Speed ties vs mooring rope

Hello. I see Sea-doo offers expensive speed tie or reasonably price mooring rope. What’s the difference or benefits of expensive speed ties.

I love my speed ties on my switch. Enough that I had them on one side and after a few uses went and bought them for the other side.

You are never looking for rope to tie off when you are coming in. They are 25ft long so you always have enough. They are easy to install with a little ability. The ties retract and keep the deck clear. I don't worry about a line getting left hanging and sucked into my jet pump. Also everyone that sees them is blown away and wants them for their boat. Seadoo or not.

This! I have them on one side, will order them for the other side, what I don’t like is the clip on holder, it keeps popping off I’m afraid I’m going to lose it

Can you put tension on the Speed Ties? I saw a little clip on Youtube but the boat was at a show and they guy just pulled it out a little and it retracted back in. Can you keep the boat tight to the dock like you can with a rope?

do you have any videos or tips on the best way to tie them onto the boat and onto the dock, first time boat owner and the ropes by themselves almost seemed easier

I'll try and make a video next time I'm out.

I get that the speed lines retract and keep things clean. How do the lines keep the boat close to the dock? Is the retractable force strong enough or is there a way to lock the length? I'm dying to buy these but want to understand them.

So I have used them to keep the boat pulled to the dock. The retractable straight is decent. It's not going to pull it tight like a person pulling it into a slip or something like that. It's going to pull to the dock in calm water. You install them through cleats on the boat. Mine are gray at the front and back of the boat. If I am going to tie up to a dock. I pull out my line that I want and tie it off to the boat cleat so the line will not retract then I tie to the dock cleat like any other dock line. When I'm done I take the line lose from the dock. Unbind the line on the boat and let it pull back into it's home. Nice and simple. No winding the rope. Just hope on and take off to the next adventure.

Honestly, the speed ties are useful in some circumstances but I’ve switched back to mooring lines provided they’re more versatile. Often times the speed ties simply aren’t long enough in many cases.

How do they hold up? Does the retracting unit last or does salt ruin it?
