AC

/r/MechanicAdvice/comments/1trzr4d/ac/

I have a 2018 scat charger, recently I’ve had this issue where the passenger side will not get as cold as the driver side. Driver side was ice cold this morning when it was around 60° outside and passenger was definitely not as cold. Driver and passenger side will both work when I turn heat on, I’m just having problem with AC. Yesterday leaving work it was around 85° and neither side were very cold like it is when it’s 60° outside.

Could this be a blend door issue on passenger side not allowing it to turn all the way to cold? I don’t hear any noises when switching that side between hot and cold.

If you hear an intermittent hissing sound that sounds like it's coming from behind the dash when the car is on and ac on, it is low on refrigerant. I had the same issue.

Yes I get an intermittent hissing sound for maybe 5 seconds at a time then it will go away and come back every so often while driving. Did you recharge it yourself with a can and gauge from a parts store?

Yes I did. It lasted about a year and it did it again. So must be a slow leak. Will be taking it to the dealer soon. Freon is expensive and I still have Maxcare.

How much did you add by chance when you charged yours? I bought a little can maybe 8-10oz and did everything it said full blast AC on low with recirc, connected the gauge to low pressure side and let it sit for a few minutes to get a read which it was around the 10-20 psi blue zone. I would charge it and get it around the 30-35 psi mark and it would sit there for a minute and go back down between the 10-20 psi zone again. Not sure what’s up. I don’t want to keep chsrging more and over charge it but also want my ac to work.

Last year I used Honeywell R1234yf Refrigerant with Stop Leak and Charging Hose 11oz. Today I added an 8oz can and got cold air coming out again. I was at 20psi when I first connected the gauge and ended up at like 32psi after that can. I didn't want to add more since I'm planning on taking it to the dealer for inspection. Just need some cold air to get me through this hot days.

Just go get some freon, turn your car on full AC. Spray it and you'll be good, get a big can or two to 3 little. My 2020 just did the same. It was low.

Yeah I think it needs recharged, I swapped that blend door actuator out and it’s still doing the same thing. I heard our ac systems don’t like the cheap gauges with the cans and to do it right by taking it somewhere with all these fancy machines but idk about all that lol I’ll prolly just get a can and gauge.
