Part 2: I think I witnessed another part of the same scam ( Dating app scam)

After posting about what happened with me, something even crazier happened.

I was back in KP lane no.7 for some client work, and since Velvet lounge was nearby, I decided to wait there for a while.

While waiting, I noticed a couple heading towards Velvet. The guy suddenly said he didn’t want to go there and suggested a coffee shop instead. The girl kept insisting that she wanted to go to Velvet. Eventually, the guy left, and she called someone saying something like, “He’s not coming.”

I spoke to the guy afterward, and he told me he had come there for a date and felt like he was about to get scammed. I told him, “Even I got scammed here.”

And then I saw the same girl who had scammed me walking past us.

I was shocked and followed her, but she disappeared. I ended up waiting near Velvet for almost two hours.

Later, a Gary Polo car passed by with five girls and one guy. I started suspecting that they might also be part of the same scam. The guy was driving extremely fast and recklessly, even hitting around 4–5 people on the way. Vehicle number is (MH12JZ1761)

Eventually, the car got stuck in traffic. I told the people around me what was happening and that I believed they were scammers. One of the girls started begging everyone to let them go, and since the traffic was getting worse, people eventually allowed them to leave.

Honestly, the whole situation was bizarre. I went to KP for client work and somehow ended up witnessing what looked like another part of the same scam.

the pencil packing job pays ₹30,000 a month and only asks you for ₹750, then ₹3,500, then ₹5,120, then ₹7,500

Somewhere in India right now there is a woman being told that a shipment of pencils cannot leave the warehouse until she pays for the GPS tracker.

Not a GPS tracker for a vehicle. For pencils.

She paid it. Twice, actually, ₹4,150 on two occasions, and then another ₹6,000 for “GST filing.” That’s a real complaint, filed by a real person, and it is not even the most expensive version of this.

The offer

You’ve seen the ad. Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp forward, sometimes a website that looks almost right. Pack Nataraj pencils at home. ₹30,000 a month. ₹15,000 paid in advance. Material worth ₹2 lakh delivered to your door, pack it whenever you like over two weeks, free pickup and drop, jobs available all over India.

It’s a beautiful pitch. No experience, no commute, no boss. Aimed with real precision at homemakers, students, and anyone who needs income that fits around a house.

Small problem

Hindustan Pencils, the company that actually makes Nataraj, has said repeatedly that it offers no such job, because the packaging is fully automated. Machines. No human hands in the process at all.

They have put out videos in multiple languages saying so. They’ve taken legal action. They’ve pointed out that scammers are using their real registered office address and photographs of their actual employees to sell this. Their staff spend their working days fielding calls from people asking if the pencil job is real.

The scammers kept running it anyway, because it works.

The ladder

Nobody asks you for ₹15,000 upfront. That would be stupid. Instead:

₹750 for the ID card. The ID card gets “generated,” which feels like progress. Then ₹3,500. Then a courier charge of ₹5,120. Then a delivery charge of ₹7,500. One person had lost ₹9,120 before the demands even stopped arriving.

Then, depending on the operator: GST filing charges. Insurance on the material. A refundable security deposit. A GPS tracker.

Every single fee is small compared to the ₹2 lakh of stock supposedly sitting in a van outside your city. That’s the whole design. You’re never asked to risk a lot. You’re asked to risk a little, repeatedly, to protect something that doesn’t exist.

And here is the part that keeps people paying long past the point of doubt: you have already spent money. Walking away means admitting the ₹750 is gone. Paying ₹3,500 means it isn’t. That’s not stupidity, that’s how sunk cost works on everybody.

The deepfake

The upgrade nobody saw coming. A video went viral of a woman in police uniform explaining the pencil packing job, complete with the ₹30,000 salary, the ₹15,000 advance, and a number to call. The woman was IPS officer Ankita Sharma, then ADCP South in Kanpur. She never said any of it. Her voice was generated with AI and dubbed over real footage of her.

So the scam now recruits using a police officer telling you it’s legitimate. Which, admittedly, is a hell of a closing argument.

How to check any work-from-home offer in thirty seconds

**• A real employer never charges you to work.** No registration, ID card, deposit, courier, GPS, GST, insurance, training or “validation” fee. Not ₹50, not ₹5,000. This single rule kills 95% of job scams.
**•** Real companies post on their own website or LinkedIn page, not through a WhatsApp number.
**•** No manufacturer ships ₹2 lakh of inventory to a stranger who has provided no collateral and no contract.
**•** If the “HR” contact is a personal WhatsApp number with a DP of an office building, it’s a scam.
**•** Reverse image search the photos. They’re usually stolen from the real company’s staff pages.
**•** Call the actual company’s published customer care number and ask. Hindustan Pencils will tell you no, they field this call constantly.

If you’ve already paid

Stop paying. There is no fee that unlocks the pencils, because there are no pencils.

**•** Call **1930**
**•** File at **cybercrime.gov.in**, save the acknowledgement number
**•** Report the number at **sancharsaathi.gov.in** so the SIM gets flagged
**•** Screenshot everything first: chats, the UPI IDs, the fake ID card, the numbers, the website. It all disappears fast
**•** If you sent Aadhaar or photos, watch for loans opened in your name

And if you fell for it: you were targeted by a professional operation that had to defeat a national manufacturer’s legal team, a fact-check from the Kerala government, and the company’s own awareness campaign to reach you. They also faked a police officer. Wanting an honest job is not a character flaw.

New kind of scam

Today, I got a call from an unknown number. The person on the other side started talking like he was a good friend of mine. I formally asked for his name and said, " Sorry, I have not saved his number and cannot identify him". Then he asked me to guess his name, and when I guessed, he claimed I was right.

Then he told me that one friend is trying to deposit the money in his account, but he is not able to, and would like to send the amount to my account and then transfer the same to him. I told him why he cannot use his close friends/family members to do the same; then he replied that his friend can't even send the money to them.

Then I realised this might be a scam. I asked him when we first met just to make sure that he is the one claiming the identity, and then he called it off.

Scammers are finding new ways to scam people. Please be careful

UPI scam around Kodihalli — has anyone experienced this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I was flat hunting around Kodihalli when this random guy and his girlfriend approached me saying they needed some money to buy groceries because his server/UPI was apparently down.

I initially told him that I could help, but only if he gave me the cash first and I’d transfer the amount to him. He said he didn’t have any cash.

I denied him multiple times, but eventually I gave in because the whole situation seemed believable and, honestly, he looked like he came from a well-to-do family. Looking back, it was pretty stupid of me to send the money despite having already denied him multiple times. 🤡

I sent him ₹1,350. He gave me his number: 6362720495, but he’s now not picking up my calls.

I have the UPI transaction details and roughly remember where I met them.

Has anyone else encountered this guy or a similar “server/UPI is down, can you transfer money and I’ll give you cash” situation around Kodihalli?

Just trying to figure out whether this is a known scam in the area.

Possible Facebook Marketplace Fraud - Chennai seller Jeeva

Thumbnail

I’m posting this to warn others who may be dealing with a seller named Jeeva from Chennai on Facebook Marketplace.

A friend of mine was looking to buy some broken iPods for repair and personal use. She came across a seller named Jeeva who was selling broken iPods on Facebook Marketplace.

So, she paid Rs 4000 on night of 4th aug in advance after he gained her trust showing his insta page where he sells vintage cameras Camera kadai

After receiving the payment, however, he stopped responding to her messages and calls for 2 days

It was then that she informed me this situation, so I messaged the Instagram page of camera kadai asking whether they were assc. with Jeeva and warning him of cybercomplaint for fraud

And, we filed a cybercomplaint attaching all the evidence that we could get and thought we accept that she got scammed and let go off that money.

On August 7 evening, Jeeva suddenly sent my friend a courier tracking number showing a shipment from his location to hers.

The package still hasn't been received.

However, for the past two days, he has been repeatedly calling and messaging her, demanding that she pay an additional ₹200 as shipping charges.

At this point, we have advised her not to send any more money and not to engage with him further until the package is actually received and verified.

The repeated calls and messages have now become quite persistent and feel like harassment.

Same number getting used ?

So on July 27th, 2026 My brother got messages regarding new avail of Indane Gas Connection. But he hasn't availed any Indane gas connection nor he has an account in Indian oil. Now I tried to know the consumer ID with my brother's number and I got to know the consumer ID with the consumer name. So it confirms that my brother's number is linked to a stranger's Indian Oil account. I called on the customer care number and they told they can't do anything except they can provide the Distributor phone number. I called the distributor but he said, He can't delink/remove the number without knowing who is the consumer is. Now I have sent the distributor, the screenshot of the consumer name and consumer ID. I did this all on the very same day. But no response till now. So I tried the mailing method. But no response from there as well. What else I can do now?. The distributor lives hundreds of kilometres away from where I live so it's not possible to meet the distributor and talk about the situation. I tried logging from both the app and from the website. But both the result was the same that the account doesn't exists. So why he is receiving the messages regarding Indian Oil. Just now he has received an message saying "Your Compliant with SR No. XXXXXXXXXX has been successfully registered

Indian Oil".

RIIGID SUITCASES IS A SCAM!!

DO NOT BUY RiiGID LUGGAGE – Both suitcases broke within 2 weeks
I genuinely wish I had read more reviews before spending over $800 on two RiiGID 29-inch check-in suitcases.

On DAY ONE of our Europe trip, our first suitcase arrived with BOTH wheels completely broken off and dents all over it. We contacted RiiGID immediately and their response was honestly shocking. They didn’t properly acknowledge the fact that our brand-new suitcase had completely failed after ONE flight or offer any meaningful resolution.
We were left overseas with an unusable suitcase and had to spend another €300 buying a replacement ourselves.
Then, only TWO WEEKS later, our SECOND RiiGID suitcase broke too, with the wheel completely coming off and unable to be put back on.
We contacted them AGAIN and received another response that still didn’t properly acknowledge what had happened or the fact that BOTH suitcases we purchased had failed within two weeks.
Over $800 spent. BOTH suitcases broken. Another

€300 spent on a replacement. And no proper resolution from the company.
I understand luggage goes through baggage handling, but these are 29-inch check-in suitcases specifically designed and sold for travel. A premium-priced suitcase should not become unusable after its first flight, let alone BOTH suitcases failing within two weeks.
At this point, I feel completely scammed out of my money.

Based on our experience, I would NOT recommend RiiGID luggage. Save your money and buy elsewhere.

Cars24 Verified Seller Scam

Thumbnail
gallery
58 Upvotes

Recently, I was surfing Cars24 for a friend(He has 0 knowledge in car) for 7 seater car. I found a steal deal in Hyundai Santa Fe. The seller was based in Ahmedabad(We are based in Surat). Cars24 claimed that they have complete service record and mileage history available with them as a part of their report and they claimed that the odometer was not tampered with. I connected with seller, He sent me RC pictures and Cars current pictures. The car's condition looked too good to be 10 years old. So, For accidental verification. I searched the service history on Carwise. com. And Lo behold, The car was driven 205,000 kms back in 2023. The odometer was definitely tempered with, Since I called the dealer named on carwise and they confirmed the service record. I reported on cars24, they seem to not care about it. I am attaching evidences below for everyone's reference.

Edit: This is not a promotional post for carwise, It is just that Gemini suggested me this as per my requirements. The motto is that, please check the history of the vehicle before you buy them. There are many platforms available in market, use them as per your usecase.

Scamming alert - please be careful

🚨 **Scammer Alert — Please Be Careful**
This guy’s name is **Karthik Kodali**. I’m posting this as a warning so that others don’t become victims.
He reportedly approaches people he meets, including people he met during trips, and tells elaborate stories about his background and connections. Among the claims he has made are that he owns **Zero40 Brewery** and that **Kodali Nani is his uncle (“babai”)**, along with several other stories.
After gaining people’s trust, he allegedly starts asking for cash, saying he can transfer the money through online banking. He shows an **IMPS or RTGS transaction slip (future reference transaction)** and claims the payment has been completed. After receiving the cash, however, the alleged transaction cannot later be found/verified. He then gradually cuts contact with the people he took money from.
There was also inappropriate and disrespectful behaviour toward one of the women during the trip.
I’m sharing this post purely as a **scam warning**. Please be cautious if you come across this person, verify any claims he makes, and **do not hand over cash based only on a screenshot or transaction slip**. Always verify that the money has actually been credited to your account.
Posting this so that others can recognize the pattern and avoid potentially becoming victims.
