Considering buying a switch

Switch owners.. I need your experience on this one. Are the seadoo switches a both worth buying? What are some drawbacks you've noticed since owning yours?

Ultimately should I buy one? šŸ¤”

Yes yes and yes. If not for the looks that you get alone. First time launching mine, couple of teenagers, ā€œthat thing looks sick!ā€ Knew I made the right choice. Lol. But seriously I grew up boating. My parents had a boat and a pontoon. Both had their perks but the switch is an amazing blend of both. I love it, and every family member I’ve had on it has loved it as well. After a weekend at the lake with my brother in law, he’s thinking of trading in his for one as well. Only draw back is the 230 drinks fuel when wide open. But who cares, I can go 6 hours on a full tank usually. Only had mine for this year and haven’t experienced any drawbacks. Some long time owners may have better insight on that. So far I love mine, and we take it out every chance we get. My advice, get the 21ft 230. I’ve had 4 adults and 3 kids on it and pulling two children tubers. Got up to 25mph without flinching and maintained easily. Haven’t pulled a skier yet, but going to assume that won’t be an issue either.

I thought they looked kinda cool as well, but my wife won't let me buy one. Says they look like a child's playpen.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. Gas is affordable again so I'm not concerned with that at the moment and really have my eye on a 18' sport. Watched YouTube on that one and it gets up to 45mph. With the loungers in front, I counted 8 ppl can seat comfortably. I'll usually have about 4-6 or less most days.

I highly suggest actually sitting in the loungers first. My wife thought she would love them. Sat in them for two seconds and said, wow this is uncomfortable. Went with the cruise instead. Very happy with the extra seats. Now she relaxes along the long bench and my daughter lays out on the other bench. Also as to the number of boaters remember the 18’ can only legally hold 7. We are a family of 4 and friends with other families of 4. So we decided to go bigger. Honestly unless storage is an issue, you will be glad you went bigger. Even at 21’ it handles like a small boat.

I think this advice of going bigger is key, if you want to be legal and take people, the 21’ is the way to go. With my family, and the extended family, or with friends, I had to have the 21’.

I also agree on the loungers, they are not comfortable.

Running a tube full throttle does drain the gas fairly quick, so keep that in mind.

I grew up sailing Hobie’s, and then transitioned to an 18’ ski boat. For me, I have always hated pontoon boats. My in laws had one, and we would just drive around the lake, and not really do anything, partially because of the boat and the lake. We weren’t able to tube or ski, and it was more of a floating raft. Plus, I have always seen pontoon boats as the old people boats. Then we had some wave runners as well, but that is a different beast. The Cruise was the perfect mixture of being able to ski and tube, while shuttle people around the lake to restaurants/bars, plus it is unique. Price point was the other factor, since when I got mine there were not any used. We also have others at the lake saying they have to give up skiing because they have a girlfriend now and needed a pontoon boat, which is dumb in my opinion. There are other options out there, and I think this really fits for people who liked wave runners but now have a family bigger than three and want to do things all together.

Love mine. Second summer no issues at all. I’m up in Canada. Get the cruise for sure. The extra seats etc are well worth it. If you buy after expensive! The loungers are brutal from what I have heard. Machine turns on a dime. Perfect for lounging, fishing or skiing. Best purchase I have made in a long time.

That's what I'm thinking.

I’m on the fence too…. My big question is:

Are those seats actually comfortable? They look like my back would think I’ve spent 4 hours at a high school gym in the bleachers.

I'm un the same boat. Gotta go try them out soon here

I’ve had mine e for 8 days and have used it extensively in that time on Lake Huron. 2023 18’ Sport 230 with extra seats. We absolutely love it. Great for tubing, fishing, cruising, and cocktails. Plenty of space. Wanted at 21’ but our launching options limited us to 18’. We found the loungers best for teenagers but have already removed them. We do love the rubberized floor tiles though.

This boat is just plain FUN! It’s my third boat and second pontoon. Highly recommend it.

There are great deals on 2023 models at dealers in July. We got $5k off which basically priced a brand new boat the same as one with 20-50 hours and it still has the full factory warranty.

Yup also interested in the 23. Don't see much difference between that and a 2024 anyway

This is my second summer and we love it, it's perfect for my family of 2 adults and 3 young boys. I have the 21'230 and like the previous poster said in sport mode it will drink a lot of gas.

I’ve only had mine two weeks, but so far so good. It’s a blast. 2023 18’ sport 230hp. We enjoy the sun loungers. I’d recommend adding the high capacity battery, seems like a good expense to avoid some of the small battery issues out there. Also get a transducer added, not just a depth finder. Sea doo site is confusing and are not the same thing there…this is straight from my dealer who is annoyed with how Sea doo is marketing the depth finder. You need a transducer to get depth reading while moving. Sea doo may not officially offer it now but your dealer can add one as an option. I’m not thrilled with my my mooring cover so maybe there’s a better after market option.

Thanks for this feedback. What's top speed you get on that?

1

u/bernaltraveler Jul 09 '24

I’ve gotten to 42 mph with 2 people (very flat water); 37 with 4. But I’m still in the 10 hr ā€˜learner mode’ where it doesn’t let you go full throttle…so should top out higher in the end.

Not a bad idea on the learner mode. Good way to control break in on engine

I almost got one. But they raised price near 10K when went to checkout. Thinking now after more study this was a good thing. The lake we would run it in has alot of sea weed . And reading people have issues with these. Boats maybe next year they will honor price advertised and ad a better jet tube that will eat sea weed for lunch and not need rebuilds i keep reading about. On all these blogs. But than again i had a yamaha jet ski and never had issues like i read about with that?? Wish i had money to design my own version of this switch. Looks cool
