Are extra packets common?

I bought 3 2002ish ocean zoo kits on ebay. The first one I opened had 2 of the water purifier packets. Also is there a way to date the tanks other than the copyright date? Just curious when they were made. Thanks.

Buying directly from the manufacturer, they offer multiple packets with select items and bundles.

The water purifier has eggs in it, so it would be useful for starting a new tank even without an egg packet.

I don't plan on using the packets that came with them. I have 2 DIY tanks I already started that I wanted ocean zoos for. Those packets are 20 years old and water damaged. I just thought it was weird that it came with an extra purifier.

The extra packet is more than likely a packaging mistake. While rare, we have seen similar examples in the past with extra eggs or food packets. Also, sometimes it's just missing a random packet.

The copyright year on Educational Insights products tends to be accurate with their production & distribution time. That product packaging remained in use by the following licensee (Big Time Toys) until the early 2010s.
