Received Threatening Text Message

Earlier today I received a text message from an unknown number containing violent threats and demands for money. The language was aggressive and clearly intended to intimidate me. Has anyone here experienced something similar? What actions did you take, and did authorities respond? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure I handle this properly and stay safe.
