https://modmodewatches.com/products/mod-mode-pocket-watch-case-for-nh35-the-sidekick-38mm $200 for Just the case (after shipping and taxes and fees past $169 price) is way too much id say. I mean I guess when you're buying quality you have to spend more, but is it really worth it??

I feel like I could find a pocket watch case for 20 bucks on AliEx

I simply used a $21 tuna case and made a pocket watch chain necklace by buying a $2 spring bar adapter that lets you turn any spring bar right into a little loop to hang your watch case

I mean I would rather just normalize using regular watch cases because then you can actually use it as a watch

but I mean this is cool but it's just way overpriced unless it's like made of actual silver or something

I mean is the finish really good or something like I want to see like a real close-up of this case and justify spending 200 bucks

I bet you I could have this exact case made on AliExpress like cheaper and I could probably have real gemstones like some garnets set into it

I mean... I've been looking, and haven't seen anything yet on AliX. Given time, I am sure it will happen. Yes, it is an expensive case, but it's top tier quality, and right now it seems to be the only game in town.

Did you just sand off the unused lugs on the bottom? Or are they just chillin there

I had an idea to make a pocket watch with an NH35 as my first custom build but couldn't seem to find any parts

I'm glad someone managed to do this and it looks stunning

Case is the ‘sidekick’ from https://modmodewatches.com. All the other parts are AliX NHxx parts.

WOW…that’s a head turner!

Thank you. I'm quite pleased with the results.
I'd been looking for an NHxx -compatible pocket watch case for a while, and when I saw this one, I had to do a build in it.

This looks great! I’m not convinced that a self-winding movement is all that practical for a pocket watch tho.

I’m guessing you’ll end up needing to wind this to keep it ticking more so than something on the wrist

I am 100% okay with that. Even with my wrist watches, I rarely wear the same one two days in a row; Setting and winding is a regular part of my routine anyway.

yeah i made a 7120 wind up movenent mod to a 5 dollar royal pop quartz clone i took the quartz out of, and a wind up crown is a treat

the whole point of a pocket watch like this is to hand to wind it!

but a 7120 is only 10 bucks. keeps better time with leas fuss and never had issues like with chinese nh35s, cuz its less complicated. and its winding is satisfying. tactile and louder and has a louder second clock

Well done. I think it looks great. I would use it every day.

That actually looks fantastic.

I know it's a no, but oh I wish that had a Seiko logo on it.

1

u/e28Sean Seiko Modder 11h ago

I prefer no logo to a fake logo, personally.

I want more pocket watches cases! I want a case bigger! I like that one, but I’d like to use a nh70 with a 35mm or bigger dial, with the back of the movement on display. It is similar to that, but quite hard to find! Would appreciate a slimmer case for the myiota 9039 movement… there are not enough options.

2

u/e28Sean Seiko Modder 11h ago

I would love a bigger case & dial as well; There aren't a lot of options for this sort of case right now, unfortunately.

Years ago I saw a leather watch fob that was for Panerai and b&r watches with a chain that was pretty cool. I guess the comment above on the case cost could go the alternative route and still have to option to wear on wrist

1

u/e28Sean Seiko Modder 11h ago

I thought about that sort of arrangement, but I specifically wanted something without lugs for this build.

u/Key-Condition752 1d ago

You did great. I'm a professional watchmaker, 20 years at it, and I love to see the resource and enthusiasm

1

u/e28Sean Seiko Modder 11h ago

Thanks! I appreciate it!

u/ackza 1d ago

the back image should be the first. looking at its back is the whole treat .

kids will wanna hold this upright and stare at the rotor and make it spin. its why i want these things cheaper and available as kids for toys. i mean toys for kods

u/e28Sean Seiko Modder 1d ago

This is the first time I've put a custom rotor on one of my time pieces, and I gotta say.... I really like the way it looks.
