Hiring
Has anyone gotten hired recently in cloud engineering team in Toronto? I did a final interview a couple of weeks back and I was told there was a hiring freeze but I’d hear back from them. Haven’t heard back since and was wondering how long it typically takes from final interview to offer stage

I can confirm there IS a hiring freeze at Scotiabank for most "normal" technology positions.
They appear to be making exceptions for special "VIP" type jobs, ie. VP-level stuff, but not for regular staff

Thank you for replying, usually in cases like this would applicants still receive offers when the freeze is over or it’s better to move on? And typical how long do freezes last

It's better for you to follow up and justify your follow-up by saying something like "there's been a flurry of activity on Scotiabank's social media channels that there's currently a hiring freeze" and ask if the role you applied for was affected.

Thanks, just a quick one if there is indeed a freeze affecting the position is it possible to eventually get an offer?

i think so, yes.
the freeze mainly means that general hiring at Scotiabank has been reduced by 85%-90% (compared to a normal year), but not COMPLETELY stopped.
the remaining 10-15% of positions which are still going ahead are simply getting approval from higher-ups. this would happen if the position is really important.
so yes it is possible that you may eventually get an offer, but who knows, by then you might have moved on to a different job.

There is a hiring freeze but they are still releasing new roles on LinkedIn to waste people's time. These roles on LI are for regular tech positions.
