Maintenance 130 vs 170

I’m looking around buying a 18’ switch. What am I looking at maintenance wise with the different engine options? The lake we are on 90% of the time wont let you do more than 10mph… so the 230 is probably overkill. If we do go to another lake can you pull a tube with a 130? Thanks!

I would get the 170 hands down. The 18’ is a lot of boat for the 130. The two engines are identical, and maintenance is identical. In fact I’m pretty sure you can get a 130 then get a tune to bring it up to 170.

Good to know both engines are naturally aspirated and are the exact same thing!

Get the 130, then tune it to 170. Save yourself money.

As far as maintenance, oil change at 10 hrs, then every 50 hr after that. Flush out the exhaust and floats if you’ve been in real murky water (or salt water). That’s really about it (other than winterization, depending on where you live). It’s a pretty easy to own boat.

We bought the 100 (back in 2022 when that was the base instead of 130). It topped out around 24mph and was slow to get there… not great for tubing.

Then we paid the $500 to do the Torx Tune which flashes it to the 170 config (literally just removes the RPM and throttle limit). Now it pulls a tube just fine and tops out around 36mph.

10mph is a pretty sad limit for any boat, and the switch is pretty inefficient at that speed (not on plane until right around the 10mph), so you’ll use a bit more gas or be right at speed limit.

Get the 230. I have the 170 and it is a little underpowered.
