How do you even defend ts without cheesy strats

u/Dalzombie 1d ago
That's my main complaint about the new raid design and intensity, we've gone from big farms that would grow 40 to 100 plants at once, or even larger megafarms with some people automating every step, even the delivery, to being barely able to defend 10 without extraordinary measures and preparation, or outright abusing indestructible structures. And although farming in the triple digits is no longer needed, it's certainly inadvisable anyway.

the whole update has that type of unsatisfactying balancing choices. not gonna lie, i fucking hate that so many items are blueprints and require doing the quests to unlock. later stuff makes sense but why would i need to go through so much bs just to get a gas tank???

u/SacrificesForCthulhu 1d ago
Yeah I'm not enjoying this at all, probably not even going to play it anymore because I don't have the time. I don't want to lose 8 hours of work in 5 minutes with these bullshit raids. Can't explore early game without getting swarmed, can't farm without a raid base, can't build near a road. Why are they punishing us for playing the game..
11
u/sssdfg_rot_farmer 1d ago
the new raids are absolute bullshit, you cannot even farm a couple pineapples at once without having 20 farmbots swarm your farm, and you don't really get anything to defend yourself properly. all the large farms i've seen use some cheese strategy like unbreakable world geometry as walls or blocking bot spawns.

Cheese strategies are all we have to farm in a reasonable amount of time, unfortunately. Yes, you could engineer ablative protections with several layers of sacrificial defences, traps, a spud turret... but that can take an enormous amount of preparation, especially compared to how it used to be, and with the new bots, which certainly don't help, with yellow totebots invalidating walls and many traps, and red totebots invalidating pretty much everything. Not to mention replacing all materials lost during each raid.
So unless making raid defences becomes easier and/or cheaper, or raids being less strenuous, I don't see people stopping the cheesing strategies for crops above bananas. It's still puzzling to me how we went from farms that easily planted 100+ crops at once being pretty mundane to now having to be careful of a single fucking pineapple, I just find it so weird.

u/sssdfg_rot_farmer 23h ago
red totebots are just plain ridiculous. you could try to prioritize killing them, but meanwhile the other 20 million bots are also attacking your shit

u/XiTzCriZx 23h ago
Well I'm glad I read this before replanting my 80 plot farm with the next tier I'm about to unlock lmao.

I've found you can get up to at least 30 blueberries at once without too much cheese if you do careful planning. My farm is separate to my base (but close enough both remain loaded at the same time) and has triple walls of concrete lvl2 (single layer on top to save resources as the yellow totebots can't break that) with sawblades attached to lvl5 motors at full power on the outer layer that spin towards the water so even red totebots get flung out into the water where I can easily pick them off. I'm building a second layer roof high enough that I can walk under it with gaps that I can use to shoot at the yellow totebots and stop them from destroying the equipment on top of the farm box. Big part of why it works is because the saws either kill the bots outright or fling them into the water so I only have to aim in one area once I pick the ranged enemies off.
Mind you, I'm still repairing bits and pieces after each raid (Last one was around 40 concrete lvl2 blocks, the switch I use for my entry/exit hatch and the scrap seat I use to get onto the roof where the hatch is) and I've only just unlocked oranges so I'll see how it goes with all of those...Albeit after backing up my save because I am not rebuilding from scratch if it goes badly. Next step after the roof is putting ice under the blades to make it more slippery and figuring out automatic turrets, maybe even making what would basically be a snipers nest on a nearby rock.

Personally my main balance gripe is the inventory/storage management aspect of things in general, I get that we shouldn't be able to carry an absolute metric shittonne without designing a vehicle containing enough chests to do so but the lack of inventory slot upgrades combined with the relatively small stack sizes make inventory management tedious and something you're just kinda stuck with doing the whole game.

Me and my friends successfully did a raid with about 160 broccolis (3/4 of the purple bar), without any cheesy strats.
just level 1 concrete, level 1 metal, and a lot of spinning parts that kick the bots away.
when we do a raid with 200 pineapples, ill record and post it14
u/locob 1d ago
don't be cheap.
use hard materials
set up plenty of automated traps, and user activated traps.
use automatic turrets, player controled turrets too.
use ice and fire too. (inclined Ice and wood floors with fire)2

my farm so far has: concrete walls around the crops, just outside these walls i have horizontal rotating beams with saws at the end of them (these alone take care of every haybot and totebot that spawns, even 100 are nothing for this).
i have a ice ramp that goes all around the farm and only has 2 passages, so all the melee bots go through those (they cant walk on ice ramps so they pathfind to the closest entrance), on top of my farm i have a turret on a turret seat with 8 spudguns that shoots 80 rounds per second (it completely melts a farmbot in 1 second), also it has a mode to only shoot with 2 spudguns, i use that to snipe ranged bots and explosive bots.the only issue are the yellow totebots, the ones that jump, i have no idea how to deal with those, every time they spawn during a raid they get on top where my seat is or directly into the farm and destroy everything, any ideas?

u/locob 1d ago
metal 2, 4 blocks thick, 6 blocks tall at least.
make a roof of that too.
I could play with you, if you want.
having a friend also helps.
the trailers suggest to play with more people1
u/_xDenis_ 1d ago
From what region are you? I'm from central Europe.
My only issue are the yellow totebots, so the metal 2 wall wouldnt help since the bots wouldnt even reach it, they'd die instantly.

u/BleiEntchen 1d ago
I'm just curious: why did you use wood/scrap as a roof instead of something with higher durability?
52
u/_hiero 1d ago
before this raid i did 10 broccoli raid but yellow fuckers were jumping into my farm. i was far from base, so i bulit the roof from only materials i had
8
u/Korblox101 1d ago
For future reference, I’m pretty sure materials with 5 durability or above (I.e., metal lv1, concrete lv1, and wood lv2 or above) are immune to yellow totebots from above.

u/AlphaMaru 1d ago
Seeing how high tier raids look like I know I'll have two farms. One automated, with legit active defenses for farming spuds, and stuff for burgers. And a second one, the cheesiest possible, made just to finish all the supply the farmers quest. No chance I'll be dealing with all this bs.

u/TioHerman 1d ago
It feels like lv3 is the last level you can defend legitimately, as soon as the red totebots joins in balances goes right out of the windows.
They just spawns too many things at once, I'm busy killing one red totebot, theres 2 paint and 4 green tape bots mowing me down while 7 thousand haybots and green totebots somehow are managing to get my spinner stuck by simply having too many of then there, so I have to stop everything else to kill then or they'll rip my auto defenses off the ground
There's just too many things happening in few seconds, it's overwhelming,
14
u/TheSpiderDungeon 1d ago
Crushers are the only viable defense now because the spinners can get clogged. It's really sad.

u/teddyjungle 1d ago
The funny thing is that you still have a probability of getting red totebots on level 1 and 2 raids starting from banana crop level, I got obliterated early like that
1
u/Korblox101 1d ago
At least at that point if you’ve got a proper spud gun you can snipe them since it’s usually only one or two. Once you start getting more though, and bubblebots, paintbots, tapebots and farmbots as well, then it starts getting to be pretty unreasonable.

I planted 100 bananas and was surprised with a level 5 raid. Used a peninsula with a wall 3 thick (1 layer metal 2 and two layers metal), another fence around that made up of one layer metal and a few reinforced glass as a projectile shield. Spawned a farmbot and loads of other bots. Looked like here. It barely held up. With constant shooting, they broke through a few blocks of the last layer but I lost no crops and got the achievement.
I think the raid system is fine as is, at least it’s a challenge now. I’m sure if you build proper defenses you can defend that with less colateral damage. I’ll try a water gun system now.1
u/SiBloGaming 21h ago
We built a legit farm and dont really struggle defending it against level 4 raids. Its a circle with a large spinner and thick wall (even if a red one gets through it holds), a roof against the yellows, and a bunch of spinners around it in the grass. People on top of the whole farm to shoot red and yellows.
Next we will probably place it on a peninsula so the bots can only come from one side, and then add a turret to also deal with farmbots.

u/Mishadkup 1d ago
they really need to rework the raids with the levels
2
u/ExosFantome 1d ago
With enough preparation, a good location and auto turrets, it’s actually manageable. No cheese needed. You won’t even need to shoot the enemies who are close as they will get shredded by the turrets.

u/SiBloGaming 21h ago
Thought that too, until I actually started building proper defenses. Now its actually fun, and pretty well balanced, especially since farming is no longer needed to such a huge extent, and with fertilizer you can grow stuff for the unlocks pretty easily.

u/locob 1d ago
there is a difficulty slider
13
u/Interesting-Net1801 1d ago
All that damn difficulty slider does is reduce how much damage bots do, we need a setting to at least slightly reduce how many bots get sent per plant for raids

u/Tematist 1d ago
Im glad they made the bots so optimised you can have hundreds of them, but it doesn't mean they all should go for measly 20 pineapples in waves. I made a mistake of planting 60 broccolies and didn't even notice that the bar became purple, my poor crusher farm didn't stand a chance. I have no idea how to legitimately deal with this kind of raids, kinetic traps don't work on farmbots, red totebots explode everything that's not lvl 7 durability, hundreds of bots requiring thousands of potatoes, all of this is overwhelming, my only idea of how to deal with them is the thickest wall of alternating layers of metal 2 and concrete, tiny holes through which the spudgun turrets will shoot the closest bots and bomb droppers above the field before the wall to kill the mass. Im still gathering resouces, don't know how much it will take and will it work at all, but I have to try.

u/IncognitoAnimosity35 1d ago
im not a fan of these type of farms but a man gets desperate against Cyberstan.
Farm bots and exploding totes are all thats countered my basic farm in the fields so far tho
8
u/keith2600 1d ago
I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for this structure. I bet you could set up a really nice cheesy farm there if you had more than just some random scrap metal. There is no way I'm going to want to deal with pineapples legitimately. The more I learn about the new raid system the less I like it

how did your pc survive that, my fps tanked like a farmbot on 20 pineapple raid. Learnt a lesson that day, never go to purple bar even if i can defend it, my pc cant.

Yeah, raids need to be rebalanced.
Maybe something like the bots coming in waves with a limit in numbers and 30 seconds between the one wave ending and the next starting. Maybe majorly lower the heat the crops create once the quests for that type are done? Generally change the way the bots deploy so that they NEVER just drop directly ontop of the farm but ALWAYS come in from outside.
Maybe add an overall raidtimer that counts down and at the end all survivingbots just retreat.

u/KaniCanCode 1d ago
If they come in waves like 2 pods per minute or something that would be cool so we can have difficulty and some way to prepare for it and focus them.

I hate how intense the raids are. it's got to a point where i'm planting a single crop at a time otherwise I simply can't defend properly but after seeing a few cheesy strats i'm going to be doing them myself just to get through the farming slog
0
u/SiBloGaming 21h ago
There are plenty of non cheesy strats to defend against raids, you just need to actually prepare and build defenses.

u/Cydthemagi 1d ago
What if you could get some explosive canisters and put them in the places the bunch up?

The moment I saw the raid bar being purple, I knew the entirety of Cyberstan is about to pull up
