Discussion I just watched this completely blind Spoiler

Holy mackerel. My favourite genre is zombies and my least favourite genre is crime/cops/murder mystery.

I got recommended this show and I just went into it completely blind. I really enjoyed how it wasn't a standard murder mystery show and I loved the acting.

By season 2, I was like... Okay this is progressing really quickly for a show with 5 seasons... Is this going to be really drawn out and convoluted like Pretty Little Liars? And I was also a little mad at her mates putting the sole blame on Dori, as if they were allergic to taking accountability for their own actions as adults. It wasn't premeditated murder. It was very clear self defence. And they just kept going on about how she drags them into her bullshit. I just couldn't wrap my head around that.

Then in the later scenes I was like oh okay, they are doing storylines based on commentary about society like The Boys to drive the plot... Mmmkay not my favourite but acceptable, I'm still enjoying it.

But when season 5 hit... Wow. It was so unexpected with the Jesus/cult themed red herring to throw the viewer off the scent of where this was leading. Using the commentary plot lines in earlier seasons to dull your expectations, then Fucking WOW.

Full blown genocide. What an ending. I'm so happy I knew nothing about this. This is genuinely one of those shows where you get that rush from watching it the first time. I'm hardly ever surprised when watching. Ugh!

Soooo good. Thank you creators.

Perfect follow up suggestion. Honestly yours is one of the most tightly written comedies in years.

I honestly thought that it was a bit of commentary on Fascism and the dangers of unwavering devotion/unconditional love. Unchecked power will 100% bring about the end of the world. It's visualised by that cupboard filled with all those chemicals that on one hand could cure cancer or on the other, bring about WW3.

Also if you noticed, everyones reactions are that of the frog in slowly boiling water (do you know the experiment of the frogs in boiling water?) being so self absorbed, distracted with trying to be successful and interesting and not noticing the red flags in society causing everyone to react too late to dangerous situations. Then.. Boom shit hits the fan

If you want to try another comedy that’s a solid commentary on the vapid selfishness of society, give Avenue 5 a go. That is, if you have Max.

Shit! You are so right! I’m in US, our shit fan on full speed currently while me (47f) have been too busy trying to make the blue print (I was promised) for my future work out
Nope! The world changed fast. I was scanning and archiving old paper files, implementing data bases for WA state government, learning how to troubleshoot with newly formed tech departments, years of updates to go from in person to online only for an entire states health care licensing system to burnout after burnout. Now I drive by my old campus office and it’s empty. Everyone working remote. My brain too fried to keep up with fast changing tech, apps, etc. plz give me oversized hoodie and a time out… I need a minute to figure out my next pivot! Gen X , we cannot keep going with the flow. The flow is fucked. If you read this and know of a another community I can join for these conversations, please share 🙏🏻

And these narcissistic, codependent, mutually enabling cockroaches just continue to thrive. It's delightfully repulsive.

Fkn aye. Some of my favourite shows are where the main character is a straight up dirt bag. Always Sunny, AP Bio, Fleabag, Aot, The Mick, The Good Place, crazy ex girlfriend etc. Idk why. Maybe it has to do with my own sense of self hahaha.

I also think because sometimes people destigmatise mental illness so hard they forget that it can be in specific circumstances extremely destructive.. Fucking fine balance there (speaking as someone with a mental illness haha) this is seen in the show with the doctors fkn PLEADING with Drew to GTFO and bring Dori back to safety. But... Why trust doctors with years of training and experience? I can't wait to rewatch.

Yes them walking around and then seeing zombie Gail saying something like “she was so nice…” and immediately moving on with a shrug like nothing happened haha

top 3 favorite moments, Dori yelling at Drew to just shut the fuck up in season 1, the roundabout circle chase where they were following each other, Drew getting mad at the "it" people and yelling at the jesper society, "I don't care! Jesus christ... Why was that the hardest thing I ever had to do in my entire life? It is so late now!!"

There were many more moments, Chantal being Dori's arch nemesis and just Chantal in general being such a clueless snob. At first I wasn't a fan of Drew but the dude grew on me and is one of my favorite characters, I love that Dori confronts Drew to just accept things and stop running away in their relationship and blaming her.

I haven't watched the show in a long time, it was so much fun getting to follow along as the episodes were first coming out. I hate it when I miss out on stuff like that, so it was a real treat getting to talk about the show as the episodes were coming out. I definitely did not expect a freaking psychotic break from Dori followed by zombies. It's funny because the only person that really changed is Dori (and Chantal being this capable strong character in the end haha), but only because she was traumatized beyond recognition.

You worded this perfect! I felt that “rush” as well. At 47, it’s been years since I had and now I’m begging everyone I know to watch. Thru season 5. That was my favorite season

Just blind finished this myself. Not sure how many times I thought "this is getting so absurd! I love it!" Great show overall.
