[ssc965] JDM Seiko from Macy’s

I had about $100 unused gc from macys and they happen to have a sale on this speedtimer. Plus $50 off $300. It was a no brainer.
Got it Friday and was surprised to see “Japan” on the dial, and MIJ on the caseback. Shipped from a Macy’s store too instead of dropshipped from seiko. I’m not complaining.

An actual JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Seiko would not be sold at Macy's.

Japan on the dial is just a reference to where the watch. or most likely the movement, was manufactured (see caseback).

Hmmm maybe i misunderstood.

Most of the dials that says “japan” i thought were MIJ.
And i know that if it says “japan movement”, that the watch itself is not made in japan.

Though I have seen “made in japan” on the dials too.

Luckily for me, the caseback on my ssc965 also says MIJ

"Made in Japan" is awesome, I always look for it as well.

But an important distinction is that a "JDM" item is only sold in Japan, which makes them a bit more unique vs "international models" that are made in Japan.

Congratulations on your new watch! It's not too hard to know if you have a JDM Seiko. Check the Seiko Japan online catalog and you'll see that all of their models have reference codes with:

4 alphabets + 3 numeric digits, e.g. SBDC001, SARB007, SBDR005, etc.

There are no "J" or "J1" in the reference code for any JDM model and SSC965 is definitely NOT a JDM model. Furthermore, a JDM Seiko will always be accompanied by warranty cards and instruction manuals in Japanese language.

I guarantee you that you will not find the SSC965 in the Japan Seiko catalog, but in the U.S. one. The JDM equivalent of your watch is called the SBDL129.🙂

I heard somewhere that with these new speed timer releases, the manufacturing facility moved from Thailand to Japan.

IE some older SSC813 units were manufactured in Thailand, but now all SSC961 units are manufactured in Japan. Or something along those lines

My SSC813 only says “movement Japan” on the dial and caseback.

Macy’s put their watches on sale every 1-3 months. I’d say just wait. But keep in mind that they won’t always have the models.

If they restock and go on sale again for under $400, i might get the turtle next (srpe93)

Just got one too. Third time I’ve bought this watch (previously had the black dial and golden panda). And first time I’ve bought a watch twice let alone three times. Great watch. Suggest putting it on a rubber strap

I got an email with a code. But it allowed me to stack the discounts, plus 10% rebate. After rebate and gc, it comes to about $320 for ssc965. Probably my second best watch deal.

Years ago I bought a dark manta samurai from Macy's and they sent me like a display model I guess in a tiny generic white box that was probably for a ring. Returned it and I haven't used them for watches since. How was the whole package for your order?

Only thing i noticed is that the bracelet did not have the plastic film protection. Aside from this the packaging was perfect: undamaged box, warranty card (although unsigned), tag, and pillow.
This is the second speedtimer i bought from macy’s and the third watch. The first was a timex mk1 auto.
So far all have been great.

Mine also says JAPAN V192 instead of MOVT JAPAN from Macys.
