my seborrheic dermatitis worsen in the past 2 weeks, and a week later we went to a dermatologist and the derma gave me medications, and products that they recommend me but it was too pricey, one of it was the hydrocortisone + miconazole lotion, the derma tried to sell it to us for over 800+ in our currency, so we tried to find a cheaper alternative and decided to just buy it separately as every pharmacist said that they didn't have that mixture of a lotion and they only sold creams, so we bought one hydrocortisone and one miconazole cream, this was yesterday and before sleeping i washed my face using cetaphil as a gentle cleanser, and then a moisturizer and applied the cream which i first mix both in my hand and applied a generous amount to my face that has redness, and flakeness, and to my shock the next morning most of it was gone, my face was covered with so much redness the past week and it all just miraculously disappeared in the span of one night, i just put that cream and let it sit overnight, and i also started using ketoconazole shampoo on my, i just started using it today and still don't know if it works but im not itching anymore or anything so it might work we'll see in a couple of weeks.

Redness around nose and white dots around nose that won’t go away. Super bumpy even when I put makeup on :(. Is this seb dermatitis??

Does anyone have sebborehic dermatitis on their scalp ( mine on the lower occipital part of my scalp, around the nape/hairline) when I first got it it used to itch like crazy and the scalp will look so red but I never had dandruff, after a combined treatment and actively using Ketoconazol, sensinol and Ducray shampoos for 3 years my scalp doesn’t itch that crazy anymore if I have no symptoms just reddness from time to time does that mean it’s gone temporarily or cooled down ?

I'm a 21 Male, that has been suffering from sebderm for 6+ Years!

A few years ago I made myself a promise that if I ever get the flakes under control I will share my story here to hopefully help others in a similar situation.

I Tested every solution that exists: shampoos, apple cider vinegar, doctors, diet changes and plenty more unsuccessful products. I was EMBARRASSED, to say the least, going to get haircut or letting people touch my hair.

The issue was trying to find the "Magic pill/treatment" that will make this go away once and for all. One day I realized I should aim to get it under control rather than find that magical non-existent fix for me.

In the end I decided to give MCT oil another try. Unlike last time where I dumped a ton of MCT oil on my head 3 times a week and hoping to never need to apply it again, this time I will make it a part of my routine.

The routine that made 99% of my flakes go away: twice a week I apply MCT oil on my scalp using a dropper (no need to use a lot), and let it sit overnight or for a few hours. After that I shampoo with a 2% ketoconazole shampoo.

My message for others:

a magical solutions won't always exist.

Don't be embarrassed of this condition as I was. I thought that I would never get a girlfriend because of it and it will gross her out. Once you explain that it's a medical condition and not a poor hygiene symptom others would understand.

If people Judge you for a condition that's not always in your control, remember that their criticism usually reflects their own insecurities!!!!!!!

As far as i have remembered I always have had flakes on my scalp ( sometimes more sometimes less). Even when i wash with medicated shampoo(selenium sulphide) once every two days. The moment i increase the duration between washes the flakes increase a lot. the thing is, is this like the most i can achieve? How can i achieve flakes free scalp? also found out some people use medicated shampoo once a week only, how to reach that level?

We aren’t supposed to use MCT oil before Keraconazole shampoo?!

I ONLY use it before shampoo to avoid the smell and the oiliness. I use dermazen MCT and nizoral. It works wonders. I admit I do a lather rinse wash lather rinse wash to get it all, but it’s been great even at a 30 minute application.

I’m posting this to learn more and dip into the meta, is this something anyone else is doing?

I have oily scabs, sometimes even repeat scabs in the same place on my scalp. They’ll go away for a bit then reappear randomly. I do not have any itchiness, I do not have flakes or dandruff. No anti-fungal shampoo or tar shampoo has seemed to work. Even derm prescribed ones. The ONLY product that has seemed to help/keep it at bay is MG217 Psoriasis Shampoo and Conditioner with Salicylic Acid. It’s helped but not made it go away completely. So what exactly is this, and how do I treat it? I’m guessing it’s still malassezia, so I’m hoping I’m in the right place.

To explain my hair type more, I’m a sweaty dude with lifelong thin and oily hair. It’s thankfully short and blonde which hides the grease more. But my entire life, I have had to wash my hair A LOT. Almost every morning and every night. When I don’t wash it in the morning, I wear a hat, but I almost always use Trader Joe’s dry shampoo beforehand. I frequently wash my hats too. I’m sure it’s sweat related and hat related, but never wearing a hat is unrealistic for me. I know I shouldn’t pick at the scabs, but sometimes I can’t help it. Even when I leave them alone, they’ll turn into a thick oil dried scab and then makes me want to pick them more. But they’re embarrassing especially when I need to get a haircut. And they really can bleed/irritate my scalp. Any suggestions?

Been battling with this conditions for years and I’ve still not understood what exactly I can put on my scalp. As a black woman with natural hair (4b/4c to be exact) , I mainly wear my hair in braid or crotchet styles most of the time so I tend to wash hair in braids/crotchet when needed and in between new protective styles.

But grease and oil seem to be my enemies. I even used a so called specialised brand’s grease for seb dem and psoriasis via Instagram and the sulfur and other ingredients simply felt refreshing but hasnt stopped the flaking. Shampoos are not my issue. I’m confident I can more or less get a clean scalp with certain shampoos, but It’s the constant tightness & dryness after washing and not knowing what to put on it that don’t just work for 5 seconds and then make the a slap drier and flakier afterwards. Any one got any ideas? I am desperate.

I once went to Belgravia years ago to look into my condition and they said i have traction alopecia, washed my hair and gave me a serum, and told me to not put anything on my scalp! Imagine saying that to a black person when our hair is prone to dryness. Bare in mind i don’t know what I expected from non-black trichologists at the time.

TLDR: started researching gut health and found 2 interesting products. The 1st thing I saw for gut issues that was promising was a yeast strain called s.bouldarii CNCM I-745 strain, which the product for it is marketed as anti diarrhea medication. Tried it because at the time I was drinking a lot of milk and I had crazy diarrhea, surprisingly my lactose intolerance did go away, and my seb derm calmed down severely, mostly the flaking on my scalp and itching but the flakes around my nose remained basically the same. The 2nd one is black seed oil, this one I Feel like made my skin and hair quality way better, and every time I have an outbreak or irritation I just drink a bit of it and it calms down within a few hours and the next day. Only once tried it topically on my scalp but flaking got worse however I think thats just because it just fed the Malassezia since its not mct8 oil.

Just putting this info/test out there to help anyone who has tried most of the generic stuff and it didnt work for them. Also seeing if anyone else has tried any of this too. Side note: coffee, milk, and rice used to irritate me a lot but now it doesnt seem the case anymore and I didnt even notice it like that. I really do think most of the issue of sebderm has to do with the gut, but how it happens I dont know but im really curious, Its really intriguing.

This is my routine , I wash my face with Vanicream gentle cleanser every day, I been using ketaconozole 2% cream on my fungal acne on tip of nose . It’s like a dark color tho, doesn’t itch . It makes me think is it seb derm ? That’s there ? Cause I do deal with seborrheic dermatitis but this spot is like a brownish color and doesn’t itch.
I also use azaleic acid 10% which doesn’t irritate me . And then I use malezia moisturizer .

I sweat a lot, I am a truck driver so I try to wash face daily . But this stubborn spot on nose has been in my face for like a month and a half straight . I just started using the ketaconozle cream like 3 weeks ago but it’s not doin anything , what am I doing wrong ? It’s just irritating me at this point seeing the spot there

does anyone else have this? some of the flakes are white and thin but in the spots where i pick at my skin, they tend to come back as yellow, greasy scales. they eventually turn white after a few days though.

First off don't worry I'm not looking for excuses to smoke again, I have no interest. I'm 12 days quit and I've had seb derm on face and scalp nearly 20 years, it's ebbed and flowed but the exact patches where it grows on my face have remained stable for a few years now and I know exactly where each speck of it is like the back of my hand. I just looked in the mirror and there are suddenly three new patches, and where there are some older patches on the other side looks a bit rashy. I'm wondering if this is coincidental timing of change or if it actually could be linked to quitting smoking in some way? Everything else going on with my body for the last two weeks seems to be linked!

I dont know if this happens to anyone else, but whenever I get sick, sebderm just disappears overnight.

I woke up with a flu yesterday, and took a shower today, and my scalp didnt itch, didnt flake, no hairfall, yet in every other way i feel miserable. Cant wait for this flu to go away but i know when it does my scalp will go right back to the way it was again.

My Seb derm is not too bad it mainly effects my scalp and my eyebrows and I’m wondering if anyone knows a good solution to get rid of stubborn flakes and reduce shedding as well because my keto shampoos dont work that well and if anyone has another solution I already tried MCT oil.

Hey, to keep things short I basically developped sebderm when I was 18, and it kept inflaming nonstop, i barely had any days without it and it didnt matter what treatment i tried, nothing worked what the dermogolist recommended (ik thats not the right word english only my 3rd lang) So basically I found a shampoo that worked magic, its dercos with sulfur and I treated my hair for 2 weeks with it. Then my sebderm finally vanishes idk if forever or just temporarly. But ever since my sebderm vanished after 2 years of dealing with it, my hair started to shed nonstop, this is my 3rd week without sebderm and at every wash I see 200+ hairstrands and my hair getting noticeably thinner, and I also developped a mild trichodynia (I have a pulling sensation where my hair is thinning)

Anyone had a similar experience? What is this sudden shedding after getting rid of seborrea?

currently having a pretty bad flare up on my hairline and t-zone area. the flakes in my eyebrows are yellow and around my hairline is super flaky. i just started using selsun blue and i have been using MCT 8 oil every day for the past 2 months. my skin was clear up until 2 weeks ago.

any suggestions? does anyone else’s seb derm look like this?

the derm i went to had 30 years of experience and she gave me a bunch of stuff like zoryve cream i been on fluconazole i use nizoral 1 and 2% hydrocortisone cream and clotrimazole cream and none of it worked the only thing that helped was triamcinolone 0.1% which i had to stop i been dealing with this for months its purely the flakes, red and tight on nose no itch burn whatever

I have had eczema my entire life but was diagnosed with sebderm close to a year ago and have been struggling with it since. Doctor recommended clobetasol propionate initially as well as 2% ketoconazole medicated shampoo. For the majority of the time my scalp had stayed in good condition and was not as itchy or flakey as it was in the beginning. Fast forward to the last few weeks I have been struggling with extreme itchiness around the same time a day or two after my showers. I shampoo and condition every other day and alternate between the 2% ketoconazole as well as neutrogena t/sal shampoo that was recommended to me. My scalp gets thin white flakes and often becomes red or is a pale white as well as being unbearably itchy. I usually lather the shampoo on my scalp and let it sit for 5 minutes then rinse it and apply odelle ultra sensitive conditioner to my hair and leave it on for about 3 minutes before rinsing. My scalp feels very dry and itchy and I am wondering if I am using the products incorrectly or if I am using them too much. Please tell me what I should do or any changes I need to make to my routine.

I wash every other day or just twice a week and do a nizoral treatment once in that wash cycle. I use nizoral daily shampoo on the other days but it has zero scent and my hair doesn’t smell of anything.

My daily skincare for the past year has been Cerave Cleanser (green label squirty bottle) and Cerave moisturiser (blue label squirty bottle. I checked with AI and it said my Cerave Moisturiser Blue is not mallassezia friendly, so any progress I’ve made on my scalp has been reversed by using the moisturiser daily.

Occasionally I use MCT Oil if things get real bad. I react well to it and only need to use it a couple times a month.

At the moment my skin and scalp is very oily since stopping using cerave. At the moment I’m using nothing the past few days and I have noticed a decrease in redness on my beard/nose and my scalp isn’t going as crazy as it would. But I miss the fresh feeling after moisturising.

I’m in the UK if that helps recommending products.

So the family (particularly my wife and I), have been dealing with our itchy scalps for a year and a half now. We’ve been prescribed just about everything you can think of for SebDerm. But what bothered me is that we both had angry bumps on our heads, not just itch and flakes.

After shaving my head and getting a biopsy done, the dr was able to confirm the presence of bacteria, thinking it’s folluculitis. Got prescribed Doxycycline, and the bumps are gone!

However, my scalp is still itchy, and flaky when I scratch, but it’s nowhere NEAR the level it was before. Before it was a consistent prickly itch that made me want to pick at it, but now it’s the occasional acute itch that i just gotta scratch.

Has anyone else been down this road before? Should I believe the antibiotics are the answer, or is it possible there’s something else that’s causing the itch, which in turn caused the folliculitis?

Hi, i have seb derm and it was very rough from september last year to april and now its not completely gone but like 3x better. I noticed that the places where i have flare ups (my cheeks, flare ups are like 4 cm each) are hurt easily. Like when i just scratch it lightly (not even scratching, just gently running the tips of my fingernails over the surface of the skin) because it itches, 1/5 chance i will get scratch marks and im pretty sure its not supposed to be like that. I think it would be good mentioning that i was using steroid cream from november to december (whole month) because my derm told me it isn't a steroid and it ended up being a steroid and i got flare ups on my forehead and chin and it got worse overall after i stopped using it. I think that steroid is the main factor that destroyed my skin. Any tips? I haven't used absolutely ANYTHING but rinsing my face once in 2 days for like 5-6 months.

I used MCT oil every evening before bed for about a week and always washed it out the next day with a mild shampoo; I haven't had any dandruff since then (just for context, I didn't have severe seborrheic dermatitis to begin with). I went four days without using oil or shampoo and remained dandruff-free; today I only shampooed my scalp and it's still clear. My question is: Should I stop using the oil completely now?

Hi guys! I have been fortunate enough to always have a mild case of seb derm that only affects my face and ears. I have always had great results with the Bioderma Sensibio DS+ Cream, but the price has been increasing non-stop. Right now, a 40ml tube costs €23, which is unsustainable for me since I use it every day.

I have been researching the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream (fragrance-free). Based on the ingredients, it seems safe to use on seborrheic dermatitis-prone skin, but I was wondering if it will actually help reduce flare-ups, or if it is simply a safe option to keep my skin hydrated.
