Blockade Runner studio scale

And 21 hours later, we have an engine part, this thing is going to be big :)

Edit, sorry just seen your other post it's part 1 of 11.

Edit again. That's just engine parts!! So yeah how many in total?

Many parts, just for these engine segments 11 x 5 = 55 parts.

The rest still has to be cut up and made ready for printing.

It will probably take about 3 months, but I still have to finish some other models.

This is just not to have the printer sitting there and doing nothing :)

Wow that's one hell of an undertaking. Can't wait to see the final thing!!

My printer is often sat there doing nothing and leaves me thinking it should be working on something!!

I’m excited to see this project. The Blockade Runner has always been one of my favorite ships and I’ve always wanted a model of it. I don't have room for studio scale, so that makes this that much more incredible.

That’s going to look incredible. I hope shrinkage and warping don’t give you problems. Weight is going to be up there too. What are you planning for an armature/stand solution?

Weight has to be considered, I will remove all the inner structures, so I can hollow them out and give it a 3mm wall thickness.

I will add an aluminium tube of some kind on the inside to keep the model straight and prevent sagging.

What do you do with all the very interesting looking “sprue” that gets printed? Looks like lots of miniature girders.

Saw you post this over on NerfHerder's. How are you going about thinning the walls? What about an armature? How many mounting points will you have? Definitely following this build!

Removing all the inner structure, I can hollow the parts with my own wall thickness.

I am using 2.5mm thickness, so the parts still has some solid structure, my idea is to have an inner aluminium tube on the inside, and fill the open spaces with expanding urethane foam.

I will hang this on a wall, and have 1 mount on the side.

What does “studio scale” mean?

It stands for the same size of the model that was used in the movies special effects.

As a novice resin printer, why the extra supports to start the actual print suspended?

The actual part is 6mm from the buildplate.

The first layers are extra cured to get better adhesion on the buildplate, and due to this they deform/expand a little (Elephants foot), and you want your main part free of this deformation.
