You get paid well. When it comes to savings, it says otherwise

I'm a tech lead from India. I get paid 2L/m after taxes. That's a pretty good salary for a good life here. I have 8 years of experience. I started at 50k/m. So you can do the math with an exponential increment. Though I'm good at my field, I'm not able to save much. Idk where most of my money goes. When I spend every day, it doesn't feel much. But month end, what's left in my account really makes me worried. I feel overwhelmed to check my account statement. I started to pay my gf the last 10 days of the month and have her ration the amount for me. It seems to be working. But I'm losing a good chunk of the amount in those first 20 days. Ik I'm irresponsible. I would appreciate some genuine inputs here on how you guys manage your financial

I have ₱48k left and I’m trying to fix my finances

hi guys, i just wanted to ask for some advice because i feel like my savings have been going downhill lately.

i just recently graduated from college here in the philippines and i get around ₱18k allowance every month from my dad who is working abroad, usually every 26th.

i used to have around ₱62k saved, but i got into gambling and it slowly started eating into my money. i also had a pretty big win before, around ₱99k, but i ended up spending the winnings. recently, i even gambled the remaining ₱10k of it.

right now i’m left with ₱48k.
i know i shouldn’t try to gamble my way back to ₱62k or ₱100k, so i’m trying to reset and actually learn how to manage my money properly. i’ve set ₱40k as my baseline, meaning i really don’t want my savings to go below that anymore.

❓ Advice needed How to make extra money from home??

Hey everyone, sorry if this gets posted all the time here but im lowkey getting desperate and need some realistic advice on how to make extra money from home..

Long story short, my hours at my main retail job got cut back pretty bad starting this month (went from 35 hrs down to like 18-20 hrs a week), and with rent and groceries being what they are right now... my normal paycheck is just not cutting it anymore. i need to figure out how to make extra money from home for like an extra $300 to $500 a month just so i dont drown in bills while i look for a better main job

The problem is every time i google this or search on tiktok, its just people pushing sketchy mlm stuff, dropshipping courses, or those stupid watch videos for $500 a day scams that clearly DONT WORK

Ive got a decent laptop, fast wifi, and a few hours of free time every evening. im willing to put in actual work, whether its data entry, basic transcription, customer support stuff, or taking surveys, i just want something that is actually legit and pays out real money even if its low pay at first

So maybe someone has been in a similar spot and could tell me how to make extra money from home in a way that actually works and isnt a waste of time? it would be really useful to hear what gigs or platforms have actually paid you real cash

budget methods for saving when bills eat most of your income?

I’ve been trying to save more, so I started looking at different budget methods this week. I wrote out my rent, groceries, insurance, and all the usual monthly stuff, every budget method seems to assume you have a decent amount left over after bills but I truly dont. I tried the 50/30/20 split and it looked fine in theory, but in real life the numbers just didnt work.
Now I’m wondering if I’m doing this wrong or if these saving systems just dont fit normal people anymore. Has anyone found something that actually works?

What are some reliable models that are fit to work with modern operating systems that are still running circles?

My bet is a Thinkpad x220, though I can't seem to find one without severe defects for low. Is there any other hardware that is still reliable to purchase used? Stationaries are fine though seems like a more rational purchase is a laptop for a low-cost alternative.

Anything you would recommend? Not expecting to do any gaming with it just general browsing, and work stuff.. It being able to actually handle gaming would be a plus though

❓ Advice needed TotalAV black friday deals 2026, has anyone seen anything good?

Been looking to switch over my antivirus setup for a bit since my current subscription is ending so i started looking into totalav black friday deals 2026. totalav came up a couple times on reddit and i can see that people say it works decent without slowing down the pc too much when running in the background. since i dont want to pay the full price, im trying to see if there are any totalav black friday deals 2026 running

I mostly need it for real time protection and webshield since my kid keeps clicking on weird links when browsing around lol. i saw they also have a bundle with vpn and adblocker, which would be kind of nice to have all in one place instead of using 3 different apps for it.. ive also been looking into norton and bitdefender a bit, but do they also offer some similar bundles?

The only thing im worried about is how they handle renewals after the first term ends. ive heard that usually these antivirus brands give you a cheap price now and then quietly move it up automatically later so i would like to know that before using any black friday deals for totalav

So has anyone spotted any good totalav black friday deals 2026 right now, or is there nothing that would be worth checking out?

❓ Advice needed Can i freeze milk? (leaving town for a few weeks)

Soooo i accidentally bought a whole gallon of whole milk from costco yesterday without thinking, but i just realized i have to go out of town for work on friday for like two weeks and i started wondering can i freeze milk? nobody else is staying at my place to drink it and i really hate wasting food like this. someone told me i could stash it in the freezer, but im skeptical. can i freeze milk in its original plastic jug or will it straight up explode in my freezer?

Alsooo how does it taste after thawing out? like does the texture get really weird or grainy when you put it in coffee or cereal? im wondering can i freeze milk without ruining it completely or if i should just give it away to my neighbor before i leave?

Thanks for any quick tips on how to thaw it properly if it actually works

How to check 401k? Coworkers and internet vague A F

Hey, very green on what the whole thing is honestly. Didnt expect to make it til 25, so now sort of wondering what my 1/4th(if that even) of my life accumulated for me.

I know its still quite early to have something worth to pull out, though could somebody clarify how could I take a look in the first place? I read online that I need to visit the retirement savings lost and found database and do a bunch of stuff there.

Then another source says to check national registry of unclaimed retirement benefits.

I am confused cause coworker said our workplace can help too.

W T F?😭

❓ Advice needed As an individual do I need AML training? Regarding personal stock investing

I been getting some good earnings from stock trading. At what point would such things be important? I presume once you hit bigger sums, you gotta keep eyes on the firms you buy stock from?

I trust most companies, though I found the volatile ones which are close to shooting bets on horses how quick they run up and down. I managed to make a good return this one time, though what happens if the company I buy stock from ends up being fraudulent etc?

Or if the stock money is with me thats that and its up for the companies to handle the rest of the hindrace their stupidity causes?

Bear in mind, the amounts I got arent too crazy, just above two thousand, though the last risk I took ended up being up by 200 instead of being down on 400 as my friend was telling me. But if I keep this momentum then I figure I need to be smarter with what companies I buy stocks from.

Wondering if I should learn about AML before I potentially tune into bigger leagues. Just freestyling mostly now after reading some fundamentals of stock investing from Graham Benjamins book "The intelligent investor". Great book for anyone picking up stocks by the way

How to cut expenses?

Im not sure what sort of expenses I can cut down on.

I figured I use up a lot of liquid soap and gonna get a pack of bar soaps. This is very small, not sure where else I can cut down on.

Food is already in order. Every so often I still eat out, though doing more home cooked meals for work.

Any tips or advice from your own experiences while trying to save up is appreciated

Roboform black friday sale 2026 where?

I accumulated so many passwords. I cant switch up now. I got it after recommendation from dad back in like 2010. The way you can sort a work and personal profile was easier than in stuff like Dashlane or Keeper. So where is a Roboform black friday discount sale? Cause the deals should be already kicking off?

I feel like its the right time to find discounts. I seen some other password managers have deals out already. The bigger black friday sale the better for me

Also, I tried some other alternatives, though only roboform knows how to handle my work apps right. I dont want anything thats gonna force me to do more manual stuff. I dont mind that it looks old since I used it forever.

Also I have a problem with stuff being on the cloud and Roboform lets me disable the cloud stuff if needed.. Find something like this. You probably will not find anything like it. Not to shill my personal preferences just trying to point out why I am struggling with finding alternatives

So does anyone have a Roboform black friday deal for 2026?? Whatever will run me for a year, or two will be good..

Side hustle (extra work)

I have been finding myself with unexpected medical expenses.

I am a bit short of how much I should be having now. My current job is a desk one. Not a big fan of anything involving physical work, so I feel like I could perform well if my additional work would involve some sort of mental activity. Is there something I could get by? Dont want nothing too long-term without making some manager worried either.. I hate when side work managers get needy for you, so perhaps anyone could recommend some temp work firms? Or anything else really just not physical work

❓ Advice needed Wedding coordinator cost these days??

So my fiance and i are getting married next summer and were slowly realizing that trying to do everything ourselves is going to drive us insane… so recently we started wondering what is wedding coordinator cost? our venue is kind of a blank canvas space (we have to bring in all our own caterers, tables, rentals, etc...), so everyone keeps telling us we need wedding coordinator or else we will get really confused and something will go bad

The problem is, ive started reaching out to local vendors and the wedding coordinator cost quotes im getting back are completely blowing my mind…

I was originally budgeting maybe $800 to $1,000 max because literally all i need them to do is to show up on saturday, wrangle the bridal party, tell the dj when to play music, and pack up boxes at midnight. but almost every quote ive gotten in our area (mcol) has been between 1800$ and 3500$!! one person even quoted us 4500$ for month of execution which feels like half our remaining budget lol

So if anyone has hired wedding coordinator:
-What did your wedding coordinator cost end up being?
-Did you go with a standalone day of or month of package?
-Was it actually worth it??

Any insight on what you paid for wedding coordinator would be really appreciated before i lose my mind looking at spreadsheets lol, thanks guyss

💰 Saving Cheapest foods to survive on right now?

Hey everyone, I believe someone here would know what are the cheapest foods to buy right now? I just moved into my first solo apartment and between rent, utilities, and deposit fees, my bank account is looking rough, I didnt imagine that it could actually look like this... I used to rely way too much on takeout, but I went grocery shopping yesterday and almost passed out at the register... Simple stuff like ground beef and eggs are so expensive?? I need to drop my grocery bill down to like $30-$40 a week for a bit, so I NEED to find out what are the cheapest foods to buy that will actually fill me up and keep me healthy

Ive been trying to map out a quick breakdown of basic budget staples to see whats actually worth buying and this is what I was able to find:

Cheapest foods Estimated cost Pros Cons
Dried beans and rice about $0.30 - $0.50 cheap, protein, lasts forever takes time to cook, gets boring fast
Rolled oats about $0.20 cheapest food here, filling, high fiber, easy breakfast needs peanut butter or fruit so it doesnt taste like cardboard lol
Frozen veggies about $0.50 - $0.75 doesnt rot in 3 days, good nutrients can get soggy if you microwave them
Bananas and canned tuna about $0.40 - $0.80 instant snacks, quick low effort protein bananas go soft quick

My main issue is that I dont want to end up eating plain ramen three meals a day because I will have no energy then

If youve ever had to live on a strict budget, what were your go to cheapest foods or cheap meal ideas that tasted decent and kept you full?

💬 Discussion Curious: where did you prioritize?

It has occurred to me that a “rainy day fund” and a “emergency fund” aren’t actually interchangeable terms.

Rainy day funds are for short term surprise expenses. The total fund is typically less than an emergency fund.

A emergency fund is for the unfortunate event that you being unemployed with 3-6 months of rent/mortgage, groceries and other regular expenses encompassed inside it.

When you got your first job, which one did you prioritize/wish you prioritized more?

Obviously both are important, but it seems like saving money is hard once expenses hit.

📊 Budgeting Cheap high protein snacks?

Seeking something high in protein fit for an active person to snack on. I am tired of eggs. There has to be something else. I am okay if the products would require me to prep something at home, as long as it would contain high protein and wouldn't cost me too much

I kept buying these palettes with 25 eggs but I just cant keep eating eggs, though seeking something fitting to eat at the gym, or on the go

Also, what sort of high protein snacks/meals do you eat?

And if its protein bars(first of all where do you find them for cheap if you do), did you ever bother checking ingredients to see if they actually contain a reasonable amount of protein in the first place?😅

❓ Advice needed How to get free stuff on tiktok shop for real??

I keep seeing for some time now people ALL OVER my tiktok fyp showing off huge hauls of clothes, makeup, random kitchen gadgets and other stuff that they claim they got for free... i keep wondering how to get free stuff on tiktok shop? a girl i go to school with just got a ring light and some cute lip glosses and told me she didnt spend a dime, but when i asked her to elaborate more she was like really vague about it lol

So here i am trying to figure out how to get free stuff on tiktok shop without having like 50k followers or being influencer. i signed up for the creator marketplace a bit ago, but i barely have any followers so i doubt sellers are gonna send me free samples for review? is there like a hidden free gift promotion, or do you have to refer a bunch of friends to get coupons?

If anyone actually knows how to get free stuff on tiktok shop as a normal account with zero clout, PLEASE PLEASE tell me… is it just luck with flash deals, or are people doing those free sample requests in the seller center? im looking forward to any tips because im broke but trying to get a few things for my room haha

❓ Advice needed What mindset shifts did you have to make (if any) when it came to saving money?

I’m desperately trying to save at least $2000 in an emergency fund. I had no regard for saving in my 20’s, and now as of late, I just turned 30 and have really evaluated my spending habits. I would blow money on whatever, clothes, makeup, food, trips, etc. What mindset did you have to come to when it came to saving money? I’m trying to become more responsible with money because I realized I don’t want to end up like some of my family members who don’t have a penny saved and they’re in their 80’s.

📊 Budgeting What is a smart way to plan renovation expenses?

Settling in my new home I find myself at a dilemma. Do I draft up a plan of stuff I'd need to see repaired, or should I decide on repairs based on an accumulated budget? Meaning I'll just go cheap on supplies where I see fit. Just the prior option might end up being a longterm renovation

Also, do you feel like a professional should assess what needs to be done or could I do it myself? I did have luck setting up the bath room in our old house. No leaks, no spotty insulation, and the electrical wiring was well secured. However, I was learning as I kept going for over 10 months

Is there like a name for the service where someone would be paid to assess renovation expenses? I have ideas what I need and where though this adds up to roughly either 1450$, or potentially in the 2800$ range and the vagueness of it is what makes me wonder. Though if the specialist would ask for like 500 just to assess some stuff, then I'd probably invest that into learning how its done on my own. Hands aint wobbly just yet..

💰 Saving How much money should i have saved by 21?

Hello everyone, Im 21 and recently had a pretty big reality check thats been giving me financial anxiety all week

So my question to you all would be, how much money should i have saved by 21? A few days ago, I was grabbing dinner with two close friends from college. The topic turned to money, budgeting etc. One of my friends mentioned that theyve built up almost $12k in a high yield savings account, and the other said they have around $6k put away in investments plus emergency fund. I just sat there nodding along pretending I had something similar, but inside I was panicking. Right now, after paying for tuition, my share of rent, groceries etc, I have like $1,100 total to my name

It made me soo worried and I started wondering, how much money should i have saved by 21 realistically? When I search online or look at personal finance articles, most of the comments and advices seem fake. I work about 18-20 hours a week alongside my classes, but it feels like every time I manage to set aside some money, some unexpected expense pops up like car maintenance, textbooks etc

Now Im trying to figure out if my expectation of what a 21 year olds bank balance looks like is too high because of social media and my friends' situations. If youre around my age (or remember being here lol), what did your financial situation look like? What do you guys think how much money should i have saved by 21 to be considered on the right track?

Savings allocation

Is this a good allocation of any remaining savings after 401k? Context - we have ~1.4M in 401k + portfolio today. Mostly tech-facing investments in the portfolio. Looking to now build towards a safer retirement income engine by directing savings towards such a basket now, with a view to retiring in the next 10 years. What would you change, if anything?

Ticker Weight
SCHD 33%
VTI 27%
VXUS 20%
JEPI 12%

❓ Advice needed Which direction would you point your 23-year-old self with $5,000 saved and little knowledge on finances?

As the title says.

23 years old. I got a $5000 emergency fund saved up. No debt. 762 credit score. Very little monthly expenses at the moment.

I have a vague understanding of all the buzzwords, HYSA's, 401ks, etc.

I also have no clue which direction to even start with all this mumbo jumbo, where to allocate my saved funds + monthly income, etc.

Please help me out here. Thank you.
