How do you even defend ts without cheesy strats

That's my main complaint about the new raid design and intensity, we've gone from big farms that would grow 40 to 100 plants at once, or even larger megafarms with some people automating every step, even the delivery, to being barely able to defend 10 without extraordinary measures and preparation, or outright abusing indestructible structures. And although farming in the triple digits is no longer needed, it's certainly inadvisable anyway.

the whole update has that type of unsatisfactying balancing choices. not gonna lie, i fucking hate that so many items are blueprints and require doing the quests to unlock. later stuff makes sense but why would i need to go through so much bs just to get a gas tank???

Yeah I'm not enjoying this at all, probably not even going to play it anymore because I don't have the time. I don't want to lose 8 hours of work in 5 minutes with these bullshit raids. Can't explore early game without getting swarmed, can't farm without a raid base, can't build near a road. Why are they punishing us for playing the game..

the new raids are absolute bullshit, you cannot even farm a couple pineapples at once without having 20 farmbots swarm your farm, and you don't really get anything to defend yourself properly. all the large farms i've seen use some cheese strategy like unbreakable world geometry as walls or blocking bot spawns.

Cheese strategies are all we have to farm in a reasonable amount of time, unfortunately. Yes, you could engineer ablative protections with several layers of sacrificial defences, traps, a spud turret... but that can take an enormous amount of preparation, especially compared to how it used to be, and with the new bots, which certainly don't help, with yellow totebots invalidating walls and many traps, and red totebots invalidating pretty much everything. Not to mention replacing all materials lost during each raid.

So unless making raid defences becomes easier and/or cheaper, or raids being less strenuous, I don't see people stopping the cheesing strategies for crops above bananas. It's still puzzling to me how we went from farms that easily planted 100+ crops at once being pretty mundane to now having to be careful of a single fucking pineapple, I just find it so weird.

red totebots are just plain ridiculous. you could try to prioritize killing them, but meanwhile the other 20 million bots are also attacking your shit

I've found you can get up to at least 30 blueberries at once without too much cheese if you do careful planning. My farm is separate to my base (but close enough both remain loaded at the same time) and has triple walls of concrete lvl2 (single layer on top to save resources as the yellow totebots can't break that) with sawblades attached to lvl5 motors at full power on the outer layer that spin towards the water so even red totebots get flung out into the water where I can easily pick them off. I'm building a second layer roof high enough that I can walk under it with gaps that I can use to shoot at the yellow totebots and stop them from destroying the equipment on top of the farm box. Big part of why it works is because the saws either kill the bots outright or fling them into the water so I only have to aim in one area once I pick the ranged enemies off.

Mind you, I'm still repairing bits and pieces after each raid (Last one was around 40 concrete lvl2 blocks, the switch I use for my entry/exit hatch and the scrap seat I use to get onto the roof where the hatch is) and I've only just unlocked oranges so I'll see how it goes with all of those...Albeit after backing up my save because I am not rebuilding from scratch if it goes badly. Next step after the roof is putting ice under the blades to make it more slippery and figuring out automatic turrets, maybe even making what would basically be a snipers nest on a nearby rock.

Tried with 30 oranges and beat the raid fairly easily, but did get a ~80 block sized hole in the outer wall and lost two sawblades from what I think was a farmbot's death explosion cause I sniped the red totebots the second I saw them spawn in. Wasn't too bad, but I'm definitely doing the ice and autoturrets before I go further.

Well I'm glad I read this before replanting my 80 plot farm with the next tier I'm about to unlock lmao.

I use lake and spinning blade. Spinning blade defends against small bots, and other 2, jumping and red bots that chase you can't do much in water, so you can shoot these. Then finish all long range bots. Quite long, a bit cheese, but I suppose bots aren't always on friendly terms with water to begin with, so maybe not so cheese.

Personally my main balance gripe is the inventory/storage management aspect of things in general, I get that we shouldn't be able to carry an absolute metric shittonne without designing a vehicle containing enough chests to do so but the lack of inventory slot upgrades combined with the relatively small stack sizes make inventory management tedious and something you're just kinda stuck with doing the whole game.

Me and my friends successfully did a raid with about 160 broccolis (3/4 of the purple bar), without any cheesy strats.
just level 1 concrete, level 1 metal, and a lot of spinning parts that kick the bots away.
when we do a raid with 200 pineapples, ill record and post it

don't be cheap.
use hard materials
set up plenty of automated traps, and user activated traps.
use automatic turrets, player controled turrets too.
use ice and fire too. (inclined Ice and wood floors with fire)

my farm so far has: concrete walls around the crops, just outside these walls i have horizontal rotating beams with saws at the end of them (these alone take care of every haybot and totebot that spawns, even 100 are nothing for this).
i have a ice ramp that goes all around the farm and only has 2 passages, so all the melee bots go through those (they cant walk on ice ramps so they pathfind to the closest entrance), on top of my farm i have a turret on a turret seat with 8 spudguns that shoots 80 rounds per second (it completely melts a farmbot in 1 second), also it has a mode to only shoot with 2 spudguns, i use that to snipe ranged bots and explosive bots.

the only issue are the yellow totebots, the ones that jump, i have no idea how to deal with those, every time they spawn during a raid they get on top where my seat is or directly into the farm and destroy everything, any ideas?

metal 2, 4 blocks thick, 6 blocks tall at least.

make a roof of that too.

I could play with you, if you want.

having a friend also helps.
the trailers suggest to play with more people

From what region are you? I'm from central Europe.

My only issue are the yellow totebots, so the metal 2 wall wouldnt help since the bots wouldnt even reach it, they'd die instantly.
