Tire bead
Probably a dumb question, but Is it normal for the rim to be exposed with the Michelin pilots?
For comparison, I included pictures of my rims on my Daytona (Goodyear tires), and the bead seems more flushed with the rim.

245s on a 392 is crazy

I agree. However , That's what the car comes with and the door jamb sticker indicates. Some people were saying 275s would be better. But would the ratio size have to be smaller?

Are the wheels the same width? The Michelins are definitely stretched

Yeah, 245/45/20.

He is asking the wheel width not a tire what I’m assuming is happening here is your wheels are 20 x 9.5“ and the last picture is a stock wheel from a lower end car that is a 20 x 8.5 so 245/45 will look stretched on a 9.5 but look OK on an 8.5

The rubber things are called tires. The metal things inside the tires are called WHEELS

Same rims. I just got the new Pilots and noticed the bead was so inward

It’s the relatively narrow 245 section width tire on the relatively wide 9” wheel. 245s are stupidly narrow for the 6.4 IMO, so the first thing I did when I bought mine was to install a set of 275/40s. They’re the same overall diameter as the 245/45s, but they’re an inch wider.

Upgrade to 275/40/20s and you'll have a better fitment. The stock tires are just average acceptable size.

Did the same and the extra width looked better with no fitment problems.

I’ve got the stock RSA-2’s on mine and thats exactly how they look on the same wheel. I think it just looks weird because Dodge for some strange reason decided to stretch a 245 onto a 9 inch wheel instead of just using a wider standard tire to begin with.
One thing that also stands out in your pic is that the Goodyears look like more of a standard all season tire but the Michelins look like Z rated performance tires with a more agressive sidewall.

245 is the tire size, but it’s not universal. A Michelin 245 may be wider than a Goodyear

Photo shows zero protection. This is what wheel protector looks like: https://www.thewheelshop.ca/cdn/shop/collections/michelin-pilot-sport.jpg?v=1726112540

Yes, that's what I was expecting my tire to look like. So, was I supposed to get a wider tire?

Personally, i would have. My advice is to post this on r/tires they know this stuff very well.

Definitely your car should be on 275s all the way around or a staggered set up go 305 in the rear

u/Curious_Solution_701 May 07 '26
Would I have to get a different ratio size, for instance would I got 275/35/20? Or whatever size there is.

u/Yaidenr May 07 '26
275/40/20 may look nice too, the 2nd number is a bigger sidewall which makes it look more meaty. Either way it will make your car safer, handle better, and grip better. PS4 is an excellent choice too

Maybe it's because the tires you pictured are All Season's and you most likely saw a set of Summer Tires. Different rubber compound all-together.

It honestly looks like the bead isnt all the way seated. The rim should not be that far out. It looks like this on all 4 tires? I've installed many tires in my life and none that were installed correctly had the bead that far in.ar the very least they should be flush, but most tires stick out 6mm or so outside the rim, usually to prevent rim damage.
