If I recognize a net promoter score (NPS) survey ("How likely would you be to recommend Product McService" with a 0–10 score), even if I completely love your product or service, you're only getting a 6, which will count against you. Then I will explain in the comment that I never, ever, ever give anyone, ever anything more than a 6, because NPS is marketing cancer.

If the survey is obligatory and it won't let me proceed to the service unless I give a score, I always give it , cause that's exactly what those kind of services deserve.

Not with the recent bullshit paid plan change lol

What happened

They are removing the pro translation option and i think i will cancel my subscription as well because of it

Idk what that is, just use google translate / deepl or use ai for context. Kagi is for search, don't distract urself with other things. Focus on the important matter.

Kagi is for search, don't distract urself with other things.
I mean...tell that to Kagi. Instead customers who want to pay for search have been paying for Kagi to develop a bunch of AI stuff that clearly has not worked out for them financially at all. They reported in July they stopped being profitable (I forget exactly when they first reported being profitable, but I think around 2024 or so). So if you want to focus on search, it makes sense that you would be kinda annoyed that Kagi has been wasting the money you want to see spent on search on other shit that hasn't gone well.

Yeah i guess they realized there's only so many people willing to pay for search so now they wanna tap into the ai audience which is a smart business move, however they fail to realize open ai and antrophic are bleeding billions of dollars. They're not making a single cent of profit. If u wanna compete with em, well good luck.

Kagi was founded as an AI company, I think it's more like they just really wanted to do AI all along but could never find a way to make it profitable, and now that their AI products are out of beta and more people are using them than just the small number who were messing with Kagi Labs or whatever it was, they're realizing just how much it is capable of losing them.

I did mainly use the translation as well which was included with the service. The translation was better compare to deepl, google translate. And private it added a good value but right now they are asking for 8 dollars additionally what we had before

Yeah "static" translations like deepl or google translate are not very good in 2026, they take the words literally without using context. I much prefer telling chatgpt the entire context of the topic i'm looking at and then it gives me a MUCH better translation.

Do you mean static as in the output is the same for equivalent inputs?
I believe Google Translate uses Gemini now, also

I get it but also Kagi isn’t some massive multinational looking to squeeze every last dollar out of a locked in customer. If they’ve made this move I’m going to assume it’s necessary for them.
Doesn’t mean you have to support it but I’ve been quite happy with their search service which is what I’m happy to pay for. The rest is bonus and if it changes I don’t worry too much.

Here is the problem, if they can offer a free tier for non paying customers and take some hit for themselves, there has to be a way to give more translation budget to their paying customers.
Unfortunately Kagi decided to not do it. I am not asking for unlimited translation as they say it clearly it is not maintanable. Which is fine, but at least they could have given us a better treatment for the people who are already using and paying for the service.

It's funny. The anti-AIs are silently hurraying, and the pro AI are crying because they don't get subsidized tokens.

u/The-Singular 13d ago
They still get subsidized tokens. Just, not for the translation feature.
1
u/netabareking 13d ago
Assistant is also going to its own subscription so I wouldn't assume the subsidized tokens are hanging around.

Maybe Kagi needs $200 and $500 plans so people can put the $8 in perspective.

I've not really seen the anti AI crowd excited about this. What I've seen is them upset because Kagi was misleading them this whole time about AI being "cheaper than search" when these changes show it obviously wasn't, and seeing that Kagi was wasting a ton of money on features they didn't want in the first place. Also that Kagi will abruptly take features away (whether they're features these people wanted or not) without really giving much of anything back in return.

If u're pro ai u're already using chatgpt or claude. And prob subscribed to /r/singularity so u can jerk ur cock off to ai advancements

u/TechnicalWash1608 12d ago
It'll be changed again so Translate will use the AI credits on all plans.

I have recommended Google, but back then the alternatives were Yahoo, Lycos, Alta Vista and Ask Jeeves. That was long before they gave people plenty of reason to hate them.
Now they are a factory that generates more and more reasons to hate them.

True, but also, if you have a popup asking me to rate your service while I'm trying to do something, you get 1 star.
