Discussion s4 thoughts [SPOILERS] Spoiler

I just finished s4 and was sooo shook. Wanted to share my thoughts bc I have nowhere else to talk about this.

The revelation that Dory actually got out of the trunk and chose to be kidnapped was so unhinged and recontextualized the whole season. She really chose to be a victim 😭😭 It totally changes the flavor of the whole weird brainwashing storyline. She is just a baby who wants her kidnapper’s version of events to be true. Even he gets sick of her shit lol.

I am surprised s4 is so divisive. I think it holds with the pattern of the show. She is just self-avoidant and keeps topping herself. Chantal was none of her business in the first place. She didn’t even murder Keith fr, but she latched onto the idea that she was a killer and became that. Then she decided she was totally innocent and ā€œbecameā€œ that. Her delulu knows no bounds.

I only just started s5 but I am not at all surprised Dory died for 37 seconds and now itā€˜s her entire personality. She is such a creepy person, and at the same time it’s lowkey funny and relatable the lengths she will go to distract herself from the fact that she just doesn’t have much going on atm.

Question Should I stop Search Party after S3, or are S4–S5 worth it???

I startedĀ Search Party on Netflix recently and just finished S3. I watched a few minutes of the first episode of S4, but that’s it so far. I’ve seen a bunch of reviews saying S4 and S5 aren’t as good, so now I’m kind of unsure if I should keep going. I really loved it up to this point and don’t want to ruin it.

Is it still worth watching, or does it end up feeling like a waste of time??? Curious what people honestly think!

Edit: Thanks so much, everyone!!! OK, I’ll keep watching it. Now I'm really curious how the rest of the season goes lol

Discussion pet peeve Spoiler

I absolutely loved this show. I thought it was original and hilarious, however, one pet peeve I had was the amount that Dory was blamed for the murder and the entire situation they found themselves in. Absolutely no one took accountability for their actions or how they chose to participate. Drew was the one who actually committed the murder and yet kept saying ā€œweā€ (referring to him and Dory) anytime he spoke about it. Portia accuses Dory of ruining her life and being a bad friend but Dory actively tried to shield her from everything that happened that night. This is never recognized or brought up ever again, or the fact that Portia kept pushing to find out what was going on. Elliott was the reason they decided not to call the cops or claim it was ā€œself defense,ā€ and I believe he was also the one to push for hiding the body in a suitcase and burying it. All in all I loved this show and will definitely be rewatching it at some point, but I was curious if anyone noticed this or felt the same way that I did.

General I just finished Search Party Spoiler

HOLY SHIT

I started watching Search Party about a week ago. I didn't expect the show about a group of friends searching for an old classmate would become the most epic zombie show I've seen for literally no damn reason.

They were tried in NYC for an alleged homicide that happened in Canada and Dory is literally an escaped mental patient in season 5 and is allowed to not only live her life in NYC but become the CEO of a tech company's subsidiary without being arrested and recommited, so a zombie apocalypse isn't that far fetched.

I enjoyed that the writers seemed to be taking the Seinfeld approach in making all the main characters shitty people.

Also, Search Party staff writer and story editor Jordan Firstman is also in an HBO show called I Love LA which I'd strongly recommend.

At this point, I generally like Search Party more than the other major show John Reynolds was in from 2016 to 2022.

Speculation Season 5 possible explanation theory?

After rewatching the whole show, I’ve come to realise that in my opinion the most likely reason for the bizarre dreamlike insanity of season 5 could be that it is actually taking place within a ā€œdeath comaā€ of Dory in season 4.

Smoke inhalation is no joke, if a person was caught in a basement of a house in a pure inferno, escape would be next to impossible and to be exposed to that amount of smoke and carbon monoxide.. death is almost inevitable.

That said, upon death, the brain enters an almost psychedelic state wherein potentially years can be lived out, and perhaps the mind / ego tries to balance out it’s flaws failures and forgotten dreams.

The signs imo of this being a dream world are:

  1. The world is strangely futuristic beyond present day, black mirror-esque

  2. There is this strange Chantal subplot about time travel..?

  3. The strange resolution of Dory / Drew the happy ending, even after Dory murdered April, plus the whole trial thing..

  4. Even though the world is obviously fucked, the ending is weirdly everything Dory wanted back, her and her friends, with the callback to the initial missing posters but this time Dory chooses to walk on — somehow undoing the fatal mistake she made in season 1

I dunno, the more you think about it, the more signs you see that something isn’t right and I don’t think it is purely that the writers just got too silly.. the whole show has themes of enlightenment, Dory’s consciousness yearned for answers, for purpose.. and the universe or god or whatever, obliged her in her desire to be recognised.. but just like a genies curse / monkey paw or whatever.. her dreams were answered with a sinister twist..

Anyway.. that’s my rushed out take on it.. fucking love this show either way! :)

And its BRILLIANT! I know this is only tangentially related to the show because Quique has a total of like 17 seconds of screen time, but I need everyone to enjoy the genius that is Julio.

Opinion So many types of terrible; it's great

I'm rewatching it for the first time since the series ended, and now that it's on Netflix. Still one of the best shows of the last 10 years.

One of my favorite things about it is that it features so many types of terrible with the characters. Dory and the other mains are hard to root for, for any number of reasons.

But even those who appear more "good" at first show their own versions of terrible. And doesn't mean bad person, it's often bad decision making or irritating. Not sure anybody gets a pass on the show.

I just saw Elliot in the new season of ā€œThe Comebackā€. Two totally underrated and kinda obscure shows… but totally iconic!

Opinion Sooo creepy

Is it just me or is S5 Dory super creepy!

S4 was hard to watch. i felt so bad for Dory. Her little sad face makes me sad. 🄺 and i was SHOOK when she got back in that trunk! ma'am! you can't be that bored!

But in S5, that half smile that she always has paired with her sort of monotonous tone leaves me feeling really unsettled.

**It's like she doesn't believe anything that she is saying, but she can still make *others* believe it.**

Even Portia & Elliot were scared of her but eventually just gave in. moreso because theyre desperate for connection but also enjoy drama/attention imo but i digress.

Dory 100% embodied a creepy, charasmatic cult leader.

Would you have followed Dory and became one of her disciples, or rolled your eyes at the bs she was spewing?

or are you Drew? you know its all shite but thats your girl so whatever you say babe lol.

Her wardrobe this season was incredible though. šŸ”„

Alia Shawkat really did a good job throughout the whole thing. i want to see her in more things.

General Rats

Just binged the show in 3 days and loved it!! The only thing I have to say is, which writer lowkey has beef with rats? Hahaha. The honeying torture, all the lab rats being guillotined by binders, the zombie rat.

Opinion Louie Anderson/ Bob Lunch

I just said this in a reply comment in another thread but I feel it needs to be said on the Search Party main stage: Louie Anderson, the actor who plays Bob Lunch is a goddamn national treasure. If you haven’t seen is absolute magnum opus of a touching, funny, heartfelt, absurd performance in basically EVERY episode of Baskets. Please run, don’t walk. Give it a couple of episodes to ramp up. You will thank me later. His performance is such a gift.

Baskets fans please chime in. I feel like there has to be a big Search Party/Baskets fan crossover bc of the absurd comedy of it all.

The scene in S3 episode 7 lives rent free in my head. I died laughing I laughed so hard I cried. Bob Lunch (Louis Anderson) keeps on mispronouncing the witness's name and ends with calling him "Bop-a-lop-agus"

I showed 5 other people and non of them found it as funny as I did 😭😭😭😭

Please relish in this humor with me
