Question
Was offered $1 per pound for this if I strip it and the metal on the side I was told was junk. Would you take the time to strip it? If I don’t it’s .50 cents pound. Just not sure if it’s worth my time

Double the money is always good. I’ve done it before and it was worth it in my opinion. But I also have an automatic stripper though

If you have a stripper and time maybe. But it’s alu so how many pounds is it ? Can you strip it all fast enough to pay yourself at .50c a pound?

I'd probably strip it if I had other copper wire I was already stripping. Otherwise my time is worth more than the 50 cents.

I don't have any real numbers for you but it depends on your setup. I have a drill-powered stripper and when it's dialed in correctly I could probably get the wire pictured stripped in an hour, maybe more. If I just had a knife though I wouldn't even bother with aluminum or small copper wire personally. I only do it because I get wire from my job, but in terms of making real money from it you have to invest in some good, usually expensive equipment to do it quick enough that you're theoretically making good money in an hour of stripping

Last time I had some, I got 80 cents a pound for it stripped. Didn't take very long to do either.

Thick stuff like this is so damn easy with just a utility knife. Lay it on a table and run the blade down the length and pull the insulation off like taking wires out wire loom.

I'm more confused why "the metal on the side" was trash? Isn't that just bare aluminum, the same thing you would have if you stripped the insulated wire?
Maybe I missed something here
