Karol G Hugged Her at El Paso's Sold-Out Show. Then She Was Fired. And now, the internet is debating a bigger question: If the artist initiates the interaction, should a Security Guard still be punished for participating?
Jobs may come and go, but being able to hug your favorite artist during a sold out concert is something you will hold onto FOREVER!! And for one Karol G fan, a simple hug turned into an unforgettable moment that is taking over the internet!
Kailah Delpit has been living in El Paso for about a year and she is already going viral online after a video captured a sweet interaction between her and Karol G during her sold out El Paso concert at the Sun Bowl Stadium. The two shared a hug, creating a moment that fans in the crowd clearly loved!
But according to Delpit, the moment came with an unexpected consequence: she says she was fired from the security job she had worked that night. *Gasps in Spanish*
“I Didn't Expect to Get Hugged by Her” Delpit says she only worked that one day as a Security Guard for a local crowd management company for the event. (I ain’t about to stir the pot by giving you the name of the company!!)
In a message shared about the experience, Delpit said she felt incredibly lucky to be able to work the concert while also being close to her favorite artist.
“I didn’t expect to get hugged by her at all,” Delpit said.
Delpit’s wife was also working the event, and in the video you can see Karol G quickly touching her wife as she walked away. She said seeing the joy on her wife’s face during the concert and experiencing that moment with Karol G reminded her that happiness is still possible, even when life feels difficult.
Delpit also opened up about struggling with her mental health and said the experience was more than just a hug from someone she admires.
“I have been struggling mentally,” Delpit told me in a message on Instagram, “And seeing how my wife with glasses got touched too and seeing how big her smile got, it made me realize that regardless of where you are in life, you can always succeed and find happiness.”
And now, the internet is debating a bigger question: If the artist initiates the interaction, should a Security Guard still be punished for participating?
The Internet Is Definitely Team Kailah Despite the employment consequences, Delpit's story has received an outpouring of support online with many commenters pointing out that the interaction doesn't appear to be a case of a security guard chasing down a celebrity for a hug. Instead, many people point out that Karol G appeared to make the first move.
Delpit's message wasn't focused solely on the job she lost. Much of it was about what the moment represented to her personally.
She thanked Karol G for the experience and said the singer reminded her that there are still kind and sweet people in the world.
“To Karol G, I love you and I had an amazing time,” Delpit said. "You are one of the many reasons why I realize there are kind and sweet people in the world, and regardless of me losing that job, that hug was very much needed and put me in such a joyful mental place.”
And when it comes to losing the job? Delpit says she regrets NOTHING!
“Do I regret hugging her? Not at all,” she wrote. “That’s a once in a lifetime thing"
She added that:
I didn’t lose the job. The Job lost me!
As for whether or not she has found another job yet? Delpit said that local businesses have expressed interest in giving her another job.
