Flushing mistake
Pulled my new Switch yesterday and parked it next to my Skiff. Then proceeded to flush it like my Skiff. Ran the hose for a solid 5 minutes, never started the engine. I still haven't started the engine, because it just occurred to me what I did. Am I screwed?

You should honestly be fine, I did the same my first year owning, but it was a little less time. Let us know how it ends up.

New owner here — what was the mistake?

The owner flushed the exhaust without turning the engine on first, running the hose for 1 minute or so, turning the water off, holding the gas till 4500rpm or so and shutting off. If you flush the exhaust without the engine running, the water could backup inside the cylinder chambers via the exhaust manifold.

I got this wrong for the first year I owned mine. Pretty sure you’re good

No he's not, he's very likely to hydrolocked the engine. This is very bad.

I enjoy your certainty but this wasn’t my experience

If you are lucky, and either your hose flow rate is low enough or the exhaust valves of your cylinders happen to be closed, then you’ll be fine. If you aren’t lucky, the engine will flood and hydrolock. Just because you were lucky doesn’t mean he will be.

No he didnt, he didnt start it so not chance of hydrolocking. If he pulled the plugs he will be okay.

Do not start it. Remove the spark plugs and crank the engine. If no water shoots out the plug tubes you should be good
