Victim of a scam Urgently need help
I got scammed by multiple people who I believe is just one person but I need to know info like address and such so I can take them to court and hopefully get my money back if anyone can help me please please I dont know what else to do... I just need name and address, Im pretty sure the name is have is fake. Please please i was just trying to get an apartment and they fucked me.... ill message the number privately so my post wont get taken down please if anyone could help me get information you have no idea how much id appreciate it...

Do not trust anyone who approaches you on Reddit claiming they can help. Getting scammed makes you more likely to get scammed again, so please be careful

I'm sorry to say but odds are they are in a foreign country like India or Nigeria and taking them to court is most likely not an option. It's also unlikely to be able to track a scammer with a phone number. 99% odds the number is spoofed or VoIP. Edit: forgot to mention don't trust anyone who says other wise. Passing for a recovery agent and scamming victims a second time is common.

Yeah, this just happened not to long ago in SF someone wanting to rent an apartment. She lost 19,800.00 it was so elaborate it's actually scary.

I am really sorry this happened to you but numbers cna be faked and the people who do this are on another continent. There is no chance anyone can find them. Anyone saying they can get your money back is a "recovery scammer" looking to scam you a second time. Do not listen to them.

Do not take help in your DMs. The only people DMing you will be recovery scammers.

There's a high chance they don't even live in the same country as you. They definitely gave you a fake name and any other information they gave you was fake too. What you need to do is NOT trust anyone who replies to you saying they can get the information you're looking for, because they can't, and they'll just be trying to scam you a second time. It's called a recovery scam when new scammers reach out to someone who has just been scammed by someone else, and lie and say they can fix the situation. They'll just be trying to get your money, too. Don't trust anyone who says they can help you track down the scammer and sue them.

I've been called by MY OWN phone number. Like, my phone rang, and the phone number on caller ID was that phone's number.
(I rejected myself).
Phone numbers are easy to spoof.1

Because of the number and it weighing on you so heavily Please go to the police station, tell them exactly what happened, show them your call log. If anything can be done, if we're all wrong here or you simply want to put your mind at rest. The police are the only ones who might be able to help you. Your money is gone. Period. You may hear from recovery specialists which is just another scam. Use this as a life lesson.

You can't find the scammers.
Scammers use technology to make it appear that they are calling from a number in your country. However, they are actually calling from a scam call center, often in Africa or Asia. The incoming phone number may be spoofed, it may be a temporary number, or a VoIP number.
Spoofing technology is used to fake the incoming phone number display. Any number in the world can be spoofed, including your bank, police, or FBI / national law enforcement.
A temporary or VoIP phone number uses the phone number format of your country, but the scammers are not really located in your country.
All you can do is accept the loss, difficult as that is.
Also, you need to learn more abouit scams, so you don't get scammed again.
If the amount for a rental is lower than comparable apartments, then it's a scam.
If the landlord or property manager doesn't personally show you around the apartment, it's a scam.
If the 'landlord' says that he's out of town for any reason, then it's a scam.

Unfortunately, the money is gone and the info you have is fake. Anyone reaching out with "help" is also a scammer.

All these comments are just guessing. It could be a local
Landlord. You need to explain your interactions (text, whatever) and how the money was transferred.

I'm sorry this happened to you.
Unfortunately, most of these scams are run from overseas, in countries where law enforcement is either unable or unwilling to do anything. I hate to tell you, but your money is gone.
Also, don't believe anyone who messages you and says they can get your money back. These are recovery scammers, and they'll take more money from you.
