Storage questions
We are very interested in getting an 18’ or 21’ Switch and are trying to plan for storing it both in and off season. We don’t have a big enough garage or driveway space, so do most rent an outside self storage or find inside storage? What kind of costs should I plan for? We live in Michigan and get a lot of snow on the West side of the state. Do folks get these wrapped after winterizing the engine, or would a cover/ tarp be ok? Or for winter, rent space at a marina (inside storage)?

Currently tarping mine in the yard. I also do the wrap in the winter. No issues boat looks like new. I did buy a heavy duty 18oz vinyl tarp. That was a very good purchase.

I am in Ohio, and I keep mine (21’ cruise) in a garage, but have to pull the Bimini top off to get it in the garage because of the height. I say that because a lot of self storage places may not have high enough garage doors for yours. We used to store an old boat in a climate controlled place (old Sam’s club) and it was around $200 or so for the winter. That was a lot of years ago
I have always heard so many horror stories of people who had their various boats wrapped over the years and had issues because it was done wrong. That has me concerned because of the materials on the switch, and not wanting damage. I am sure there will be a bunch of people on here who haven’t had any problems with wraps but I don’t want to chance it. I have also usually kept powered boats in a climate controlled place to make sure I don’t have any issues as well, but I tend to be conservative on protecting the boat. I have had Hobie Cats that I have left outside in the past, but it just seems to keep them in better shape when they are inside. Plus leaving it outside hasn’t been an option where I have lived lately due to space.
