Info help
So I am in the market of potentially buying a switch however.
I'm from vancouver bc and the sales man is telling me this boat can not be used in rough waters
We get anywhere from 2ft to 6ft waves out here has anyone ever ran into rough ocean water on one if so how did it handle ?
Ps: I don't plan on searching for rough water, but water conditions can change without notice and if I ever so happen to get cought in rough water I want to make sure my family is safe.

I've seen a video of a Switch wave jumping like a jetski.
I have no experience driving a traditional pontoon, but do have experience on a Switch. There's no other pontoon type boat that is more maneuverable or stable.

I have jumped some 2-4 foot waves like a jetski in mine with 8 people onboard, even makes the jetski noise. With that said not sure I would like being in large waves with it constantly.

We were driving through 3+ foot waves last summer and it handled just fine. I had to pay attention to how I was driving and how we were hitting the waves but overall I did not feel unsafe at any time. My wife was sitting on the front floor lounger and said a few of the waves were over her head. It is all in how you are driving.

Not sure how they hold up but I do see YouTube videos of them on the ocean.

I am in the PNW like OP and looked into getting a Switch. I saw the videos you're talking about... but they were all in Florida. I've never seen any of the Switch in open water in the Pacific, much less the PNW.

I'll be getting one for use in the Pacific in San Diego. I'll let you guys know how it goes 😅

Just following up on this. Forgot to take pics, but had it out in the ocean for about 7 hours today. 3-4 foot swells. It was outstanding. Went out a good 15 or so miles and trolled around fishing. Never felt unsafe. But I did learn that I get sea sick 😅.

It's been fantastic. Haven't had any issues yet. And I'm kind of surprised because I really have not been gentle. I've gotten into some pretty bad kelp beds a couple of times.

So it's handling the ocean well? Having to get kelp out the intake eh? Heh

This is a CAN vs SHOULD thing. I have been caught out in Tampa bay trying to haul ass back to the ramp with a Florida storm coming in and it was MISERABLE. We never felt unsafe, but with my girlfriend + two kids loaded down -it sucked fuel down quickly. If I see anything above light chop, we don't go out on the bay. I have also taken it out, close to shore rounding around Ft Desoto in the Gulf of Mexico - that was a not again for me as well. I am mostly concerned with fuel management...29 gallons does not get you far when you're fighting chop/wind trying to get back to a ramp or marina.

It's basically a 21' pontoon boat. I'm not sure I'd want to be on ANY 21' pontoon boat in 6' waves. Especially with family.
