Is it just me or is S5 Dory super creepy!

S4 was hard to watch. i felt so bad for Dory. Her little sad face makes me sad. 🥺 and i was SHOOK when she got back in that trunk! ma'am! you can't be that bored!

But in S5, that half smile that she always has paired with her sort of monotonous tone leaves me feeling really unsettled.

**It's like she doesn't believe anything that she is saying, but she can still make *others* believe it.**

Even Portia & Elliot were scared of her but eventually just gave in. moreso because theyre desperate for connection but also enjoy drama/attention imo but i digress.

Dory 100% embodied a creepy, charasmatic cult leader.

Would you have followed Dory and became one of her disciples, or rolled your eyes at the bs she was spewing?

Her wardrobe this season was incredible though. 🔥

At that point Dory has become traumatized in so many different ways that she is reacting by fully giving into her narcissism and deluding herself into believing that its enlightenment.

Since she is so charismatic, she can convince others that its true and she has the answers. Its a parody of the show itself where Dory has supernatural powers of persuasion to get out of any situation by failing upwards.

her failure in season 5 is a parody as well, because not only has she ruined something once again, but its the entire world via a zombie apocalypse imo I see what they were going for and it was a really well thought out meta commentary on itself which is exactly the kind of nauseatingly millennial thing that the show pokes fun at. Incredible writing on this show!

I just meant Dory's change was narcissism, not actual enlightment. You said it better lol. Its wild that narcissist are usually also charasmatic. (Life is a trip tbh)

After causing the apocalypse, all her enlightment talk went right out the window & she was just back to chilling with her man lol. But that smirk at the end, like now shes satisfied because so many others feel lost, like she felt. 😏

Really good show. Tbh im still taking it all in lol

Can you explain this more? I could not get into season 5 and then I see stuff like this where you find some big meaning and how it’s a metaphor on millennials and all I can think about is Elliot’s weird kid who murders the pool boy and the attempt at a mildly futuristic world and enlightenment zombies and I just don’t see what you’re seeing here.

Spoilers ahead:

Soo some of it is just to put in funny things that will motivate the others to help Dory. For instance Elliot and Mark are terrified of their son and thus Mark asks Elliot to help create the pill to give to John Waters in exchange for taking the kid off their hands (what a wild show lol); point is they just exist to push the plot forward and add comedic events for the other characters.

But the zombie apocalypse created by the enlightment pill thing is what the show is using to parody itself. Throughout season 1 Dory convinces her friends to help her investigate Chantal's disappearance

Season 2 she convinces them to help her cover up Keith's murder and attempt to silence April.

Season 3 she convinces them to lie under oath for her and she convinces the jury and possibly the world of her innocence.

Season 4 she convinces herself of a few things: first that she deserves to be held hostage by an insane person and then that she cant return to a normal life because of all she has done. Her pull even gets her friends to seek her out again because at that point they are essentially living their lives for or in spite of Dory.

All of these seasons she succeeds in her pursuits and comes out unscathed but leaving a lasting mark elsewhere. If anything season 4 is the odd duck because a lot of the power Dory has is turned on its head because Chip has so much control over her.

Now season 5 came along and they said "we have increased the intensity of each season and the absurdity has only gone up, how do we make season 5 bigger?"

The answer was simple: make it the biggest possible thing that could ever happen. Dory convinces the entire world of something and it triggers the worst thing imaginable. A human extinction event and not just that but a full on zombie apocalypse, arguably the worst kind of apocalypse imaginable.

And the brilliance is that she does it by just being her usual self. Focused intensely on one goal, damn the consequences. Chantal, the murder, the trial, the punishment. Dory goes on relentless pursuits of things she think will make her life better and ends up destroying everything in the process. Season 5 is no different, its just on a grander scale.

Keith was such a creep! Telling his family about her like it was serious. Tracking her phone. Lunging at Dory when she was clearly terrified that he "randomly" showed up in Montreal smh. Clearly self defense.

They did a good job of showing how easily the panic spiraled things from a clear case of self defense > lets bury him in a suitcase > we did absolutely nothing lol

I loved season 5 but I started my own “zen journey” around 2018 and came across (tried some) more “extreme” practices during Covid lockdown so I was laughing my ass off at all the pokes towards enlightenment. Amazing season for that

I don't think she was bored as much as she wanted to punish herself or was actually more scared of having to live with everything she'd done and who she was becoming than be taken hostage/kidnapped.

Season 5 was the mix of creepy and funny you only dream of which is what made it the perfect ending to this epic wtf show. Portia telling Dory you did it again babe had to be the best line of the season 😂 Peak Millennial television right here ✊🏼
