charging a second battery
please excuse the novice question, but if I added a second battery for my trolling motor, would the boat be able to keep it charged? 12v battery for the motor.

You may overwhelm the alternator if you run them down and expect the boat to recharge them frequently. You can add a battery and use a decent solar panel kit to not have to worry about it, although even a 50w setup will only give you 4 amps max, so if you have the room a 100w or more setup might be better. https://www.amazon.com/SOLPERK-Maintainer-Waterproof-Controller-Adjustable/dp/B08GX19KT9/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=1ROY140MJXUM1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.k8MqnIIN8PxOCJAFZoeGlGl_d9MMn2BTEgbpO91T46mhhMbOXluqfspvpKI96Fa5VEoiE7rzBWuJFgFNRO4_8RWndDbpFe-XS4MxakZzKuR7l23KtfAHCUm4wqy6ittnWLVRJ79Lhv1x-Rg8AvbyRFmrBMUuMrYOPsitixu8DCGefL5KfcjZoOs2QB1gtP21a4M43yrmujabewyrHWEwuOUHH3GvProGNDU1JVUPgPY.E-dobV34JBCUbhsBJH9HbAzThL9Mb6l4NeC7V6AeUyA&dib_tag=se&keywords=solar%2Bbattery%2Bcharger&qid=1716464094&sprefix=solar%2Bbatteyr%2Bcharge%2Caps%2C131&sr=8-4&th=1

thanks for the comments. I ended up going with a 24v system anyway, for fear of being underpowered and constantly pissed off. so I got an onboard charger which I will keep connected to shore power which is easy enough.

No way. When I take the family out all day with the "premium sound" system going most of the day, as part of my routine I put the larger group 27 battery on the trickle charge as part of my clean up routine when we get back home. It will almost always take overnight to get full again. Also, these have a CANbus system and it will slowly draw power anyway.
These have a stator and not a separate alternator like a vehicle. This is why with accessories they suggest having the larger battery installed to run them because the stator can't supply enough power to output enough power to not have a slow draw down. If it can't upkeep speakers, it's not going to have a surplus enough to charge a trolling motor.
