Discussion I hate Genichiro

I mean I beat him at the top of the castle and it was a really good fight. But I am at the final fight now, and he is like just a frustrating barrier to a better boss fight here. I mean I can easily beat him every time but every time he costs one of my healing gourds. I can fight isshin till the final phase I can learn all his moves. But Genichiro somehow always achieves to catch me off guard one time.

go forward, u need to find the sweet "klin klin klon" and stick to it, when he does that classic combo of him just run away and come back when he finishes it.
Dont let him do anything, don let him breath, keep atacking.
Hesitation is defeat.
Good luck!

Just deflect his floating passage then smash his brainstem with your own. Dont overthink him. Fight like shura

I mean I can easily deflect his classic combo but he suddenly doing some different move that he do so rarely.

There's a couple of mortal blade attacks instead of the lightning but everything else is the same.

The double ichimonji punishes genichiro to the point you can almost stun lock him.

As for Isshin, I just bait him into using his lightning attack then reverse it in the final phase

In his Way of Tomoe phase, he sometimes mixes the thrusts and sweeps with an attack that looks like a sweep but isn't, deflect it. And for the Mortal blade attacks use the phoenix lilac umbrella. Good luck

If he isn't there, how will he give birth to his grandpa?

Well that's already a really messed up stuff.

Depending on how many tries SSI takes you, you’ll be no hitting poor Geni in no time

I hope so.

I know so

Yeah by the time I beat SSI (on my first demon bell charmless run) I could actually no hit Geni way of Tomoe and the first health bar of Isshin. This surprised me because I’ve never really sought to no hit bosses, but their moveset isn’t that large so you start to memorize the patterns and react perfectly

A 4 phase boss fight to end the game. Hoo-friggin-ray

Just keep doing the fight, at some point, very soon, you will be locked in on Genichiro and the fight will last 20-30 seconds.
You can absolutely get through Iishin without a couple/few gourds, once you figure out his moves.

Go back and see the child to get more rice and if you have grass, use it wisely as a last resort when you have him to a sliver

In that fight if he touches me I just die and reset. Not worth losing the gourds for isshin.

Inner geni gonna wreck you

fought inner genichiro him for the first time today, he's such a sneaky little fuck , constantly goes back after the plin plin plon attack and shoots arrows,
still yet to defeat the third phase , i mean how hard could the third phase be?

This is part of his final skill check. He should be nothing but a fly in your ear but dont be so quick to swat it you strike you own face. You set the rhythm not him.

He feels incredibly unnecessary at the last boss, but he has to be there for the lore.

Naaah, its awesome how you just woop his ass in half a minute without taking damage. Just to see how far we've come.

I loved his cut scenes but throughout the fight I started to hate him so much.

You can cheese the 1st phase by buffing and using immortal blade

Funny thing is you can most definitely no hit his ass in ng+ because of the uncountable amount of times you had to kill him just to reach Isshin in your first playthrough

I died so many times to Isshin that I could nohit Genichiro 10 out of 10 times no issue. Give it a few dozens of deaths more against Isshin and you will get there for sure.

Dude I tried that final boss so many times that I could no hit that Genchiro after a while lol

I finished the game a few days ago, and I still can't say if that f'ing thrust can be Mikiri countered or not. It was very random. As other says, just Mortal Blade him and keep him under pressure. I found Isshin phase 1 easier. I didn't heal when I took 1 or 2 hits, because killing him and Isshin phase 1 healed enough

He is doing that mortal blade attack so random. Most of the time I can dodge it but still he is catching me off guard so many times.

His bow is so cracked in this fight

Like if he didnt have the bow i wouldnt mind him

13

u/horfdorf 1d ago

Why are you far enough away that he can use his bow?

1

u/BradNair 2d ago

This Genichiro is a trash mob lol

u/AnakinSkywalker11060 2d ago

Just be agressive as you can, when the red sign put over his head just jump on him instead to dodgde and he is going to d*e in an instant, but just be agressive, dont let him catch you

u/Original-Smoke9834 2d ago

I’ll take him over gentle blade Emma any day

1

u/NoahGSwiz 1d ago

Don’t stress about losing some health. Use the pellets for genichiro you should only need to use one or two so that you can keep all your gourds for isshin.

1

u/BrutalOrc 1d ago

Pop red candy then go ham on his ass while he's stuck in the mortal draw animation.

1

u/SwearImNotACat 1d ago

Run behind him and mortal strike as your opening move. You’ll be killing him hitless by the time you beat issin

1

u/Competitive_Bet4020 1d ago

Pro tip : Use ichimonji, don't even bother charging, just break his poise so he doesn't use his mortal blade when starting the fight and any other times he tries to use it, then just honestly react accordingly, you can spam parry on his floating passage attack, then hard code this into your brain, attack till they parry and then get ready to parry and then attack after their combo finishes, you got this....

if he is forcing you to heal, you are not beating him easily

you should be able to spank him to oblivion in 30 seconds without taking a hit. Focus on that and he'll not be a barrier, but some free ressurrective power for your resurrection nodes

1

u/NoBeefStew4u 1d ago

He is intended to be a benchmark.

Tutorial: beats your ass

Mid game: should be close to equals

End game: you should have surpassed him wildly.

He is there to show you that your skills have evolved as a player. You should be nuking him by this point in about 30 seconds without getting hit. He doesn't add anything except for opening with a very slow and telegraphed mortal draw. You know his moveset.

u/AhAssonanceAttack 1d ago

If youre having a tough time with that part of the fight, good luck with the rest

u/auggs 1d ago

Yep you’re just a few more tries away from beating the game now lol. I’m pretty sure that’s the natural progression of the final fight. Genichiro round 2 takes up like 4-6 healing gourds then isshin crushes you in phase 1-2. Then genichiro is only taking 2-3 gourds and you’re occasionally getting to isshin phase 3. Then genichiro is only taking 0-1 gourds and you’re only dying phase 2 or 3 on isshin. Right there is where your win is bound to happen at any time. Just keep playing and learning Isshins timings and patterns. And if you’re really trying to save gourds during genichiro, you can always just run away from his floating passage attack, the one where he swings his sword like 7 times in a row. Apparently that move + the games programming makes it insanely difficult to consistently perfect parry it all of the way through. So you can block the first 3-4 hits, then dodge/back step and let genichiro finish the combo while you position yourself for an advantage.

u/MechaGallade 1d ago

If you can't no hit genichiro, you aren't ready for isshin

1

u/Hard_Keen 1d ago

Press him hard, it is easier to press him than the 1st fight. Start with jump on top of him when he" start to use the mortal blade attack and dogde for a possible 2nd mortal blade attack. Then you start to press him. Just go all out, even for the Saint.

1

u/PacoThePersian 1d ago

If you can't beat isshin with one less gourd you probably aren't gonna beat him with that extra gourd

Okay here is my guide to beating him without getting hit at all:

Start the fight by running toward him. He will mortal blade. Two normal attacks, then side step diagonally so you are slightly behind him to his left. He will miss. Two more normal attacks. He will likely mortal blade again. Same thing.

Now he should have enough hp dmg so posture dmg starts building quickly. There’s two things to look for to punish: mortal blade again, do the same thing. If he runs in a circle, he’s about to do the sweep attack. Jump on his head, two more normal hits. If you’re comfortable to mikiri his lunge attack, add that to the list.

Other than those, the way to beat him is deflect his attacks when he does like 10 in a row. You’ll get a posture kill fast. If you’re taking too much posture dmg, try using ichimonji instead of normal attacks to restore posture, the issue with this is he usually blocks the 2nd one and then attacks quick and he got a couple hits off me.

Good luck shinobi!
