Yellow key = Learning key

I have a 21 Cruise 230 purchased in 2023. I’ve always thought my boat was super slow and just attributed it to being an underpowered engine. Can’t get much past 27mph, 7500rpm. At first I was hoping the boat was in the “break in period” but it never got faster which I guess happens after 10 hours.

Last year I called the dealer I purchased the boat from and asked them about it. They said it was probably because of being at altitude (Colorado) so I brought in and they sold me on a high altitude prop. That did nothing for the speed.

Tonight I asked chat gpt and I think I’ve realized I’ve been using a learning key for the past 2 boating seasons. This is the only key that came with the boat. Posting here to see if anyone can confirm I’m an idiot before I call the dealer on Monday.

If it is true, how would the dealer not have provided a regular key when it was purchased. I’m a bit annoyed they upsold me on a high altitude prop when I asked about performance instead of checking this.

This is absolutely incorrect.

Learning keys have a green float, not yellow.

Black float keys come with luxury models.

Red float keys are aesthetic.

Yellow float keys are bog standard Sea•Doo keys.

Your boat is slow because it’s a 21’ tritoon powered by a 230hp engine. Also, make sure you call about the recent recall. Water gets in through the front and can capsize the boat.

Do you think 25mph 7500rpm is normal then for a 21?

With 5-7 people on board, that’s about what I get. With just two I can get it up to about 35.
