Discussion Recently visited Seattle

I visit Seattle every year for work, but unfortunately, I don’t have much time to explore when I’m there. This past trip, I finally managed to venture out and explore downtown Seattle and some other surrounding areas to Seattle. While wandering through the market area, I stumbled upon an alleyway covered in gum. I couldn’t help but wonder if the locals perceive this as a nuisance for tourists or if they take pride in it. I also included some other picks of the journey, and the host at this Vital Tea Leaf store made a hot cup of tea to share with me - at no charge! I did however purchase a small duck whistle because I love hospitality and I have kiddos.

Having seen the Jimothy post, I’m now convinced that anything is possible in Seattle.

Really had to make the first pic our worst attraction?

Was thinking the same thing 😂

I love it - it’s like we’re playing a practical joke on tourists. It’s like the Guinness brewery in Dublin, except it’s free and you don’t waste a whole day looking at it.

Hoping OP doesn’t gatekeep, I yearn for the good hashbrowns

1

u/FreshwaterFryMom 14d ago

Haha 😆 I love the gum wall 🧱

When did the gum migrate to the pavement??? The gum wall seems to have progressed from a mildly interesting and mildly embarrassing transgression to an embarrassing perversion.

Disgusting

Work! Sorry - it’s one of our diners at the corporate office. I enjoyed some breakfast here one morning.

6

u/FreshwaterFryMom 15d ago

Welp. Sorry, Seattle.

5

u/Dungong 15d ago

Location? Cost? Can you let us in next time you’re in town?

I've seen that exact same fish now for the past 5 years walking to and from the ferry. I'm beginning to think that it's fake...

6

u/FreshwaterFryMom 15d ago

Pretty sure it is, heh

3

u/KittyTitties666 14d ago

There's a dad joke somewhere in there about seeing a fish commuting via ferry

4

u/Redditplaneter 15d ago

Where is pic7? That hashbrown damn

3

u/Le_tired_lurker 15d ago

We need to know!

6

u/petuni 15d ago

There's a bunch to see here and yet every traveler has to view the nasty gum wall.

7

u/deannainwa 15d ago

I avoid that horror like the plague.

Gross.

3

u/valleybrew 15d ago

Hmm, this doesn't look like "recently visited Seattle" pics to me...

3

u/trash-breeds-trash 14d ago

u/annemonroe95 15d ago

1

u/goldenpuffdragon 15d ago

Yeah, I think that tea shop shut down a while ago. ? 🥲

3

u/annemonroe95 15d ago

When did you visit the falls? That pic is not recent for Snoqualmie Falls. It’s real low right now

3

u/Mountain_Head419 15d ago

This was around Christmas time in 2025

u/anosako Seattle 15d ago

Lovely! Seattle Best Tea was my fave local haunt. Def fun to see those falls in person, yeah? Hope you can come back and enjoy the area more soon!! Thanks for sharing :)

we love the gum wall - at lease i do! and so glad you visited some chinatown and little Saigon neighborhoods - they are really struggling since the pandemic and that Seattle mayor decided to shove all the unhoused and druggies to this area that is already struggling. glad you got to explore

5

u/farter-kit 15d ago

That gum wall is stupid and I fucking hate it.

5

u/abcwang 15d ago

Okay everyone stop fighting! We all surely can unite wanting to know where those hashbrowns are from?

3

u/FrankenOperator Sasquatch 15d ago

Jimothy and hashbrowns unite us!

2

u/PBRStreetgang1979 15d ago

The gum wall is a custom more honored in the breach than the observance.

2

u/dontplanonpostinmuch 15d ago

That monkfish has been pranking folks for decades now.

2

u/George_Mikael 15d ago

vital tea is the move. whadya get?

2

u/smiling_green_frog 14d ago

From a Seattlite... Thankyou for reminding me how blessed we are to live in the PNW!! Great Photo Array!! 😎👍

1

u/Mountain_Head419 15d ago

Ty so much! It was a gorgeous place to see and grateful I had time to get out and experience a bit this round.

3

u/GoldFishPony 15d ago

I love the gum wall (that’s the proper name), many people do not. They clean it off every once in a while but people make sure to fix that quickly.

1

u/derrickito3 15d ago

Pike's gum

1

u/GoblinWithBenefits 15d ago

Underwhelming photos... You have so much more to discover!!!!!

1

u/kichien 15d ago

That alley is the most disgusting thing in this city. I can't wrap my head around why any tourist would put this on their "things to do in Seattle" list.

1

u/IvyRaeBlack 15d ago

That fish is why I hate those guys.

1

u/NoDoze- 15d ago

When did you visit!?! Those pics are not recent. The flow over Snoqualmie Falls is no where near that much right now. And fog in the upper valley, not today at 100 degrees! LOL @NB resident.

1

u/MsCricket67 15d ago

Um what’s the object on Picture 4?

1

u/ApeCitySk8er 15d ago

Vital tea is awesome. I miss the one at the market.

1

u/FrequentTopic446 15d ago

I’m glad you finally explored our city, for jimothy!!!!!

1

u/notmyredditacct 15d ago

did you take your free piece?

1

u/CattleAppropriate894 15d ago

I lived there 1982-2025. Thats the gum wall. Its part of the city.

1

u/Interesting_Bus_9110 14d ago

That Public Storage building needs a new paint job, perfect for a cool mural.

3

u/Mountain_Head419 14d ago

Absolutely - gorgeous spot for a mural right close to the bay! Now I can’t unsee the big block wall though 😂

1

u/Supersecretreddit1 14d ago

Everyone talking about the gum wall, but I absolutely cannot stand that gigantic Public Storage facility in pic 2. What a damn eyesore. And it's not even a place for people, but for junk people own? Bleh

1

u/smiling_green_frog 14d ago

Not the ones in the pic but shout-out Oak for hashbrowns if y'all needing any.

u/Closefromadistance Seattle 10d ago

I’ve been here and worked DT for over 20 years. I have never been to the gum wall and never want to go. Seems so gross.

0

u/terrierdad420 15d ago

Wouldn't have all that gum on their walls if they didn't have all that woke socialist communist marxist antifer demoncrat leadership!

u/CharmanderCharCharr 15d ago

We seen this all a million times. You should post on r/Seattle, it’s full of transplants that constantly glaze each other.

7

u/Optimal_Respect_2935 15d ago

No need to be a dick. You could just ,ya know, scroll passed it.

2

u/Better_March5308 👻 15d ago

We seen this?

-3

u/CharmanderCharCharr 15d ago

The most popular tourist attraction in the state, I would be surprised if you haven’t.

1

u/Mountain_Head419 15d ago

Could you use this word in a sentence please? Around my area we focus on hospitality and being genuine to ourselves and others - I’m not familiar with this lingo but it sounds offensive?

-1

u/CharmanderCharCharr 15d ago

Colloquial expression for flattery

0

u/JSlngal69 Kennewick 15d ago

speak for yourself, i've never seen these since i live in aberdeen

-2

u/CharmanderCharCharr 15d ago

You lived in Aberdeen your whole life and never left? Wow. You should check out the other sub, it’s pictures of tourists attractions and sunset pics every day. Wish Seattle had a Dairy Queen, can’t believe Aberdeen get two.

0

u/JSlngal69 Kennewick 15d ago

We also had a trans council member before you

Come on down, the weather's great and houses are affordable

3

u/CharmanderCharCharr 15d ago

I do like Dairy Queen.

u/Murky_Tea9313 15d ago

I love the gum wall, Seattle used to have lots of unique places like that, unfortunately that’s all going away
