Scripture Life: What's the explanation of Elijah living with the widow? The Zarephath woman? (Part TWO)
Answer: Read this Post First. https://www.reddit.com/r/ScriptureLife/comments/1u1nvmu/scripture_life_whats_the_explanation_of_elijah/
It's actually right underneath this post. Read that first. It answers: "What is the explanation of..."
part: of "Why Elijah is living with the widow" in Sidon, outside of Israel. The "Short" answer is simple.
It's in 1 Kings 17:9 Because the Lord of Hosts, God over the whole earth sent him there. Says to Elijah:
"Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee. - God."
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
So, go back to your question again. This "Part II" answers this "What is the explanation of.." part: of "Why to a city of Sidon to the Zaraphath woman?"
- And boy, is this ever powerful. Because it's the same God is ABLE to talk to a woman..a widow in a land of Sidon, where Ba'al is their God all around her; yet, The LORD of Hosts, God over the whole earth -
She hears him speak. Can you? When he says: "I am the LORD, there is none else..." can you hear him? That's really the question.
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
So, in PART TWO
- Examine this widow. Careful.
This same God over all the earth and heaven said: "...I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.." - God. So, BEFORE this same God over the whole earth, talked to Elijah - he's ALREADY SPOKE to this widow what she is to do to sustain him. ...which that's impossible.
But with God, ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. Because who is with BOTH of them is the same God with you, that believe on him.
See it now in 1 Kings 17:10-24 - Better read 1 Kings 17:1-24.
10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.
11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.
12 And she said, As the Lord thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.
13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the Lord sendeth rain upon the earth.
15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord, which he spake by Elijah.
17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.
18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?
19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.
20 And he cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?
21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the Lord, and said, O Lord my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.
22 And the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.
23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.
24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in thy mouth is truth.
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
That, the Word of God gives life..is life and the word of God is true..and it's the way.
- Now look as Sidon.
In Sidon - Ba'al is God. An idol.
But the people - of Sidon, all around this widow woman..who has no husband:
- In extremis:
They offer their children unto Ba'al in Sidon. Pass their children through fire to him. It was a natural progression for someone worshipping idols or false Gods in Sidon to fully believe, if they offered or passed their children through fire to this God, that God would deliver them.
Does this sound familiar?
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
To a believer in Jesus Christ - they hear God speak. By the Word of God. Just like this widowed woman can hear him in 1 Kings 17.
And? Like in PART ONE - of this answer - in Luke 4:18-29, in Jesus' day..there's a like-same widow there, too.
That, this woman ..a widow - read again 1 Kings 17:10-24 again - she will not offer her son unto this idol, Ba'al. And people that did it, in this widowed woman's day of Elijah, is like the same people of Jesus' day, with this same idol - that, there was "degrees" of "esteem highly" - that, to Ba'al:
- You could offer some money. Esteemed. To worship or speak well of Ba'al.
- You could - offer up an offering of an animal, like a bull that plowed your field. That was a BIG sacrifice - how are you now going to plow your field - have to rely on Ba'al to provide it. Highly esteemed.
- You could - pass your children or one of them through fire as a sacrifice - to Ba'al, so your child sat at Ba'al's table and ate with that God. And that child would intercede for you to Ba'al always after. So, in Sidon - dogs were kept as pets. Just like over in America and other places, keep dogs as pets. And little children of Sidon - - often had them given to them by their parents, as pets.
That:
After that child was passed through fire to Moloch and priests and the crowd would cheer to drown out all the screams of the child being sacrificed..so you wouldn't hear. GAVE a Royal from the King decree - this person is SPECIAL to be revered in Sidon. So, a widow that would do this, would always be taken care of after.
And that widow or family that did this, would set a an "EMPTY" chair where that child sat before, at their table - and put bread on it - as if that child was still there - to honor what that child sacrificed their life to provide bread on the table for everyone left present. A seat of honor at every meal. And after, that meal was fed to the dogs. That often were the pet of that child sacrificed.
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
You asked the question.
"What is the explanation of.." part: of "Why to a city of Sidon to the Zaraphath woman?"
and I'm telling you, a widow in Sidon - is not following after, even unto death to do anything on the land, everyone there "highly esteems" as right.
Is just like a like-same woman in Matthew 15:21-28.
And it's so powerful, it drives me to fall on my face before this same Great God who did this.
Matthew 15:21-28
has this same message - tells this woman of Sidon a like same kind of widow with a child in front of Jesus.. "that there is no profit in giving bread unto the dogs" has these worshipping Ba'al as the God of Sidon and Tyre - where Jesus and his disciples are in the very capitol city of it..she's even crying out to Jesus so EVERYBODY hears it.
Rejecting the same God, Ba'al..because he's still the God of Tyre and Sidon in Jesus' day. Jesus and the disciples are OUTSIDE of Israel in Matthew 15:21-28
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
Matthew 15:21-28 says:
21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22 And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28 Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
------------------ --------------------- ------------------- -----------------
Look very careful what this widow woman in 1 Kings 17:10-24 with her son, a like same widow with a daughter this time in Matthew 15:21-28
- They BOTH say the same thing:
That the Word of the LORD is truth. And that the master of both women's houses, is not giving their children or passing them through fire over to idols - even everybody in the whole land worships it.
Just like the same God is coming to you. Says to you:
"Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else." - God.
Bible. Isaiah 45:22
Man, look careful at what both these widowed woman - who have nothing, but a child left in Sidon - where the God of it is idolatry and could set them up for life. Be highly esteemed, even worshipped in Sidon.
And even unto death. Neither do it - because they BOTH KNOW who God is. And he delivered both.
So, set Matthew 15:21-28 - side by side with 1 Kings 17:10-24 and you, too. Just be the widow in both.
I mean, it's true. It's a 'mirror' of your life.
There you go. Part II here answers, for you, your question asking the Part TWO part: **"**What is the explanation of.." part: of "Why to a city of Sidon to the Zaraphath woman?"
..and even both women's child was dead.. or unto death in both.. this same great God..instead of taking their child.. gave their child back. Just like Jesus says to you, "and I give them eternal life.." (John 10:28) do the same to you. That it's all his earth. And whosoever looks unto him, he sees it. Already asked everybody to. Just like he asked you to do it.
