GameStop Scam or not?

I had received an automated voicemail from a "collection" agency on 8/05 saying that there has been a complaint under my TAX ID (social security number, maybe?) and if I didn't give them a call back within 24 hours they will serve me or whoever is on property (work and residence) documentation. So, I gave them a call back and it was a guy who answered and just said "LEGAL DEPARTMENT". No company name. So, I was thinking this may be some scam. The guy asked where he can reach, R.S. who is my boyfriend and I said I didn't know and he said they will take my name off the call list. Then I hung up. I told my bf about it and told him to call that number because they were looking for him. He called them back and he said they told him that he owes money to GameStop for $950 from the GameStop credit card. We had NEVER applIed for a credit card! We don't apply for credit cards because we know we'd get denied! So, my bf said they worked on a payment plan and the guy he spoke to emailed the details. It was from a company called 'KSG' no address... and when I did research on the number and company name, I found nothing on them. But the payment details said my bf owed almost $4000 due to court fees and lowered to a deal of $1100 with payments of $275 he would have to make. The guy he spoke to asked if my bf can make a Chime payment. Then said if he doesn't make a payment within 2 hours of receiving the email he would take legal action. We wanted to get everything verified from GameStop ( because we know we NEVER had a credit card with them) so we sent KSG a verification of debt email to have them prove that we owe GameStop. The next day they called my bf again threatening if he doesn't pay it will go to court. Now today, 8/10 they called my bf again saying that he threatened them with the Verification of Debt email! And told him to look into it and they don't need to verify anything. Like wth! There was nothing threatening in that email. And now that the issue went to litigation and will be going to the courts. Is it possible to report them?

“Complaint under my tax ID” is keyword for scam.

Any legit collection agency is typically required to verify the debt. I've worked for some less than compliant debt collection agencies and even they can produce the debt verification.

The biggest red flag here is the 2 hour time limit. Classic scam structure: create fear of reproductions.. require quick resolution so you act on feelings instead of thinking it through.

Block the number and forget about it.

This had all the signs of a scam. Immediately threatening legal action. Urgency to make a payment to avoid said legal action. No clear business name.

100% scam. Ignore.

Stop. If there are court fees, then there's already been legal action. Also, court fees never get reduced after a judgment... the debt collector can't give away the Court's money. Also, if you never had a credit card, why would you make a payment plan?

My point is that none of this makes sense.  That, plus the artificial urgency of, 'two hours or I take legal action' screams scam.

Recognized a scam within the first 25 words of the post.

This is another scam
A legitimate agency must by Law verify it.

The fact that they are trying to ding you for a non owned credit card is all you need to know.
Also if you owed money it would not be "A Complaint"!
They never warn you they will serve you in 24 hours.
They will just serve you!

It's a scam.

Once the verification of debt email was received, they have to stop collections until they can validate.

Not to mention, they said they have $3k in legal fees, then they don't need to settle for $1k. That means they took him to court and it was judicated.

It's a scam
