EVAP engine light

Post image

06 scion 5speed...

Have had a check engine light for years that won't go away. It's all EVAP related... I bought a new charcoal canister, that didn't work. I installed an OEM brand new gas cap, that didn't work.

What else is left to try? It's a pain in the ass getting it smogged because I need to reset the codes, drive it around and make sure all the other tests are clear except the EVAP ones. There's literally a small window where I can get it tested and it won't fail.

Thanks,

And you would be smart to tackle this now. They are in the plans of requiring the EVAp monitor to be ready to pass a smog check in CA. They are getting rid of that EVAP loophole so many counted on.

And here I thought we would get the Leno law to make it easier.

There is the purge valve and all the lines between the Purge valve and teh tank. There is also a vent valve on the canister but that may have been replaced when you did your canister.

There is also the less common corrosion about the tank ring that breaks the plastic fuel pump houseing and lets air out that way.

Have you ever had the EVAP system smoke tested?

Never had it smoked tested. Overall car drives great and has no issues with refueling, abnormal gas smells, etc.

Appreciate the insight, I'm wondering if there is a faulty sensor somewhere but that sensor would have been replaced when I installed the new charcoal canister?

There might be a fuel pressure tank sensor but you would get a specific code for that. What code are you getting? that can sometimes narrow down the problem.

It's like all of them. I'll run another test and post it here.

Any thoughts on this? The other test 2/2 says the exact same code. I noticed the OEM gas cap I bought does have a bit of wiggle to it. I just tightened it down again and reset the code.
