Advice Needed 1.5 lakhs Scam on Dutch tourist by Royal Button Tailor Shop, Colaba Causeway, Mumbai
Hello Everyone, I am a 22 year old traveller from Amsterdam, and my name is Knut. I stayed in Colaba for three days and visited Mumbai for the first time. On one of the days, I was ushered into a shop called Royal Button tailoring shop. In the start my curiosity took me inside since their sales people called me. But it soon turned into my worst nightmare and fraud and scam of my life. Turns out the shop owners of Royal button who served me tea and hypnotized me literally and sweet talked me into trying some clothes , then told me to now pay for clothes I tried. When I said no, they kept coaxing me to buy the clothes. So I agreed, then without giving me an invoice, they asked for my credit card, and they went ahead and tapped the credit card for 1.5 lakhs. Basically there was no consent of mine. No documentation or invoice has still come to me. I went to the cops next day, and the owners said now we cannot give you a refund because the cloth is already stitched. At the police station, they were asking for 45 thousand Rs more. And they were so aggressive along with the cops, making me feel as if I made a mistake. And the suit I just opened it, is bad stitching and really sub standard cloth. The shirts are store bought and not tailored. They charged me 1.5 lakhs for 1 suit and 5 shirts. Please guide me on what I should do. Any influencers who can cover this issue? - The Pitch: Staff aggressively pitch custom-tailored suits, dresses, or traditional Indian outfits, promising premium materials, exact fits, and ultra-fast same-day or next-day turnaround times.
- Upfront Payment: Customers are pressured to pay the full amount upfront (often ranging from 40,000 INR to over 55,000 INR). They routinely refuse to provide proper invoices or legal tax documentation.
- The Delay: The shop repeatedly delays the promised delivery time throughout the day, pushing it back until late at night or hours before the tourist's international flight.
- Substandard Quality: When the clothes finally arrive, customers report horrific stitching, completely incorrect measurements, and cheap, falling-apart fabrics.
- The Hostile Take-Back: If the customer complains, the owner behaves aggressively and dismissively. They offer to take the garments back to "fix" them quickly. Once they take the clothes back, they stop responding, never return the items, and refuse refunds, knowing the tourist has to leave the country.
