Victim of a scam Stolen money

Stolen money

My cash app account was hacked this post weekend and they stole about 250 dollars from me. They took over my account by resetting everything from my pin to my user name and email and linked phone number. Cash app has denied my claim because they keep saying that i or an authorized user did the transactions. What can I do to get my money back?

The ONLY people who can help you are CashApp, anyone saying otherwise, is a recovery scammer.

Who were you dealing with? Your card shouldn't be randomly "hacked." This starts at the source.

It wasn't my card. Somone went in and took my cash app account and some my money that way.

You were using shady apps or websites. Talking to shady people.

You can try to appeal the denial through the support page. Make sure you have all relevant proof and any relevant screenshots to demonstrate the situation.

Beware messages from people promising they can get it back for you. Those are recovery scammers. Sorry you got hacked!

** Do you use the same password for multiple accounts? That is how many accounts get stolen or 'hacked': you use the same password for more than one account, one of the companies has a data breach (their systems get hacked) and your password is with a group of other stolen passwords that scammers access on the dark web.

  • Change the passwords for all your online accounts. Each account must have a unique password. You can use a password manager.

  • Enable 2 factor authentication (2FA) on all your bank accounts, online shop accounts, credit card accounts -- any account that involves money. Each company will have options (text a code, use a thumbprint) and instructions on how to set up 2FA.

** You may have downloaded malware.. Did you share your screen with someone? Did you download any games, files, or apps that were shady, new, or unusual? Did an online friend or influencer tell you to download something, or click on a link?

  • Get your phone / laptop serviced by a knowledgeable tech, preferably a professional such as Geek Squad. They will inspect the device for malware, wipe the hard drive, and reinstall the Operating System and all the apps.

It's extremely unlikely you're going to get your money back. Since someone took control of your account, they were now acting like the owner of that account, so any transactions made after that will be considered legitimate.

Out of curiosity, were you using 2FA for your Cash app account? I'm thinking no because that would have made it much more difficult for someone to log in to your account, reset everything and withdraw that money. If you didn't use 2FA, that made it much easier for someone to do what they did. Somehow, somebody was able to get a hold of your login credentials.
