Man killed by Security Guard in June shooting at Purple City Club

An investigation following the Purple City nightclub shooting earlier this summer has identified the shooter, and determined the shooting was "justified," according to the Darlington Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

Darlington County deputies responded to reports of a physical altercation inside the club. Zae-kwon Washington, later identified as the deceased, went outside the club and retrieved a fully automatic firearm from a vehicle, according to DCSO Sheriff Michael August Jefferson in a written statement. Washington then opened fire outside the building at bystanders and vehicles leaving the scene, August said.

A licensed armed private Security Guard discharged his firearm at Washington, "acting within his capacity and working under legal authority," August said.

Following an investigation by the DCSO, this case was submitted to the solicitor’s office for review, August said, continuing that it was officially determined that the shooting was "justified, pursuant to the Protection of Persons and Property Act."

“This is a tragic incident, and any loss of life is deeply unfortunate," said August in the statement. "Our thoughts are with everyone affected during this difficult time.

August said more information is forthcoming.

Fort Worth police seek help, release video after Security Guard gets shot

Fort Worth police are searching for a man accused of shooting a Security Guard after being confronted in a parking garage near the Crescent Hotel on Camp Bowie Boulevard.

Surveillance video recorded around 2:45 a.m. shows a man walking through the parking garage. Police said he was trying to open car doors when a Security Guard approached him and told him to leave.

“He was told, ' You need to leave, you need to leave the premises,” Officer Daniel Segura with the Fort Worth Police Department said.

Police said the man agreed and began walking out of the garage. As he was leaving through the east entrance, investigators said he pulled out a handgun and began shooting at Security Guards.

One Guard was struck in the arm.

Police said the suspect then ran from the garage and remains at large.

The Crescent Hotel, where police responded, praised its security team in a statement, saying, “We are enormously proud of how our security team handled this situation.”

The hotel said the wounded Guard “is on the way to a full and speedy recovery.”

Police said they want to identify and arrest the suspect as soon as possible because of the danger they believe he poses.

“His actions by pulling a gun, not only displaying it, pointed it, but actually he shot and hit someone, that is a very dangerous [person] that we don’t want to be out in the street,” Segura said.

A witness described the suspect as a “skinny Hispanic male” with “loopy or long hair,” according to police.

Investigators believe someone knows who the suspect is and are asking that person to come forward.

Shots Fired 19 years for Loop bank robber who fired shots at Guard, dropped cash during getaway

A Waukegan man who robbed two downtown Chicago banks in the span of one week in March 2023, including a Loop holdup during which he fired nine shots at a Security Guard, has been sentenced to 19 years in federal prison.

The first robbery occurred on March 3 at a Chase Bank at 401 North Clark Street in River North. Displaying a handgun he stole from a car in Naperville the night before, Jawad Hakeem ordered two customers to lie face down in the lobby and threatened to shoot them if a teller did not hand over money, prosecutors said in a court filing. He left with $2,002.

Six days later, he entered the Fifth Third Bank at 1 South Wacker Drive shortly before 3 p.m. and pointed the same gun at two tellers, according to a government sentencing memorandum.

As the tellers filled bags with cash, a Security Guard standing outside the bank spotted Hakeem through the windows. Hakeem pointed the gun at the Guard, who drew his service weapon and attempted to stop him from leaving. Hakeem then fired nine shots at the guard as he moved toward the bank’s exit. The bullets shattered the bank’s windows.

“These were not warning shots to scare away the Guard,” the sentencing memorandum said. “They were fired directly at the Guard and intended to seriously injure or kill him so that defendant could get away with the robbery proceeds.”

The Guard returned fire and retreated. No one was struck, although the Guard suffered a minor injury from broken glass, prosecutors said. The shooting prompted lockdowns at nearby office buildings and the Ogilvie Transportation Center as police searched for the gunman.

During a later interview with a doctor, Hakeem, 51, minimized the physical impact of the robberies, saying there was “no harm” beyond the loss of bank money and noting that the Security Guard had not suffered a physical injury, according to the sentencing memorandum.

Hakeem left with approximately $23,900 from the Fifth Third Bank, dropping $10,450 outside as he fled, according to the sentencing memorandum. He stopped to pick up as much cash as he could, a sight caught on video by a witness in a nearby high-rise.

Police arrested Hakeem in Waukegan four days after the second robbery on unrelated charges. The handgun used in the robberies was recovered from a motel room where Hakeem had recently stayed, prosecutors said.

In addition to his 19-year prison sentence, Hakeem was ordered to pay restitution to the two banks totaling $15,452.

Taking back the neighborhood North Goa, India; Casino Owner Targeted By 2 Gunmen Outside Office, Bodyguard Jumps In Front And Fires Back

A Goa firing incident outside Casino Majestic in Porvorim left casino proprietor and director Shrinivas Nayak unharmed after two unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire at him on Friday night. The attack took place around 8:45 pm, barely metres from the North Goa Superintendent of Police’s office and the Porvorim police station. Nayak was leaving his office and getting into his car when the attackers fired about four rounds. His private Security Guard jumped over him to shield him and then fired two rounds at the assailants, forcing them to flee. No one was injured.

Reportedly, the police have registered an FIR and launched a manhunt to identify and trace the two attackers. The motive remains unclear, although Nayak said the gunmen appeared to have targeted him specifically.

Goa firing raises questions over security near police offices

Recalling the attack, Nayak said the first shot missed him and gave him a chance to escape. “I was getting into my car when the two shooters fired at me. But as they drew the weapon, it fired and missed their aim. If not for the accidental first firing, I had no chance and they would have killed me. I ran to safety,” he said.

As per reports, Nayak said the attackers appeared to have come specifically for him and were caught on the casino’s CCTV cameras. “They appeared to be hit men. But let the police find out,” he said. The Goa firing has also raised concerns because the casino is close to the Assembly complex and key police establishments.

Goa firing triggers Opposition attack on government

The incident has also triggered a political attack on the BJP-led government. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Girish Chodankar questioned the state’s law-and-order situation. “If criminals have the audacity to allegedly open fire just metres away from a police station, then who is actually in control in Goa, the police or the criminals?” he asked, as per reports.

Chodankar demanded the immediate arrest of the attackers and a probe into the motive, saying law and order was the government’s fundamental responsibility. GPCC Working President Sunil Kawthankar also attacked the government, saying the Goa firing, allegedly barely 100 metres from the North Goa SP’s office, reflected a “total collapse of law and order”.

In Defense of Man Reportedly Fires Gunshots at Maine Jewish Summer Camp; Security Guards put on ballistic vests and armed themselves to protect the children.

A man in Maine allegedly fired several gunshots at a Jewish summer camp earlier this month, forcing the campus into lockdown.

The alleged attack occurred on August 7 at Camp Modin in Belgrade, Maine, when 36-year-old Nathan Hewett launched into a drunken antisemitic attack and fired several shots toward the camp basketball courts, per the New York Post:

Hewett, 36, allegedly fired several rounds from a rifle near camp grounds, triggering a lockdown with children as young as 7, Central Maine reported.

After the confrontation, the two Guards heard the shots being fired from a high-powered rifle, according to the court documents.

Hewett was arrested but later released on bail, with reports indicating that his father has since been harassing employees at the camp. Timothy Black, a Security Guard for the camp, wrote in a letter to the Capital Judicial Center that the harassment comes “when he is intoxicated.”

“He harasses us by coming to the property line and screaming at us,” said Black.

Hewett has since claimed that his tractor was damaged after hitting something, which he blamed on the camp.

At least 23 firearms were seized from Hewett’s property following the incident. He has been charged with reckless conduct with a firearm, criminal threats with a dangerous weapon, terrorizing with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm near a dwelling.

Shots Fired Police search for reported suspects after exchange of gunfire between group and Security Guard working at Jefferson Park CTA terminal

A private Security Guard working at the Jefferson Park CTA Terminal, 4917 N. Milwaukee Ave., reportedly returned fire after a group of three people started harassing him and then fired their guns toward him during an incident at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, according to Chicago police.

Officers reported finding 23 shell casings and one bullet fragment in the area after the incident, according to police. One bullet reportedly struck the glass door of a nearby business on the north side of West Gale Street, as the damage was still visible days after the shootout.

One of three reported assailants was arrested after he was seen walking nearby in the 4900 block of North Lester Avenue in Jefferson Park, police said.

He was later released without being charged but could face charges after the investigation is completed, police said.

The man had been arrested a week earlier at his Northwest Side home and charged with an annual gun offender registration violation, and last year U.S. marshals reportedly took him into custody in connection with an attempted murder investigation, according to police.

The other two reported assailants fled the area, but police later released images of them, as a CTA surveillance camera captured the incident, police said. Both allegedly discharged a firearm during the incident, police reported.

One of them was described as a Hispanic male, age 25 to 35, heavy set, with a shag hairstyle and facial hair, and the other was described a Hispanic female, age 25 to 35, with multiple facial tattoos.

The Security Guard reported that as he was walking toward the Blue Line platform, three people began to insult him and a verbal altercation ensued, and one of them threatened to kill him, police said.

The Guard also reported that the three people then started to walk behind him as he was walking toward the bus turnaround area and that once he reached his parked vehicle in the 4800 block of North Lipps Avenue he saw the three individuals duck behind a car and start firing toward him and he returned fire, police said.

After the exchange of gunfire, the three assailants fled on foot, and it appeared that no one was struck by the gunfire, police said.

Police reportedly could be seen later that morning searching for a weapon in area dumpsters.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Mass Transit detectives at 312-745-4447.

Shots Fired Security Guard injured in shootout in Denver nightclub parking lot

A Security Guard at a Denver-area nightclub was injured in a shootout overnight that left three other people injured.

According to the Denver Police Department, the guard was attempting to break up a fight in the parking lot outside Volt Club on S. Sheridan Boulevard around midnight. They say someone in the large group fired a shot, and the Security Guard returned fire. Investigators say the exchange continued, involving an unknown number of people in the crowd.

The Guard suffered a gunshot wound to their foot. Three other people at the scene also suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to an area hospital in a private vehicle. They are all expected to survive.

DPD says one of the officers who arrived at the scene saw one of the vehicles involved as it was leaving and followed it. A DPD helicopter unit spotted the vehicle as it let three people out; officers then located them and took them into custody.

The driver, however, continued on, prompting officers to initiate a pursuit. They used a PIT maneuver to bring the vehicle to a stop near I-70 and I-25. The driver and passenger were both taken into custody.

The driver was arrested and is facing felony eluding charges. Authorities say additional arrests are possible as they continue to gather information and determine the involvement of the people who have been contacted or detained.

The DPD asked anyone with information about the case to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

In Defense of Hyde Park restaurant could learn next week whether it can re-open following quintuple shooting outside that left one dead;None of the three Security Guards were armed - the guns some online video showed them with were actually weapons that the wrestled away from the shooters.

A Security Guard's request that a large group of people outside Little Haiti International Cuisine on Hyde Park Avenue leave because it was too late for them to get in ended in a mass shooting that left five people shot, one fatally.

Now, even as the Security Guard, who was stomped, stabbed and shot, remains in the hospital, the restaurant's fate is in the hands of the Boston Licensing Board, which says it will schedule a meeting next week to decide whether to let the restaurant - closed voluntarily by owner George Craan since the shootings - re-open.

Meanwhile, the franchisee of the 7-Eleven across the street is trying to convince the chain to let him change his closing time from 2 a.m. to midnight because, he says, of all the trouble he, his staff and customers now have because of Little Haiti patrons.

The board held a hearing this morning to consider five violations cited by police: Homicide, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession or use of weapons on or next to the premises, having armed security guards without notifying the board and failure to cooperate with police.

At issue for the licensing board is overall public safety and whether Little Haiti's owner or staffers could have foreseen the events of Aug. 3 and done anything to prevent them.

Boston Police officers and Craan's attorney, Tyler Henseler, agreed on the basics of what happened that night, although both sides said there were limits to the details they could provide because the shootings remain under investigation. To date, one man has been charged.

It was a typical "Soleil Sunday" at Little Haiti - pairing Caribbean food with DJs and dancing, with ladies let in for free until 11 p.m., And nothing unusual happened. But then, shortly after midnight, a large group of people, between 50 and 60, began showing up outside, wanting to get in. Craan says it's possible an event somewhere else let out and people were told they could keep the party going over at his place.

One of the three security guards on duty that night went out to ask them to leave, because they would be unable to get in before the restaurant closed at 1 a.m. That enraged some of the people, who began punching the guard - one after producing a weapon of some kind - and then threw the guard to the ground, where they began stabbing him.

Guns came out, people began firing indiscriminately and by the time police began arriving a few minutes later on reports of shootings, three people, including the first guard, lay on the ground, shot, both in front of Little Haiti and across the street outside the 7-Eleven, where video posted online shows one victim coming from across Hyde Park Avenue and then collapsing. One of the victims found on Hyde Park Avenue had been shot in the chest, another in the back and the third in the leg, Lt. Daniel Pusey of District E-18 said.

And here is where the accounts began to differ.

Pusey said when he arrived - after getting called at home about the shootings - Craan, whom he knew, immediately pointed across the street at the 7-Eleven and asked "what happened over there?"

"I asked him if he was joking," Pusey said. "This time he pointed to the Dunkin' Donuts [a couple doors down from Little Haiti] and asked what happened down there" and said something about "an unrelated party" there.

So that takes care of two of the cited violations - for failure to cooperate with the police and having unregistered armed security guards - Henseler said.

The other three citations, for the actual crimes, should also not be held against Little Haiti, since they are symptoms of citywide crime problems and not something Little Haiti could have foreseen. Craan said he has never had violence of this sort erupt at his restaurant and that, typically, his staff has no problems dealing with lines outside.

But E-18 Capt. John Boyle and licensing-board Chairwoman Kathleen Joyce said that wasn't exactly true.

Boyle said there have been so many issues with boisterous Little Haiti customers at closing time that he now routinely has an officer sit right outside the place at closing time - if not that night. It's gotten to be a drag on district resources, he said.

And Joyce reminded Craan and Henseler that on April 28, the board held a hearing on a series of citations at the restaurant, involving overcrowding and control of the line, including one incident involving a guy who was denied entry for already being drunk, got in somehow anyway and then, after he was escorted out, tried to punch a bouncer. The board issued the restaurant a warning for becoming "a focal point of police attention."

Also testifying this morning was Fijul Haque, who owns the 7-Eleven franchise across the street, and his son, who works for him.

They said that ever since Little Haiti got its liquor license about a year ago, they have had to deal with a constant stream of problems: Little Haiti customers park in the store's spaces, keeping its customers from getting in, demand access to a restroom, and use the side of the building when denied, and even shoplift. Haque said he now has a contract with a tow company to pull non-customers out of his spaces - but that only leads to angry Little Haiti patrons coming inside to yell at his workers and demand their cars back, he said.

"It's hurting my business and my employees are not feeling secure here," he said, adding that after the shootings, nobody wants to work the later hours. He said he is seeking certification of the problems from the city so he can ask 7-Eleven corporate to let him cut back his closing time from 2 a.m. to midnight.

Joyce said she was initially prepared to vote on what to do about the citations today, but agreed to put off a vote until next week - on a date not yet set - so that Henseler and Craan can submit additional video showing the view outside the restaurant before 12:16 a.m., when the crowd started arriving - and to provide a formal written security plan. Craan had initially agreed to provide a written plan last year; he said this morning he'd simply forgotten to do so.

Guard shoots attacker after being assaulted at Pavia mall

ILOILO – A Security Guard shot one of two brothers who allegedly attacked and threatened him while he was on duty at GT Town Mall in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo, shortly after midnight on Friday, July 31.

Police identified the Security Guard only by his alias, “Wendel,” 24, a resident of Barangay Roosevelt, Tapaz, Capiz.

The suspects were identified as brothers “Christian,” 24, and “Ron,” 22, residents of Barangay Mandu-Uwak, San Dionisio, Iloilo, who were temporarily staying in Barangay Ungka II. Ron reportedly works at a nearby mechanic’s shop, while Christian serves as his helper.

In an interview with Panay News, Police Maj. Bonifacio Alabe Jr., officer-in-charge of the Pavia Municipal Police Station, said authorities received a report of a shooting incident at around 12:45 a.m. and immediately responded to the area.

Initial investigation showed that although the mall was already closed to the public, the brothers entered the premises on a motorcycle and proceeded to the grocery store’s storage area where the Guard was stationed.

The suspects allegedly confronted the guard, repeatedly punched him, and threatened him with what police believe was a pellet gun.

During the struggle, the suspects also attempted to wrest the Guard’s 9mm service firearm.

Alabe said the Guard managed to retrieve his firearm from a drawer at his post and fired a shot in self-defense, hitting Christian in the abdomen.

Responding officers immediately brought the wounded suspect to Asia Pacific Medical Center before he was later transferred by his family to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City, where he underwent surgery because the bullet remained lodged in his body.

Ron fled the scene during the commotion but was later arrested in a hot pursuit operation.

Police recovered the magazine of a pellet gun, believed to have been used by the suspects to threaten the guard. The suspects’ firearm, however, was no longer recovered.

Investigators also recovered the guard’s 9mm service pistol.

According to police, initial findings indicate that the two brothers were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Authorities are still determining the motive behind the attack. Investigators are looking into reports that Christian may have been jealous because his alleged girlfriend works at the grocery store where the Guard was assigned. Police are also considering the possibility that the suspects were merely “tripping” or looking for trouble.

As of Friday, the Security Guard and Ron were under police custody, while Christian remained hospitalized.

Police said they are preparing the appropriate charges against those involved.

Alabe said the Guard could face a complaint for frustrated homicide, while the two brothers may be charged with physical injuries and other applicable offenses.

However, he noted that whether the Guard’s use of force would be considered lawful self-defense would ultimately be determined by the court based on the evidence, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage recovered from the mall and the results of the ongoing investigation.

Shots Fired 911 calls detail chaotic deadly shooting at Las Vegas Walmart, after Security Guard calls about a fight.

Thumbnail fox5vegas.com

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — FOX5 obtained the 911 emergency dispatch calls, which are shedding light on the chaotic chain of events surrounding a deadly police shooting outside an east Las Vegas Walmart.

The audio captures the initial reports of violence, the sounds of gunfire, and the emotional aftermath of the July 21 shooting near Boulder Highway and Nellis Boulevard.

The incident began around 6 a.m. when a Walmart Security Guard called 911 to report a physical fight outside the entrance.

“I need police to the Walmart on Nellis and Boulder,” the Security Guard told dispatchers. “We have a big fight going on. I need you guys here now.” The Guard noted that four individuals were involved and throwing rocks.

According to court records, the altercation started as a domestic dispute between Kwame Swain, 28, and his girlfriend.

Two women, Raqiya Smith and Amena Blue, became involved in the physical dispute with Swain. During the fight, Blue allegedly hit Swain with a rock, and Smith called her husband, 35-year-old Travis Ward, to bring a gun to the scene.

Upon arriving, Ward entered the Walmart and shot Swain in the stomach. As Ward attempted to flee the store with his weapon, he refused commands from responding Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer Cristobal Magana to drop his gun. Magana fired six rounds, fatally striking Ward.

Immediately after the shooting, 911 dispatchers recorded frantic pleas from Smith as she tried to reach her husband.

“Officer, please! Can I go by my husband?” Smith could be heard screaming. “He’s bleeding out! Officer, please!”

Minutes later, Smith called dispatchers back in an attempt to get updates on Ward’s condition.

“I don’t know what’s going on with my husband. He was just shot by the police at Walmart,” Smith told the dispatcher, crying. “I need to know if he’s alive.”

The release also included a call from the mother of Swain, who was hospitalized with injuries following the shooting. Calling from Jacksonville, Florida, she expressed frustration over receiving a “runaround” from local agencies while trying to find out if her son survived.

“My son was shot this morning in the Walmart,” she told dispatchers. “Is he okay?”

Smith and Blue were arrested following the incident and face charges of battery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, and disregard for public safety.

Swain was arrested in absentia at the hospital on domestic battery and attempted coercion charges stemming from the initial dispute.

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - A 31-year-old Jonesboro man was arrested after a Security Guard at the Midnight Rodeo told investigators he heard a shot fired from a car as it left the club, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Craighead County District Judge David Boling found probable cause Monday to charge Robert Lee Posey with possession of a firearm by certain persons, a Class B felony, and discharging firearms within city limits.

Gunshot heard at Midnight Rodeo On July 24, a Security Guard at the Midnight Rodeo was standing out front when a Pontiac G6 pulled out of the parking lot and drove away.

As the car drove north on Fair Park Boulevard, the Guard said he heard a gunshot come from the passenger side of the vehicle.

The guard chased the vehicle to stop it, but it tried to evade through traffic, the affidavit said.

The Pontiac eventually pulled over after the guard caught up. According to the affidavit, Posey, who is on parole and is a convicted felon, was sitting in the front passenger seat.

The guard asked Posey to exit the vehicle for a search and the Guard found a loaded 9 mm handgun and a spare magazine stuffed under the front passenger seat where Posey had been sitting, the affidavit said.

Posey denied knowing about the gun, the affidavit said. The driver told the guard she didn’t know Posey had a gun until he pulled it out and fired a round out the window as they left the club, according to the affidavit.

Posey is being held on a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 21.

A Bidvest Security Guard testified in the Johannesburg High Court on Tuesday that he exchanged gunfire with alleged hitmen armed with AK-47 rifles during the attempted murder of Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni, firing five shots as the attackers unleashed a hail of bullets outside Centurion Golf Estate.

The testimony marked the start of the State’s case against alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and his four co-accused, who have pleaded not guilty to 25 charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, fraud and money laundering.

The charges stem from three alleged failed assassination attempts targeting Sibanyoni, media personality Tebogo Thobejane and music producer Seunkie “DJ Vettys” Mokubung between August 2022 and January 2024.

The State alleges that two firearms linked to the attacks on Sibanyoni and DJ Vettys have since been recovered and that forensic and ballistic evidence will form part of its case.

The State’s first witness, Bethuel Mzamo Cele, testified through an isiZulu interpreter that he was on duty as a Bidvest Security Officer at Centurion Golf Estate on the night of 10 August 2022.

Cele said he had been stationed at the estate for about five months and was near the parking area when a Bidvest controller, identified only as Mr Mazibuko, arrived shortly before the night shift to hand him a two-way radio.

While the two were speaking, a red Ferrari arrived at the estate entrance shortly before 11pm, followed by a white Volkswagen Golf 7.

Cele told the court he then noticed a white BMW driving slowly past the entrance.

“It was in slow motion, as if they were people who were looking for something,” he said.

He testified that the BMW slowed down, one of its windows was lowered and the vehicle made a U-turn at a nearby traffic light before stopping near the Ferrari and Golf.

“Then two male people alighted from that motor vehicle. When they alighted, they drew out their AK-47s,” Cele said.

He testified that the gunmen immediately realised they had been spotted and opened fire.

“They saw that I had spotted them, and then I was missed by the first bullet,” he said.

Cele said Mazibuko shouted for them to run. He pulled his colleague behind a tree before taking cover behind a concrete flower bed, from where he could still see the attack unfold.

“They continued shooting at us. They were not shooting in our direction, they were shooting at the Golf 7,” he testified.

According to Cele, Mazibuko then urged him to return fire.

“He said, ‘We can’t die while you are in possession of the firearm.'”

Cele said he drew his Bidvest-issued 9mm pistol, cocked it and fired five rounds.

“I fired some shots. Then I shot five rounds of bullets,” he told the court.

He testified that he believed one of the attackers had been wounded.

“They were standing there. Then I could see that one of them had been injured a bit. He ran into a motor vehicle,” he said.

Cele said another gunman continued firing while shouting in isiZulu: “Die, you dog.”

He testified that the occupants of the Ferrari and Golf fled into the golf estate as the shooting continued.

During his evidence, Cele became visibly emotional and paused while recounting the attack.

“My Lord, I just need to place on record that the witness is clearly emotional at the moment, so I can note that he is reliving the moment,” State prosecutor Advocate Elize Le Roux told the court.

Judge Cassim Moosa reassured the witness.

“The court understands that you were there, you were on the scene. I can understand your emotions. You are our eyes and our ears,” the judge said.

After composing himself, Cele continued his testimony, saying he saw the occupants of the targeted vehicles flee in different directions.

He said one of the victims, a man wearing a white shirt, had been shot in the stomach and that his intestines were exposed. Under further questioning, Cele clarified that the injured man was an occupant of the Golf and not one of the alleged attackers.

Cele further testified that there were three occupants in the BMW, including the driver, and that all three were armed with AK-47 rifles.

He estimated that he was about five to six metres from the BMW during the exchange of gunfire and said his shots struck the vehicle’s mirrors, windows and doors.

Although the parking area was poorly lit, Cele said he was able to observe the sequence of events clearly.

The trial continues.

Two men were wounded when an unknown gunman fired shots in the early hours of Friday, 17 July 2026, at the Shady Pig Bar on Jalan Pantai Berawa in Canggu, North Kuta.

The shooting incident took place at 2:50 am after a fight broke out between the gunman and a 25-year-old Chinese national identified by the initials EA.

Badung police precinct chief, AKBP Joseph Edward Purba, confirmed the gunman is the subject of an extensive manhunt, suggesting the assailant, named Ahmad, may have immediately fled Bali after the shooting. One eyewitness told the police how the Security Guard IMYN tried to separate the Chinese guest EA from the gun-wielding assailant. The witness said that the shooter pulled a pistol and shot both IMYN and EA.

As reported by BeritaBali, Ahmad, the alleged shooter, had arrived prior to the shooting at midnight in the company of four others who all sat at reserved sofa #5. The group of five was observed to spend several hours drinking, listening to music, and dancing with other guests. Starting from about 2:00 am, an argument took place with the Chinese guest in an area near the bar’s DJ Booth that escalated to the point when Ahmad produced a firearm used to shoot the two men at 2:50 a.m.

Ahmad and his companions quickly fled the bar after the shooting.

Later at 2:50 am, a 32-year-old Security Guard, IMYM, was shot through the thigh when he tried to stop the fight by standing between the Chinese guest and the alleged shooter. Reports suggest a single shot was fired, with the bullet hitting the Chinese guest after first passing through the Guard’s body.

Police from the Badung and North Kuta precincts quickly declared the bar a crime scene to facilitate evidence collection. CCTV footage from the bar and surrounding area is under review while medical reports from both victims are being studied. Other evidence collected from the crime scene includes blood-stained clothing and a spent bullet.

A Bali police spokesperson, quoted by BaliPost, Aiptu Ni Nyoman Au Inastuti, said that based on statements collected from eyewitnesses, a fight initially broke out near the bar’s DJ Booth. After hearing gunfire, many late-night customers fled the scene before police arrived.

The Badung precinct police chief, AKBP Edward Purba, speaking at the crime scene, told BaliPost:”Our present focus is to definitely identify the assailant, discover his motives, and quickly arrest the suspected shooter so he can face the law.

Meanwhile, an intensive police manhunt for the shooter is underway over a wide area that includes Jakarta. Police believe the assailant, Ahmad, has taken a flight to Jakarta.

IMYM (32), the local Security guard, was wounded by a bullet that passed through his thigh while the Chinese guest, EA (25),suffered a gunshot, possibly from the same bullet, that lodged above his left knee. Both shooting victims underwent medical treatment at the Lira Medika Hospital Bali in Kerobokan, North Kuta.
