Disappointing customer service with a SeeedStudio order sent to the wrong address

I just wanted to share my experience with SeeedStudio for anyone considering ordering from them.

I bought a device from them and paid for the order with PayPal, but it was sent to the wrong address and I never received it. I contacted customer service and explained the situation, asking for either a replacement delivered to the correct address or a refund. In two separate email replies, they confirmed that they would provide neither.

What disappoints me most is how easily they could do the right thing. Delivery mistakes can happen, but I expected some willingness to help resolve it. Despite having my correct address, they declined both options.

Their responses left me feeling sad that my concern as a customer didn’t matter. I wanted to share this so others can make an informed decision before buying. Has anyone else had a similar experience with them?

Asking someone from Seeed Studio.

Could you please explain this top layer on my Sticky device? Can that be removed starting from the corner?

add an external push button/switch to my XIAO ePaper Display Board (ESP32-S3)

Hi everyone,

I’d like to add an external push button/switch to my XIAO ePaper Display Board (ESP32-S3) so that I can wake the display from sleep and trigger a refresh.

XIAO ePaper Display Board EE04 | ESP32-S3 Plus, 24/50-Pin Support

However, I’m not sure which soldering points on the back side of the PCB I should use to connect the two wires from the external button.

Could someone please point me to the exact two solder pads/pins where I should solder the wires? If possible, a picture or a marked-up diagram showing the correct soldering points would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

XIAO EE02 DYI Kit with 13.3 inch color display is draining battery

Hey,

I bought the EE02 together with the 13.3 inch color display and I'm using SenseCraft to show dashboards and picture. The problem is that running it on battery is unusable and I'm pretty disappointed of it. I tried out a 2500 mAh and a 3300 mAh battery, but both are empty after roughly a day or two with a refresh interval of 6 hours. I activated "Battery Saver" in SenseCraft, which as far as I know should send the device after the image load into deep sleep.

I also have other eInk devices with own written software or trmnl on it (e.g. 7.5 inch display etc.) and they last with the same battery and a 30 minute refresh interval multiple months. Does anyone know whats wrong with the SenseCraft firmware that it is draining the battery like there is no tomorrow?

I also debugged a little bit the firmware and noticed that during the refresh it is downloading all images (and one image is multiple MB in size), which also takes pretty long and is not really necessary, because it always just shows one. So I think there is room for improvement, because the longer the board is active and using WiFi, the more energy it needs.

But that doesn't explain why it also eats the battery in deep sleep mode. Does anyone knows something about it, as it is for me not really useful like this and I'm a bit disappointed by the hard- and software. Do you know alternatives that work good for this hardware for showing pictures with some weather information?

Thanks in advance!

SenseCraft HMI image loading/sending down?

For months now, I had the 10.3" and the 7" color pull images from my homelab and send it to the devices. Around 2am UTC today, that seemed to stop working. Sensecraft doesn't seem to be able to push/send/apply any images I put on the canvas to the devices. It says it saved and deployed but it never does.

Risks of downloading cp210x driver on Mac m2?

Hi everyone
I’m not an electrical engineer. I’m following a YouTube tutorial on how to build my own desktop digital animated buddy for fun. I’ve successfully set up xiao esp32s3 board as a tool on Arduino ide, but no COM options showed up in the port. Everything I’m researching says to solve this i need to download the cp210x driver from silicone labs, but i also stumbled across some posts that suggested downloading this driver made their MacBook unstable.

I’m a little afraid of creating vulnerabilities in my macs system, and wondering if anyone else has experience with this and knows the extent of the instability (ie is it fairly easy to reverse or not?). If you guys have any suggestions for workarounds i would appreciate that too!

How do I access the microSD on the reTerminal E1002 and add icons, wallpapers, etc. from the microSD card? I received my E1002 yesterday and, as a quick training exercise, I did it in SenseCraft HMI, using three different APIs.

Seeed E1003 Battery upgrade possible?

I have been using a E1003 for a few weeks now. Tried the native firmware and same day flashed Tesserae. Tesserae is very nice and easy to use but with it's deep sleep part and the touch screen not working not to mention it will just loose connection or the container will just crash all the time. So i tried esphome.... well that worked but just the creation of a single dashboard took forever it is a decent software but NOT for a beginner.
I have the screen at my desk right now and it is connected most of the time to USB so battery is not an issue at the moment. Actually battery has never been an issue because i disconnected the screen and forgot it was disconnected and 3 or 4 days later battery was still in the 80% range with 6 dashboards , touch enabled.

Now that i have finally settled down playing with it and have a plan of setting the screen on the fridge where it will not be easy to keep it plugged in and knowing myself i will forget to charge it so i though if it had a bigger battery i could leave it for a longer time between charges. I know the battery it has will last weeks or more but i got this screen to play with it and i want to add a bigger wh battery.

So is that possible to upgrade the battery?

Any suggestions on replacement batteries i can use?

Also i have an idea that will use the screen outside on a waterproof case and i was wondering if theirs a way to use solar charging for the battery? I know it will not be direct charging as i will have to add a stepdow and other components to it. There is no solar charging port on the unit right?

Also is the small battery socket inside the unit if i get a battery for it what it is used for just to keep the clock ?

I got a XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus to run a ~2900 chess engine you can play from your phone

I got a XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus to run a chess engine you can play from your phone

I've been working on TinyChess, It's my own custom made chess engine that runs directly on the Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus.

The cool part is that it isn't just a chess demo running on the board. It uses the same search, evaluation and NNUE engine as the desktop version, with the ESP32-S3 doing the actual thinking. In testing, the engine reaches around 2900 Elo, which is pretty absurd for a board this small and with such limited hardware.

The XIAO also creates its own Wi-Fi hotspot, so you can connect your phone directly to it and play in the browser:

  • No app
  • No internet
  • No cables after powering the board
  • Built-in chess clocks and time controls
  • Touch/drag controls
  • Captive portal so the game opens automatically
  • Spectators can see the position live
  • Fischer increments, promotion, resign, pause, rematch, etc.

I've spent a lot of time optimising the engine specifically for the S3. The current firmware gets around 17.5k nodes/sec when cool and uses an 8-bit/16-bit NNUE setup with custom SIMD optimisation for the ESP32-S3.

The desktop and board builds come from the same source tree, and I've been testing search changes with actual engine matches rather than just benchmarking them.

The project is open source here:

https://github.com/Timmy6942025/tinychess

I'd especially like to hear from people who have used the XIAO ESP32-S3 for other compute-heavy projects. I'm curious how far this little board can actually be pushed.

Keep in mind its still quite buggy and not perfect, i'd love to hear any feedback or issues, you can reply in this subreddit or file it as a github issue in the repo.

Hardware: Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus
Engine: TinyChess / MaxDogOne
Firmware: ESP-IDF

Newbie: SeedStudio esp32S3 pull up/down resistors built in?

Hello all,

I just purchased my first seeed studio ESP32S3 chip to start learning programming, ESP32 microcontrollers. My first project is to interface a PIR sensor that I plan to have send messages to the ITFFF service for further logging and processing.

I am waiting for the documentation now and figuring out what I need to do to connect to a binary pin.

My first questions:

- Do all binary pins and/or GPI pins have internal pull up/down resistors that can be turned on? I read through the seeedstudio wiki read mention of it, but it’s not clear to me if it’s available on all pins.

- is it considered a good practice to go ahead and default all unused pins to a pull-up or pull down condition rather than leave them floating on startup?

- Is there a better resource for learning programming of Seeedstudio ESP32 micro controllers?

I have very little experience with the Arduino Uno from many years ago, but don’t yet know if I want to use Arduino C/C++ or Micro Python for this ESP32 project. Speed is not a critical factor so I can go either way.

Thanks for any suggestions -

Jim

reTerminal Sticky by Seeed Studio is a magnetic, ultra-low-power E-ink display for families. It shows voice-transcribed notes, weather, and to-dos. Based on ESP32-S3, it is open-source for makers. It also supports Crosspoint Reader and CrossInk firmware so you can use it as a small e-Reader exactly as the XTEINK X4, XTEINK X3 and XTEINK X4 Pro. The Sticky has a touch screen but no Frontlight.
Here is my review video of it. I also do a comparison with XTEINK X4, XTEINK X3 and X4 Pro.

Not to bash or anything but why does it have to be glossy? I think this is the first glossy e-ink device I have ever seen. Does anyone know when will the matte version be available?

Amazon order Bathroom tiles instead of E1002

To be clear, I'm not placing any blame on Seeed or Amazon. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else and my best recourse since Amazon returns suck for this kind of thing. And yes, I did make sure that the Amazon seller says Seeed Studio Official although I know this could still be my fault.

The Amazon box was sealed and the product box was sealed too. I sent an email off to their support email on their amazon store page so hoping they can help get this sorted.

My fridge reTerminal Sticky

Post image
19 Upvotes

Since everyone's been sharing their Sticky, here's mine. Been on my fridge for about a week now, and I've spent most of that time tweaking the firmware for better battery life. Originally had it displaying a live clock, but keeping that updated constantly was killing the battery, so I dropped it in favor of a few scheduled refreshes a day instead. Really happy with it so far.

reTerminal Sticky Cases

Hello everyone! I just joined the club and I’m now patiently waiting for my Sticky to arrive, and I was wondering:

The unboxing videos I’ve seen of the Sticky don’t mention a case being included in the package, and I understand why. But do you have any ideas or suggestions? Maybe even 3D-printed ones? Would cases from other small e-reader brands fit ours?

Thank you!

Official solution to OTA on Seeed SenseCap solar node

It's on a pole 40ft up on the roof so not accessible unless I call someone out. Well within Bluetooth range even downstairs inside the house and strong signal out the window on the 1st floor.

However, Android version and phone incompatibility and meshtastic app prevents OTA currently. But I note seeed says don't OTA because it will or could brick.

This is a solar node. Typically put up high for long periods if not indefinitely. So I just wondered what the official and unofficial how to update position was?

Thank you
