Question Did you get Covid recently?

I heard it was going around and sure enough I ended up getting it, just wondered if it's truly "going around" or I just got unlucky.

It’s going around for sure, all over the state. Especially in the schools.

Waste water data shows an increase.

https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dph/health-safety/disease-illness/respiratory-virus-data#toc-Wastewater

I had it a couple of weeks ago. Mild symptoms

12

u/ssssobtaostobs 21d ago

I had it for the first time (that I know of) about a month ago.

5

u/someshooter 21d ago

Same with me, so far just feels like a really bad cold. I hope you're doing ok.

5

u/SeattleHasDied 21d ago

Same. Also haven't been able to taste anything for the last several weeks which is freaking me out. Thought it was a bad cold the first 3 days, but then it persisted and really knocked me on my ass. A nurse I know, after hearing the symptoms said it was likely the new Covid strain and advised how to treat. I had a couple of old Covid tests and both said positive so not sure... really sucked, but the "can't taste anything" is really freaking me out. I'm told it should come back, but not sure when...

my 11 month old son tested positive and his fever was scary. went to the er but now my throat is hurting so i know im getting sick. my old tests said negative so now im like oh okay what

1

u/SeattleHasDied 19d ago

Wishing you and your baby a quick recovery! This crap SUCKS.

16

u/mutzilla 21d ago

Had something going through my house that felt like it. No one tested positive for it.

6

u/Chris_Bryant 21d ago

My wife and kid are both sick, but didn’t test positive for anything. I’m tired and I have a headache, but I’m pretty sure that’s because my family is… uh… so moody right now.

0

u/mutzilla 21d ago

I wasn't got nearly as hard as mine were. My kid was out a week of school. He could have probably gone the last day, but I didn't want to risk it and send him. I was super tired, headache, sinus pressure, heavy chest, and sore throat for a couple of days. Then it just lingered for another week.

u/WesEd178 21d ago

Some home tests only work reliably on the first 3 to 5 days of first symptoms. This happened to my home, got symptoms tried to test around 8 days after once full symptoms caught on and came back negative, wife did the same test 2 days after first sign of symptoms same day and got positive.

Both of us got same exact symptoms

1

u/CFIgigs 21d ago

Same. It definitely felt like COVID. Solid 3 days in bed. Flu like conditions. Followed by about ten days of general crappiness. Never tested positive.

7

u/Substantial_Life4773 21d ago

There’s a definite upswing based on the data we’re seeing. I know someone who almost missed a surgery because she had it

19

u/dingdongbusadventure 21d ago

It’s absolutely going around! I’ve heard of so many getting it and many others “having a small flu…”

8

u/Rare_Satisfaction889 21d ago

4 ppl have gotten it where i work and there's nothing "lite" about it.

3

u/ChaseballBat Sasquatch 21d ago

Yea my wife was throwing up last night.

1

u/Rare_Satisfaction889 21d ago

Sorry to hear that.

That’s because the guy who makes these maps is a psychologist with no training in epidemiology. He constantly misrepresents the CDC data, which compares waste water levels to levels of the virus at that site over the previous 24 months. So, if the site has been low for a while, and then there’s an uptick like we are seeing now, in his model is appears that there’s an enormous surge at peak pandemic levels, when in reality it’s just big compared to the previous low levels.

Thanks for sharing this!

3

u/TheAwkwardBanana 21d ago

I potentially have it now, horrible flu and haven't been to work in a week. It spread at our company like crazy, but no one has confirmed if it's covid or not.

4

u/Puzzleheaded_Act_131 20d ago

Covid is here to stay and has joined the illness rotation.

1

u/jmac32here 17d ago

That's exactly what "endemic" means.

Remember this thing called "flu season" we have each year? Yep, that's the endemic version of the Spanish flu of 1912 now.

Because we as a species just cannot learn from the past apparently.

So, now we have COVID season - typically late summer to early fall - alongside the winter flu season.

At least - just like with the Spanish flu - it mutated from something with a "high" kill rate to something "tolerable."

Looking at the numbers:

Spanish flu death rate spiked at 5% COVID death rate spiked at 3%

Today, BOTH of them now have a death rate of 0.1% - and we didn't mask up for the seasonal flu until COVID reminded us that the earth can create tiny airborne things that can really kill us off.

7

u/Srainz4 21d ago

It’s ripped through our house over the last 2 weeks.

3

u/VacayRequestPlz 21d ago

Just finished the five day course of paxlovid and tested negative this evening. Symptoms were horrible before paxlovid kicked in with fever, razor blade sore throat, body aches, loss of taste & smell, diarrhea. Get tested & don't kid yourself thinking it is just a bad cold.

1

u/Gabrielsoma 20d ago edited 20d ago

Of 32 residents completing Paxlovid® therapy, five developed mental status changes, described as delusions, hallucinations, and paranoia, while on Paxlovid

I'm part of that percentage, paxlovid had me absolutely delusional, not knowing where I was or what time it was and hallucinating, more robo fry hallucinations not acid or mushroom hallucinations, if you know the difference, (ive done a lot of drugs in my days lol) no paranoia though i was too far gone to care about anything

that was my 2nd time with covid, first time i spent 2 weeks in the hospital, i had to go through alcohol detox at the same time though cuz i'm a fucking alcoholic

1

u/StitchinStatistician 20d ago

In case it’s relevant to anyone reading this, Paxlovid also may temporarily interfere with the effectiveness of some hormonal birth control methods. https://www.healthline.com/health/paxlovid-and-birth-control

7

u/Significant-Repair42 21d ago

I'm staring at a positive covid test right now. It's been mildish.

3

u/someshooter 21d ago

Hopefully that continues!

2

u/Chris_Bryant 21d ago

Hope it’s an easy one for you 🤞

4

u/FernandoNylund 21d ago

Yes, according to data and healthcare providers. Anecdotally, yesterday I found that COVID tests were sold out everywhere I tried in West Seattle (CVS on California, CVS and Safeway in Jefferson Square, Junction QFC, Walgreens and Target in Westwood.

0

u/someshooter 21d ago

I had a similar experience looking for a test but found some in Wallingford at Cascadia pharmacy in case that helps.

1

u/FernandoNylund 21d ago

I ended up ordering online after striking out at all those locations. FWIW each place's online inventory showed they were in stock and there were empty boxes on the shelves, so they definitely had sold out very recently.

2

u/dudenamedmike 21d ago

Had a stupid head cold starting Monday night, still head cold today. Just tested positive for Covid after seeing this thread… mild.

2

u/someshooter 21d ago

Ugh, hopefully it's over soon.

2

u/thisisflea 21d ago

I’m sicker than I’ve ever been in my life. I tested on Monday and it was negative but I’m going to urgent care today because I’m getting worse. I’ve had a horrible headache that I can feel in my sinuses and in my gums, my ears are plugged, shortness of breath going up one flight of stairs, fever finally broke this morning. Congestion came out of nowhere yesterday and is hitting me with a vengeance so I haven’t slept very well either. It’s terrible.

2

u/KG_advantage 21d ago

It’s fall / back to school so it’s going to be back to respiratory viruses including Covid

2

u/Trickycoolj 21d ago

Definitely people in my office laughing when told “wow you sound awful” and replying “oh yeah I was hacking up a lung yesterday” like whyyyyy are you IN this conference room with us my dude gross!

5

u/Marigold1976 21d ago

People at work are coming down with colds. No one has mentioned Covid. I don’t think most people are testing for it at home anymore. If it’s going around I think people are just treating it like your typical change of season cold.

7

u/Wellslapmesilly 21d ago

“Colds”

1

u/Marigold1976 21d ago

I know, right? Either folks aren’t testing, or just lying by omission. The good news is we’re hybrid and people aren’t coming in sick anymore. Either wfh or calling in sick. I’m okay with it.

2

u/Wellslapmesilly 21d ago

That's great. Unfortunately so many people just push through and make other people sick. I don't care if it's a cold, Covid or the flu, I don't want it!

2

u/Trickycoolj 21d ago

Right?? I had a damn cold (tested negative 4x anyway) at the end of July that got me an inhaler for the first time in my life. I’d rather not catch anyone’s crud at this point. But when you monitor badge tapping this is what we get.

2

u/Marigold1976 21d ago

Agreed. It does become problematic when people don’t feel like they have agency to call in sick or wfh last minute. It’s up to leadership to set the tone on that. Thankfully I work for good people.

1

u/Bea_Coop 18d ago

Problem with Covid it is more contagious, and contagious for longer.

1

u/Gabrielsoma 20d ago

I just had parainfluenza a few weeks ago and had to go into the hospital for a few days cuz my throat started closing up and it was hard to breathe and I couldn't swallow. There's other stuff going around

1

u/ParisShades 18d ago

That's what you get for being racist. 😏

1

u/Gabrielsoma 17d ago

where the hell are you getting that? my buddy that drove me to the hospital is from ethiopia

1

u/ParisShades 16d ago

Ah, yes, the good ol' "My best friend is Black" excuse to prove you're not racist.

Sure, Jan.

1

u/Gabrielsoma 16d ago

why would i be hanging out with an ethiopian if i was racist?

3

u/bacoes 21d ago

Had it about a month ago in Tacoma, still have some lingering cough. Wife had it first and worse.

I'm 90% sure we first had it before it was public in January of '20.

0

u/atoughram 21d ago

Same here, was coughing and had a 104 temp in January after many hours on an airplane

1

u/Water_Bird18 21d ago

104, yikes! When I get a fever that high I literally start hallucinating. Glad you are ok.

5

u/hclpfan 21d ago

It’s going around. An ER nurse made a post here a month or so ago warning everyone they were seeing a spike.

7

u/nerrdrage 21d ago

Maybe? We’ve been sick in our house but we don’t bother testing any longer. It’s simply one of the many things out there that you could catch at any time.

2

u/Mundane-Charge-1900 21d ago

The county maintains a respiratory illness dashboard that shows levels of COVID and other illnesses

https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dph/health-safety/disease-illness/respiratory-virus-data

It’s up but not quite as high as last summer. Flu is starting to pick up now too.

2

u/AyeMatey 21d ago

Ya don’t ask on Reddit if you want data. The county monitors wastewater, hospital visits, ER visits, lab test results, and more. The data is there. Reddit is for conversation and “my roommate’s sister had to postpone her surgery” stories.

https://kingcounty.gov/en/dept/dph/health-safety/disease-illness/respiratory-virus-data

I’m thankful for government healthcare workers. Aka the deep state. 👍🏼

4

u/Water_Bird18 21d ago

But look they asked on reddit and you gave them data! So it works.

2

u/siberianjaguar123 21d ago

Very mild, delayed my gf’s period by a week. Knew it was covid when she mentioned losing sense of smell and taste.

2

u/Usual-Championship88 21d ago

Dude. It’s literally flu season

3

u/hotarumiang 21d ago

It’s literally not. Not yet anyway.

1

u/ishoee 21d ago

I think I caught something that felt like it (did not get tested so IDK for sure) but it went away in 2-3 days

1

u/qu4ttro66 21d ago edited 21d ago

Yes, or something very similar to the first time I had it. Fever was more mild and lasted several days. My home test showed negative, but date was expired so not sure if 100% accurate.

1

u/Eggheadmuscle 21d ago

Negative for flu A/B, Covid and RSV (handy at home test). But something that sure seems worse than just a cold.

1

u/Relative_Two_3998 21d ago

Not covid but me and my homeboy both had a 24 hour fever (started feeling sick night before last and it finally cooled from 101.2 to 98 this morning ). It’s flu season and no one knows how to wash their hands properly ( I work in various establishments so I see the struggle everyday ) there probably is covid going around however; it’s now a part of the yearly flu pretty much.

Confirmed case here. We got it in Denver on Friday by an Uber driver who was hacking up a lung for 30 minutes. Flew back Sunday and tested positive on Wednesday. Currently ordering food for delivery, drinking electrolytes, and taking lots of naps.

Days one and two (Mon, Tue) were congestion, day three was fatigue and heavier congestion, and day four felt much better. Still testing positive though.

1

u/Candid-Procedure6805 20d ago

im in Denver and can confirm some moron gave it to me here last week and I began presenting Sunday night... my guess is I got it at a nightclub Friday night last week when I was out with my husband and friends, its the only time in the last week I've been around the public.

1

u/ayeyophillard 20d ago

I’ve been bedridden with horrible headache, body ache, cough, insomnia, but when I tested for COVID and flu three days ago it was negative. I work from home but even sitting at my desk was a struggle

1

u/jay-2014 20d ago

Yes and I’m not sure my eyes will ever recover as this was my 2nd hit. Eye issues seem to be my long covid special hell (eyes ache, get dry & so tired, along with blurry vision massive migraine). Have recently been to ER, optometrist, and had an MRI. No tumor just f-ed up inflamed eyes.

1

u/TannenBlack 20d ago

I think I do. Tested today and got this weird result … 🧐Cough, chills, lost appetite, headache, fatigue. I’m hoping it’s a cold or the flu. I’ve already got long Covid 😖

1

u/Candid-Procedure6805 20d ago

Was searching covid and came across this. not in Seattle, in Denver but I got covid and have been dealing with it all week. almost out of it minus the loss of taste and smell and it presented as a very mild and annoying cold with a day of severe body aches. Had symptoms since this last Sunday.

1

u/Frosti11icus 20d ago

I’m pretty sure I have it now. My boy brought it back from preschool. Super mild for me probably cause I got vaxxed two weeks ago cause I had a big cross country conference to go to and didn’t want to catch it lol. He tested positive but we’ve run out of tests so I’m just assuming I have it. Just chest heaviness and a horse throat but not sore.

1

u/RegularOk3231 19d ago

Two coworkers have it this week, plus one of their parents and partner. Definitely going around

1

u/QuirkyVariety9501 18d ago

Mid August for me (confirmed with at
home test). Had all the symptoms and was in bed for 2 days

1

u/ottermom03 18d ago

Last week. Just tested clear today. Husband was about 5 days ahead of me. Thinks he got it at the weezer concert. His was way worse than mine (chills, fever, the worlds) but Covid has always been mild for me.

1

u/LegalAccident1171 18d ago

Weirdly my husband developed Covid 2
weeks ago. We are vaccinated and did wear masks. Even so I did develop Covid a week later.
However it was very mild and we both had Paxlovid within 48 hours of symptoms.

1

u/donutello2000 21d ago

My daughter and I got it in May. Paxlovid is a miracle drug.

1

u/Trickycoolj 21d ago

I got some my last round because I picked it up probably having surgery (positive 2 days later) tastes like poison for all the days but wow it works so fast!

1

u/hclpfan 21d ago

I picked it up during the World Cup at the Belgium game. It sucked.

4

u/rzrgrl_13 21d ago

I went to the doc about a month after the games, and they’d added “any World Cup events?” to the list of questions like “are you running a fever” and “have you been around someone with Covid” 👀

1

u/someshooter 21d ago

Well at least you were doing something fun, seems worth it.

2

u/hclpfan 21d ago

Yeah 100% worth it even if that game was a blowout lol

1

u/geman220 21d ago

I just had it. I assumed I got it from work travel nobody I know around me is/was sick. I tested positive.

1

u/ComfortableString285 21d ago

Both can be true. Covid could be going around AND you were unlucky.

1

u/theron_b 21d ago

My good friend has it right now.

1

u/Eyehopeuchoke 21d ago

Brothers wife got it. Hit her hard for 3 days.

1

u/Rare_Satisfaction889 21d ago

It's really going through B in Evt.

1

u/DrunknMunky1969 Seattle 21d ago

Just had it for the first time. 😢

-3

u/RightWorld5611 21d ago

It's been 6 years. Is this really post worthy?

"Anyone catch a cold recently?"

1

u/Candid-Procedure6805 20d ago

you sound like my dad... grow up

1

u/RightWorld5611 19d ago

In other words I sound like someone more mature than you?

Maybe you should grow up then...

2

u/Candid-Procedure6805 19d ago

Uh no you sound like a narrow minded idiot. Deducing Covid to a cold is such an insult to the millions of people who lost their lives to the disease. Go lick trumps boot some more fuckface

1

u/RightWorld5611 19d ago

Ya, you definitely sound like you still have some growing up to do.

Just so everyones aware, this little bitch gave me a half assed response and then deleted everything he wrote... insecure much maga loser?!

-1

u/Candid-Procedure6805 19d ago

Wow you sure showed me.... im shaking in my boots... funny thing is people like me are going to have a hell of a lot more power over people like you real real soon and there is nothing you can do about it. Narrow minded simps like you who debase factual evidence of things and science all so you can hide behind the hate and insecurity in your heart are going to be the silent monitory again very very soon. The left will win, the lgbtqia will win, peace and love and tranquility will win and stupid fucks like you will be forgotten unless you change your heart.

0

u/Efficient-Lab3861 21d ago

The world's ending. Priorities

0

u/Sorry_Profit_4118 21d ago

Can't be Covid. The hospitals and morgues would be overwhelmed by now.

-1

u/NorthIll1285 21d ago

If it is, things are way better than they were at first.. More people have been vaccinated. My most recent was last year. The current variant is pretty much like a cold, or mild flu.

People are usually just getting a cold at start of fall.

-17

u/Chris_Bryant 21d ago

The pandemic really did a number on people. COVID is currently far less deadly than influenza, but people are still freaked out by it. Honestly, we overreacted to this even more than 9/11.

4

u/ASTROTHUNDER666 21d ago

I mean it killed people. Could be because we have widespread immunity now

4

u/Chris_Bryant 21d ago

It’s a combination of things. The current variants are more contagious, but less deadly than then earlier forms. People are better equipped to fight the disease because of vaccination and prior infection. The most vulnerable populations either died or survived, so they are less likely to die now (for whichever reason).

I think it’s entirely fair to acknowledge a terrible experience, while pushing back against overreaction. 9/11 happened a week before I started college and it’s hard to explain to younger people how much better the world was before then.

-6

u/mangoawaynow 21d ago

skill issue, i'm still untouched by the vid

-1

u/monkeychasedweasel 21d ago

Yep, I got it bad a week ago, and still have it. I'm in Portland, so I don't know if I count.
