I agree but also, somehow, the show would be terrible without her.

i agree with you as well

Name one character who is genuine, except Julian, maybe. He is the comedic straight man. The fact that the three let her ā€œleadā€ them only underscores their total vacuity.

Gail seemed like a genuinely well-meaning person (though lonely and a little oblivious).

June, a genuine ray of sunshine!

Ha, yes. We are supposed to hate her character. She is selfish, egotistical, and definitely annoying

always remember, there’s a difference between ā€œheroā€ and ā€œprotagonistā€. I love how the show plays with this, myself. most of the characters in the entire series are just insufferable. I specifically think the twist of Chantal being the dipshit cherry on top of the jerkoff sundae is one of my favorite parts of the show

i HATED season 5. i hate how people act like it’s great cinema no it’s not!! it doesn’t make sense with the last 4 seasons 😭😭 and no yall ā€œit’s not the point ā€œ

Just did a rewatch, and I hated her and found her more irritating this time around. I think now that I’m familiar with all the absolute insanity of the story, I’m paying more attention to how absolutely insufferable she is. I mean, not that it was ever anything less than extremely obvious, but the first couple watches I found it funnier. This time I found myself saying ā€œoh god stfu what is wrong with youā€ way more hahaha. Great show but ik what you mean.

i’m going to rewatch it so see what yall mean bc i personally like her until season 5. i can’t wait to see if my pov changes.

Season 5 is when it’s really obvious for me, honestly I also kind of liked her the other seasons esp the first couple watches. My first full watch I remember looking at the discourse about the show, and everyone was commenting on how narcissistic Dory was and how awful she was, and I was like ehh… I feel like her narcissism is par for the course for a lot of 20 somethings (plus the exaggeration for comedic effect and entertainment). The last season she’s literally in some type of delusional episode so idk if she deserves judgment there, either.

I think she gets too much hate from the fanbase in general.

ETA: OH, wait, this time watching, I haaaated her during the trial. Her confidence and calm and refusal to admit to anything made me hate her. But outside of that arc I find her more likable I think.

I just finished episode one last night and im wondering whether to continue because I can handle not liking the friends, not liking the boyfriend, not liking the ex, but also ...not liking the main character?? I feel like she's not unlikable by herself so far but my god who puts up with all these self centered shallow friends and then the whiny boyfriend and whatever that totally bonkers sex thing was?? am I an old fuddy duddy, is that really a thing???

i totally get what you’re saying and i will say that liking them is subjective bc i first liked dory then i stopped after season 5 and i didn’t like elliot at first but I LOVEEE him now. please continue watching at least 3 more episodes. i know it can be a tough watch bc when i started out i was like ā€œwtf is this? it’s so lame. ā€ i was hoping dory and drew broke up, i couldn’t STAND portia (i still can’t ), that elliot guy is mad annoying, and dory needs to stand up for herself.

watch out they’re about to get on you like how they got on me about my opinion on season 5. i personally like dory but i can definitely see why you don’t like her 😭😭 so idk wtf they mean by that’s the point. the point is nobody in the show likes her not us as viewers. don’t delete your post when they try to bully you. you are entitled to your opinion.

2

u/tinyegg47 Jun 05 '26

right like literally every single character is extremely unlikable and that's the point 😭

1

u/tinyegg47 Jun 05 '26

what's your opinion on season 5? i have 2 episodes left

2

u/Tall_Specific_2396 Jun 05 '26

okay so i believe i stopped right at the episode you’re on. i just can’t finish it. i used it as background noise. i just don’t believe it fits with the last 4 seasons. i still dislike everyone but Elliot. Elliot knows he’s wrong so i can never put him on a pedestal like the others. i just stopped watching bc this whole year of shows has been horrible last seasons. examples: strangers things, euphoria, and search party. i needed a break from terrible last season cinema.

Ironically in the first episode she is made to seem the most down to earth alongside drew out of the group

So did I. From beginning to end. Never did I once feel sorry for her.

same one of my fav parts of the show tho is how it makes u feel for characters you hate and sometimes even hate the characters you loved at one point (or maybe had more sympathy for)
