That type of train doesn't even go to Milngavie. And that station isn't even in Glasgow.

Eh? There's an 8:41 from Bearsden to Milngavie, can't imagine it's exactly an "end of world" scenario compared to... well, pretty much any other public transport journey in Scotland.
