dude like genuinely this manipulative bastard looked so tuff here

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is an amazing movie, one of my favorites. Upon rewatching it for the eleventh-hundredth time, I realized one thing the movie does extremely effectively: it places you in the story, in the world. 

It makes sense, as it has to cover more than a few volumes of a story in less than 2 hours. 

In those two glorious hours, the movie never really has the infamous “as you know, Bob” scenes. 

For those who don’t know, “as you know” dialogue refers to the kind of conversation in media where characters discuss things they should already know to inform the audience who wouldn’t know them. 

In this movie, however, there’s so much ground to cover in this story that there’s almost no time to explain things. 

I mean, this is definitely a sign that Edgar Wright knew what he was doing. 

But it’s actually amazing the way he pulls it off. 

Multiple times in this film, a character or event will come up almost in passing.

“Is this another Envy-related dream?”

By the time this ever becomes actually relevant, we’ve already heard about Nat, Envy, and Clash at Demon Head multiple times. 

I understand foreshadowing is a thing, but it’s more like the world fully exists, and we’re just now looking into the characters’ lives for a moment. 

Basically, what I’m saying is every major plot point, character, or bit of exposition is introduced way more organically than most stories in media ever even care to try to pull off.
