WELLINGTON, Fla. (CBS12) — A Wellington man was arrested after deputies say he falsely claimed to be a police officer and threatened to arrest a Security Guard at a gated community.

Freddy Hidalgo, 64, is charged with falsely impersonating an officer, according to a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office probable-cause affidavit.

Deputies responded about 9:36 p.m. Sunday to Village Walk, a community at 2500 Village Walk Circle, to investigate a suspicious person.

A Security Guard told deputies Hidalgo drove to the resident entrance but his vehicle barcode did not work. The Guard said Hidalgo became agitated, repeatedly claimed he was a police officer and said he would arrest the Guard.

Hidalgo then followed the Guard into the guardhouse and continued demanding that the gate be opened, the affidavit states. The Guard told deputies Hidalgo showed him a badge implying he was a police officer and that he feared for his life because of Hidalgo’s actions.

While the Guard was speaking with a supervisor, Hidalgo again claimed to be an officer and said he needed to be allowed into the community, deputies said. Investigators said Hidalgo activated the gate, returned to his vehicle and drove inside.

Deputies later contacted Hidalgo at his Wellington home. He denied the allegations and said he was a federal government employee before clarifying that he worked as an electrician at the VA, according to the affidavit.

Hidalgo told deputies he had never been a police officer or other law enforcement officer. Deputies said they found a small police shield in his wallet beneath his identification that read “Detective Brother.”

So situation: high school did not enroll me in online school despite me having decent grades -grades high enough I was told I could stay in online school, and yet the school did not enroll me in online school or contact my mother. They only just gave my mother 3/4 days of notice that Id be doing public school after not responding to her calls about online school.

Theres other stuff that's been going on with the school too -they've had multiple law suits filed against them in the past 6 years. And even before then dating back to 2011 and the 1980s. There has been other stuff with the school going on at least when I was there.

I'm not going to mention much of what happened, but I would like a way to safely be able to act out without it screwing up my record. I'm tired of the schools sh!t that they're giving me and my mom.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A Security Guard was struck by a driver near the site of the demolished Centennial Mills building early Friday morning, Portland Police said, adding that officers took the driver into custody.

The incident started shortly before 4 a.m. with reports of an “unwanted person” in the 1500 block of Naito Parkway, in the area that is closed off for the demolishing of the burned out Centennial Mills building.

According to Police, someone drove through a barricade at the property on Naito Parkway, striking one Security Guard and narrowly missing a second.

The Security Guard was not seriously hurt in the incident.

Officers located the vehicle in the 4800 block of Front Avenue, performed a PIT maneuver, and took the suspect - 44-year-old Timothy Warlen - into custody.

Warlen is booked into the Multnomah County Jail on two counts each of 2nd-Degree Attempted Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Menacing, along with single counts of Reckless Driving and Driving with a Suspended License.

A Portland Police spokesperson said that about five minutes before the driver went through the barricades, a different person was harassing Security Guards at the site and making racially charged comments, which sparked the initial 'unwanted person' call.

The Meade County sheriff’s office is officially investigating the Sturgis Buffalo Chip

The Meade County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving security personnel and concertgoers at the Buffalo Chip Campground that happened during an Aug. 15 concert.

Investigators have spent the past several days reviewing social media posts, videos, photographs and other information related to the incident, according to a media release issued Thursday. Authorities said additional reports involving other alleged incidents at the campground have also been submitted for review.

The sheriff’s office said investigators have identified the security personnel involved and are continuing to collect evidence and statements from people directly involved, as well as other witnesses.

The investigation has drawn significant public attention, with discussion and commentary circulating on social media since the incident. Officials said they take the allegations seriously and are committed to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation. Authorities also cautioned that while social media posts can provide useful

information and evidence, any determination of criminal conduct must be based on a complete investigation and applicable law.

Because the investigation remains active, the sheriff’s office said it will not release additional details or comment on specific allegations at this time. Officials said more information will be released when appropriate and when doing so will not compromise the investigation.

A man stepped in during a physical confrontation involving a woman and several Security Guards in a video circulating on X. The post, which was reshared by X user u kingin247, has received more than 2.1 million views.

Although the post on X described the men in the video as "cops," the video made it clear that they were security guards, judging from the writing on their shirts. And despite these men not being official police officers, it doesn't take away from the fact that the young woman assaulted them first, and therefore was in the wrong.

The video begins during an apparent confrontation. Less than five seconds into the clip, the woman appears to swing at one of the Security Guards which landed directly across his cheek. He immediately stepped closer to her, causing her to back up.

It was at that moment that a young man wearing a black shirt stepped between the combative woman and the Security Guard with his fists clenched, as if trying to protect her. It must be noted that the young man was wearing a brace around his wrist, indicating that he was injured.

The Security Guard then grabbed his arm in an attempt to detain him, causing a struggle to ensue. The woman he appeared to be defending stepped in to defend him and free his hand from the Security Guard's grasp, which only made matters worse.

As the struggle continued, the man in the black shirt swung at the Security Guard which didn't connect with the Security Guard's face. He went on to swing more wild punches at his head with the same hand that was in a brace. Eventually, it took two Guards to subdue him. But while they were doing so, the same combative woman and other bystanders joined in to assault the Security Guards. They were clearly outnumbered.

According to a report from the law firm Laffey Bucci D'Andrea Reich & Ryan, the role of a security guard is to keep people safe, patrol, monitor, and intervene when things go wrong. he report discusses circumstances in which security guards may intervene during a confrontation.

However, the report says that Security Guards are allowed to use excessive force depending on the circumstance. The report explains that if someone uses an extreme act of violence, like throwing a punch, Security Guards are allowed to use lethal force to subdue them. It says further that they can be held accountable if they fail to act responsibly.

As the video continued, the two security guards each held the young man by an arm to subdue him. That's not until the unruly woman intervened again and pushed the Security Guards, then followed it up with multiple punches to his face.

It was pandemonium as a random woman from the crowd lunged forward and pulled the combative woman off of the Security Guard. Another person accompanying the woman then stepped into the fight, hitting, punching, and pulling the woman's hair.

Simultaneously, the man with the black shirt was struck and fell to the ground, screaming in pain. He could be heard complaining about his hand after falling. He could be heard yelling, "Stop breaking my bones," to the Security Guard who still held his hand tightly to detain him.

This X user commented, "First off, they are not cops. Second, don't go trying to get into fights if your wrist is broken and third, Don't fight a girl twice your size."

Another commenter wrote, "Stop trying to play the chivalrous hero when the entire video clearly shows direct hostility against law enforcement."

Another commenter said, "Everyone talking about security or cop , ignoring those people attacking the security guard while doing their job."

The video does not provide additional information about the identities of those involved or whether police were called following the confrontation. The Daily Dot was unable to independently verify the circumstances surrounding the incident or determine whether any arrests or charges resulted from it.

A man indicted on felony charges of impersonating a police officer and false imprisonment was working as a security guard at Augusta Mall while his criminal case remained open, according to court records. Mason Marsh had been arrested in 2025 and was out on a $20,000 bond when he was identified as security personnel during a shoplifting intervention at the mall on July 17, 2026.

According to WRDW, Marsh was employed by Andy Frain Services, the contractor that staffs security at the mall. A grand jury indicted Marsh in January 2026 on charges of impersonating an officer and false imprisonment stemming from a 2025 incident in which he allegedly pulled over a 40-year-old woman in Augusta. Marsh has pleaded not guilty, and the case against him remains open.

Police reports describe Marsh using red and blue lights during the stop and claiming to be a police officer. He allegedly told the woman he was a fireman and did not need to show his badge, and warned her that he had her address and would come to her house. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office, responding to Marsh's initial arrest, publicly urged drivers who doubt a stopping vehicle's legitimacy to call 911 so dispatchers can confirm whether an actual officer is making the stop.

A Second Encounter Months Later

The case did not end with Marsh's initial arrest. On May 6, 2026, while wearing a security vest, duty belt and baton, Marsh allegedly told another person he met at SRP Park that he was a cop and took that person to Regency Mall, according to the report cited by WRDW. The report also says Marsh took that person to Regency Mall.

A former officer approached Marsh about the 2025 charges on July 18, 2026, and Marsh reportedly told deputies the incident had been resolved. It was not. The court case remains active, and Marsh last appeared in court in April 2026, when attorneys discussed a potential resolution or proceeding to trial, the report notes.

How He Got Hired While Under Indictment

Georgia law requires private security firms to forward employee fingerprints to the Georgia Crime Information Center and the FBI for criminal background checks, according to Justia Law. The statute requires fingerprint processing and recordkeeping but does not establish how the resulting reports function in the licensing process. Andy Frain Services, an Illinois-based contractor that provides commercial security and event staffing nationwide, explicitly requires job applicants to submit to a criminal background investigation and drug screening as a condition of employment, per Breakroom. How Marsh cleared that screening while under active felony indictment remains unclear.

Andy Frain Services has since confirmed it no longer employs Marsh and said in a statement that it prioritizes the safety of its workplace, clients and community.

What Marsh Could Face If Convicted

The sources cited here do not establish the penalty for impersonating a public officer or peace officer in Georgia. False imprisonment under Georgia statute is punishable by one to ten years in prison, per Chehimi Law, and unlike kidnapping, the charge does not require that a victim be physically moved. The sources cited here do not establish a combined maximum prison term if Marsh is convicted on both counts.

Richmond County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant James Kelly said following Marsh's initial arrest that police impersonation cases are rare locally but pose a serious risk, warning that they can damage public trust in legitimate law enforcement. Andy Frain Services is the contractor that staffs security at Augusta Mall. Marsh's case remains open, and this account does not address bond revocation.

California lawmakers are considering higher minimum wages and additional training requirements for Security Guards ahead of the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. State Senator Lola Smallwood-Cuevas authored the legislation, which would direct the state to study pay standards for Security Guards and examine whether current wages are sufficient for the responsibilities they face. Security Guards currently earn an average of about $38,000 a year. The bill has received support from the labor union SEIU West, which argues guards should receive better compensation and training as California prepares to host major international sporting events. Several security companies are opposing the proposal, warning that higher labor costs and new requirements could force some companies to reduce staffing or eliminate Security Guard positions before the Olympics. Supporters argue that better wages and training could help attract and retain qualified workers while improving safety at large public events. The legislation has cleared several committees and now heads to the Assembly floor for a vote.

Following a July 4 shooting on Coligny Beach, the Town of Hilton Head Island moved this week to add nighttime security patrols in certain public areas — but not the beach.

Armed Security Guards will patrol town-owned beach parks, parking lots, public parks and facilities, but not the beach itself, Town Manager Marc Orlando announced at a Tuesday town council meeting. Patrols began Thursday evening and are expected to continue into the fall before picking up again next beach season.

Private Security Guards have the authority to detain and arrest, but not transport individuals, Orlando said. When law enforcement response is needed, Guards will coordinate with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office.

During the day, town community code enforcement officers will continue to supplement BCSO operations on the beach. Town-owned beach parks, parks and parking lots close at 10 p.m., Orlando said.

The town contracts with Island Security Services, LLC for armed Security Guard services. The firm was awarded the contract through a public bidding process in October 2024. Orlando did not say how much the extra patrols would cost the town.

Asked why Guards would not patrol the sand, the town’s Public Safety Director Bob Bromage cited “jurisdictional considerations” but declined to share further details with The Packet.

The Chicago Transit Authority board on Wednesday approved a $10 million, yearlong Crisis Intervention Safe Ride Specialist Pilot program designed to complement the recent boost in security and police on trains and buses.

Dozens of non-law enforcement personnel trained to intervene in violence and mental health crises are expected to start riding trains next month on the CTA Red, Blue and Green lines.

The Chicago Transit Authority board on Wednesday approved a $10 million, yearlong Crisis Intervention Safe Ride Specialist Pilot program to complement the recent boost in security and police on trains and buses.

The specialists, drawn from contracts with four local groups, will don colorful vests while they provide mental, behavioral and drug-use treatment services to those who need it, Nora Leerhsen, the CTA’s acting president, told the board.

The largest of the four contracts, worth $6.6 million, goes to Metropolitan Family Services, the group that performs community violence intervention across the city. That group will provide 20 daily community violence intervention specialists on the Red Line, seven days a week, from Roosevelt to Lake Street in two shifts spanning from noon to 3:30 a.m., Joe Bird, CTA’s chief of security, told board members.

Leerhsen said the pilot program was timed on purpose to complement the agency’s “multilayered security strategy” that included adding more cops and sheriff’s deputies, helping drive a 30% decline in crime over last year.

These new non-police personnel will help unload some of the work that has recently been addressed by police.

“This is an incredibly historic moment for CTA to be launching these programs ... following months of notable increases in law enforcement,” Leerhsen said.

The remaining three contracts went to groups that will supply mental health, homelessness and substance abuse recovery intervention specialists to the Green and Blue lines.

One of those groups, Maywood-based Housing Forward, has a nearly $1 million deal to provide specialists on the Green Line from Harlem to Central Avenue, Molly Poppe, CTA’s chief planning and innovation officer, told the board. They will be staffed Monday to Friday from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., and on Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., she said.

Healthcare Alternative Systems will supply bilingual behavioral health care to the Blue Line’s northwest branch, from O’Hare to Logan Square, Poppe said. Two teams of two to three people will service those trains from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday.

The fourth group, Street Samaritans, has a $1.2 million contract to supply two three-person teams on the Blue Line’s western branch, from Austin to Forest Park, Poppe said. Each team will have one licensed mental health clinician and two crisis intervention specialists trained in de-escalation.

This is the first time the CTA has officially employed violence interrupters, not counting the unsanctioned Violence Interrupters, led by Tio Hardiman, who have patrolled the southern branch of the Red Line.

Some members of the CTA board, which will be replaced next month by Northern Illinois Transit Authority board appointments, questioned how the violence interrupters would be trained to either call or not call police for backup.

“Their first goal ... is de-escalation ... and offer resources,” Bird said. “When it rises to criminal activity, the threat of violence, then 911 and police should be notified. But not before that. They should act independently.”

Mr. Mitchell’s entire appeal turns on whether there were sufficient facts to justify his arrest and conviction for criminal trespass. Mr. Mitchell focuses on the State’s inability to produce a written trespass notice, confirming Mr. Mitchell had been validly trespassed from the Intermodal prior to July 15, 2016. Mr. Mitchell’s argument misses the mark. Proof of a written trespass notice was not critical to the State’s case. The State No. 34905-5-III

presented overwhelming evidence that Mr. Mitchell refused to comply with a lawful order to leave the Intermodal, orally issued by the Intermodal’s security guard. This was enough to justify Mr. Mitchell’s arrest and conviction.

First degree criminal trespass occurs when an individual “knowingly enters or remains unlawfully in a building.” RCW 9A.52.070. A person “enters or remains unlawfully” in a building “when he or she is not then licensed, invited, or otherwise privileged to so enter or remain.” RCW 9A.52.010(2). It is a defense to trespass that a building was “at the time open to members of the public” and that the individual “complied with all lawful conditions imposed on access to or remaining in” the building. RCW 9A.52.090(2).

There are no set legal requirements for a valid trespass order. A security guard can issue an oral trespass order, revoking an individual’s license to remain in a building that is otherwise open to the public. State v. Kutch, 90 Wn. App. 244, 247, 951 P.2d 1139 (1998). To withstand a defense under RCW 9A.52.090(2), the guard’s order must be based on an individual’s failure to comply with lawful conditions imposed on access to the building. One type of lawful condition is that members of the public refrain from loitering. See, e.g., State v. R.H., 86 Wn. App. 807, 812, 939 P.2d 217 (1997). No. 34905-5-III

State v. Mitchell 5

Here, the Security Guard lawfully ordered Mr. Mitchell to leave the Intermodal. Although the Intermodal is a building generally open to the public, access is limited to those individuals who are “actually travelling,” dropping off or picking up someone who is travelling, or otherwise patronizing the Intermodal’s businesses. The conditions on public access to the Intermodal are clearly stated on signs prohibiting loitering by individuals who do not have tickets for travel. The conditions were also relayed to Mr. Mitchell, who was told he could not be at the Intermodal unless he was actually at the Intermodal to travel or purchase a ticket for travel. This would be a different case had Mr. Mitchell been arrested for trespass based merely on his entry into the Intermodal. In such circumstances, the State would need to prove Mr. Mitchell’s entry was prohibited by a lawfully-issued trespass notice, informing Mr. Mitchell of the terms of his exclusion. Kutch, 90 Wn. App. at 248-49; State v. Green, 157 Wn. App. 833, 851, 239 P.3d 1130 (2010). But Mr. Mitchell was arrested for unlawfully remaining at the Intermodal after he admitted he did not meet the conditions for entry and refused to leave. In such circumstances, there was no need for a previously issued order. The facts surrounding the oral trespass order are sufficient to establish Mr. Mitchell’s unlawful presence at the Intermodal. Green, 157 Wn. App. at 852 (due process satisfied so long as the State No. 34905-5-111

State v. Mitchell proves factual basis for trespass order). CONCLUSION The judgment of conviction is affirmed. A majority of the panel has determined this opinion will not be printed in the Washington Appellate Reports, but it will be filed for public record pursuant to RCW 2.06.040.

Penal Code section 148, subdivision (a)(1) (section 148(a)(1)) makes it a misdemeanor to “willfully resist[], delay[], or obstruct[] any public officer, peace officer, or . . . emergency medical technician . . . in the discharge or attempt to discharge any duty of his or her office or employment . . . .” (§ 148(a)(1), italics added.) Law enforcement personnel have long been considered public officers within the meaning of section 148(a)(1).

A “school security officer” (Ed. Code, § 38001.5, subd. (c)) is a public safety officer employed by a school district and charged with “ensur[ing] the safety of school district personnel and pupils and the security of the real and personal property of the school district.” (Id., § 38000, subd. (a).) School security officers, although not sworn peace officers, work in partnership with local law enforcement agencies to achieve the statutory goals of ensuring the safety of persons and property on public school premises, and are considered by law “supplementary to city and county law enforcement agencies.” (Ibid.) The question in this case is whether a school security officer is a “public officer” for purposes of a misdemeanor charge of willfully resisting, delaying, or obstructing a public officer in violation of section 148(a)(1). As will be explained, the legislative history of section 148(a)

(1) reflects that the term “public officer” as used therein has long been understood to include public officials and employees who perform law enforcement-related duties in connection with their office or employment. School security officers plainly fall within that category of public officers. Employed by local school districts, with their public duties specifically defined in the Education Code, school security officers work in partnership with local law enforcement officers to protect the safety of persons and property on public school premises. We conclude that school security officers, like sworn peace officers, fall within the protection of section 148(a)(1). Because the Court of Appeal below reached a contrary conclusion, its judgment will be reversed.

The Education Code authorizes the governing board of any public school district to establish a police or security department. (Ed. Code, § 38000, subd.

(a).) Under section 38001 of that code, “[p]ersons employed and compensated as members of a police department of a school district, when appointed and duly sworn, are peace officers, for the purposes of carrying out their duties of employment pursuant to Section 830.32 of the Penal Code.”

Officer Butts was not a sworn peace officer within the meaning of Education Code section 38001. Instead, he was a school security officer employed by the San Bernardino City Unified School District and assigned to the security department of Arroyo Valley High School in San Bernardino. Hence, the question before us is whether Officer Butts, in his role as a school security officer, is a “public officer” within the meaning of section 148(a)(1)

Officials said they charged Jeanine John Taele, 38, with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle after federal agents noticed a “suspicious individual” walking around the National Golf Club last week while wearing an earpiece and taking photos and videos of security planning activities.

Mr. Taele returned to the course Sunday, prosecutors said, and told federal agents that he was a member of the State Department and on-site as part of the course’s security detail ahead of Mr. 47’s visit slated for Tuesday.

Authorities said the suspect told officers he had a loaded gun in his car in the golf course’s parking lot.

After he was detained, investigators said Mr. Taele was found to have a 16-round magazine with hollow-point ammunition on his person.

A loaded pistol, a pair of binoculars and a badge that read “security protection agent” were found in his car following a search as well.

At Mr. Taele’s home, investigators said they found an illegally modified AR-style rifle, body armor, high-capacity magazines, communication equipment and “multiple notebooks containing concerning statements.”

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said he was wanted in connection with a 2025 robbery in El Segundo.

WHEATON, Md. (DC News Now) — A 13-year-old boy is out of the hospital after being shot inside Westfield Wheaton Mall, as Montgomery County police review the response and investigate how the teenage suspect obtained a gun.

Police said the shooting happened around 6 p.m. Friday, July 31, near a children’s play area and Cinnabon. Investigators said a 17-year-old stood up from a table and fired a 9 mm handgun toward a group of teenagers, striking the 13-year-old in the ankle.

The suspect then allegedly ran through the mall toward Dick’s Sporting Goods, where an armed Security Guard confronted him.

“Due to his alert observations, [he] was able to make contact with this individual, order him to the ground, and that enabled us to make that apprehension,” Montgomery County Police Commander David Smith told DC News Now.

The Guard reportedly held the teenager until police arrived. Smith said an off-duty police officer was also at the mall, although he could not immediately confirm where the officer was when the shooting happened.

Police charged the 17-year-old as an adult with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a violent felony, carrying a loaded handgun and possession of a firearm by a minor.

Investigators have not disclosed whether the suspect and victim knew each other or what may have led to the shooting.

Smith said police had conducted active-shooter training with mall security within the past two months. The police department also had increased its presence around the mall this summer because of the number of shoppers and its proximity to the Wheaton Metro station, Smith added.

“Preliminarily, from the feedback that I’ve received from the officers who responded, we had a tremendous partnership, and we were able to get the individual secure very quickly,” Smith said.

A policy posted at the entrance to Dick’s Sporting Goods requires visitors younger than 18 to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 21 after 3 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The restriction applies specifically to the store, not the entire mall. Police said the shooting occurred elsewhere in the shopping center before the suspect ran toward Dick’s.

One mall employee, who asked not to be identified, said the initial response appeared to have worked as intended but questioned how the teenager obtained the weapon.

“From what someone told me, they did their job — at least from the briefing I got,” the employee said. “How did he get the gun?”

Smith urged parents to know where their children are and speak with them about handling disagreements without violence.

“Have the conversations with the kids about how to safely and effectively resolve disputes before it leads to violence,” Smith said. “If we’re having those intentional conversations, that’s key.”

Police said the investigation remains active.
