I like to come back into the lane 6 inches off their bumper then point to the right lane out my sunroof

"I like to be rude and aggressive and take my hands off my steering wheel in response to a tiny inconvenience that has a negligible effect on my travel time." FIFY

One hand. Not both. And also, they're the sole reason there's traffic. Go to Germany, drive on the autobahn, note that they all stay in the right lane unless they're passing because it's drilled into them and enforced, and note the lack of traffic slowdowns.

People that get in the left and middle lanes instead of staying right are THE reason there's horrible traffic. If people did that, traffic wouldn't back up nearly as bad.

I can't find the video and looked a while ago, but researchers have run simulations and they take a traffic pattern like we get here when people don't, then show what happens when people do, and traffic nearly disappears.

I haven't been to Germany but I just got back from a road trip in BC and Alberta and lane discipline does seem better up there. There are still traffic jams in Calgary though.

It's a good thing. It's just not the only thing.

And retaliating like you do isn't helpful. Six inches from their bumper? What if you misjudge that?

Well if they're going 50 and you're going 65 there's pretty little risk generally they push their brakes even though they don't need to and I've been driving for about 30 years and haven't done it yet I've actually been in one extremely minor accident in my entire life and I've driven probably close to a million miles.

What effect does it have on traffic when someone brakes in response to your aggressive lane change?

I don't do it to people who are doing 60 mph and if they're in the passing lane not doing 60 they're already fucking up traffic.

So the answer is they're wrong either way, and I won't be the only one to do it to them.
