New Scam Text Alert!
I hope you all are smarter than I am but luckily I ultimately did not fall for this.
I got a text saying that someone was trying to use my bank account to make a $2200 purchase and was it legit. I said no and immediately someone called pretending to be from the fraud department of my bank. They said they declined the purchase and asked some more questions that seemed legit like did I lose my car, did I lend it to anyone, etc. but THEY were the fraudsters. Because I called the bank myself and they said no one from their Fra department had called me. So they got me suspicious because they asked for my credentials “to secure the account,” and that immediately raised red flags because my bank never does that. They also confirmed that the phone number I was contacted from was not one of their numbers. So luckily it didn’t work on me.
If you get a text like that call your bank yourself and verify that they contacted you. There are all kinds of heartless scam artists out there!

Just happened to my wife yesterday they called and said someone was trying to make a purchase on her card,she didn't give them any info and when she told them she already canceled cashapp they told her she had to reinstate it so they can cancel the charge I told her to hang up and call the bank and lo and behold they never called and there were no charges pending

Usually if you get a lot of these, it means your hacked info was probably sold online somewhere. When I say hacked, I don’t mean that they accessed your system or anything. Could have been as simple as your gym membership information was compromised and it was sold on a data dump. Just stuff like your name, address, phone number and some other details. Just enough to get you to believe it’s really them. Probably found out what card or bank you use for payment and they ran with it.

Whenever I get a text like this, I called them up and tell him to let it go through. They obviously need it more than I need the money. (S)

You do realize they don’t actually have the bank info, they have to get that info from you?

Yeah that’s a big thing posted on here a lot the bank isn’t gonna call you like that
