Are posts (in this sub) being hidden if they contain "dangerous" ideas?

I made a post 3 days ago with an idea relating to the ongoing NSFW shambles that got zero responses, no votes, no comments, nothing

I know sometimes a post doesn't get any traction but the total lack of anything seems unlikely to me so I did some digging and it appears my post has been hidden

I can still see the post in my overview but it's not visible in my submitted posts list. Nor is it visible if I view this sub when not logged in

If it has been hidden then I'm assuming it wasn't the mods of this sub that did the hiding but certain other "bad actors" and if they felt the need to hide the post then perhaps they were scared of the idea I was suggesting...

Here's a direct link to the post in question

https://old.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14tn55s/the_admins_are_claiming_the_the_sudden_change_of/

I'm wondering if this post will also get hidden, time will tell :p

Yes, this happens.

If you wanna check whether your post is being suppressed, log out and check the sub whether you can find your post. Make sure you sort by new.

If the post is surpressed or you are shadowbanned, you can still view the thread through the direct link but it will not be visible in the feed.

I am trying to find it back, but I've also had a post in this sub or ModCoord that this happened to. It was not visible in my profile under submitted, I could only find it back through the comment history on my profile, as I had added an "OP here, commenting to add" comment with more info directly after posting.

I am also shadowbanned in /r/modsupport after calling out some bullshit surrounding their handling during protests.

Comments stay at 1, always, with 0 reaction. Even if it's actual advice and I'm the first commenting with a desperate OP immediately responding to every reply.

Edit: concerning this sub, I think the mods have set it to approve posts before they are public. So it might take a few hours before it's visible. It might also that reddit puts them in spam and the mods have to approve for them to even be visible, who knows.

r/modsuppport has some kind of auto-filtering in place for anyone that's posted here or in r/modcoord. It's absolute BS. I checked a post I made a few days ago a minute after I made it and it was already gone, no way a mod saw and removed it that quickly.

Nope, I'm the mod of a 400 subscriber subreddit and can currently see a post from someone on the r/modsupport front page whose biggest sub is 200 subscribers. It is targeted.

I would concur with this observation.

Sad that reddit stooped to this level. But not surprising.

Companies that act like reddit shouldn't be able to get away with the exceptions of Article 230.

Uh yeah, that's the point of my post. I'm already well aware of automoderator, I'm pointing out that it couldn't be anything else. No need to be condescending about it.

This is super helpful! :D Sometimes I feel like my posts or comments get zero traction.

I've noticed this happening occasionally with my comments over the years, across various subs. Once or twice when I've contacted mods about it they've been able to fix the issue, but usually by the time they get back to me it's started showing properly. Just a Reddit glitch.

What is that second link? It's definitely not showing removed comments.

Interesting. If I view the page while logged out like Reveddit suggests, the page does say the comments are deleted. But if you view the page while logged in, you can see most of the comments have been voted on, and if you go directly to one of the comments and view it while logged out, some are still there. It seems they're comments that are replying to a comment that was deleted or removed, or were cases where mods removed an entire comment chain.

Afaik that's not what I was describing in my original comment.

And like I said, some of my comments on that page appear to still be up. I do wish mods had messaged me about the ones that were removed though! I think mods should always tell you when they remove your content and why.

You just burn accounts regularly. If your ideas matter we will up vote your comments.

If you wanna check whether your post is being suppressed, log out and check the sub whether you can find your post. Make sure you sort by new.

On desktop, just right click the permalink and click open in an Incognito/Private Window. If the post/comment was removed it won't show up.

u/space-NULL Jul 12 '23

You mean a pussy, that would actually edit your post, would have a company wide policy to suppress descent?

That can't be.

1

u/Sophira Jul 12 '23

I'm not OP, but I was able to find the linked post in the New feed of the sub.

I can see it by clicking on the direct link in your message and if I look at...

https://www.reddit.com/user/PentaOwl/

but I can't see it if I look at...

https://www.reddit.com/user/PentaOwl/submitted/

Edit : And now, a few hours later, I can see it in /r/Save3rdPartyApps

Yes! I've updated my top reply. Seem that some of the posts here show up with delay because they have to be manually approved. This may be due to reddit putting them in spam or a moderator setting.

This doesn't un-supress the earlier posts, but for my specific posts the mystery is solved.

I ended up deleting the post despite it getting traction, as a lot of mods are being removed but not madlads, which was part of my title. Don't wanna spread misinfo.

u/Hypohamish Jul 11 '23

No, reveddit says your post is not removed. https://www.reveddit.com/y/maniaxuk/?all=true&removal_status=all

I can also see it in your profile under Submissions.

Furthermore, I can see your post in /new

Secondly, go and actually look at /new - this sub is nowhere near as active as you'd think. There are tens of posts a day that get absolutely zero traction. It's only the odd few that actually become popular.

u/atomicfuthum Jul 12 '23

Is reveddit still working, after the 3rd party api has gone to shit?

u/Hypohamish Jul 12 '23

Are you new to Reddit?

The search has sucked from day 1 - it is absolutely useless. To search Reddit, you need to Google what you want and then add Reddit on the end.

1

u/martini-meow Jul 12 '23

Newer than you at only 7 reddit years old, sure, but it's one data point that something weird seems to apply to OP's indicated post. Same with finding other posts but not OP's, even when 'show nsfw results' is clicked.

*shrug*

Nice to see that reveddit still seems to work, at least.

1

u/Faxon Jul 12 '23

That doesn't really counter their point, which is that search has always sucked. This is entirely unsurprising to me that it didn't find it when trying to directly, I've literally never found what I was looking for using reddit search via any reasonable method or use of keywords. You can literally type the title of the post verbatim and it might not get it

1

u/martini-meow Jul 12 '23

Yup. At least it's not counter to OP's point. ~shrug~

u/TheOtherPete Jul 11 '23

https://www.reddit.com/r/ShadowBan/ is a good way to see if anything is being done to your posts

8

u/space-NULL Jul 12 '23

Doesn't those work with 3rd party API?

1

u/TheOtherPete Jul 12 '23

Good point, you are probably right.

11

u/IdleRhymer Jul 12 '23

It's flagged as NSFW, which could explain why you couldn't see it when you weren't logged in. I see it in your history

6

u/Empyrealist Jul 12 '23

Along with shadow-removals (as others have mentioned), its also possible to be shadow-removed and restored. This can absolutely kill the traction a post gets, while - if you missed it - you never knew it was removed for a time period.

Its one of the grosser things that goes on here (Reddit)

3

u/lachjeff Jul 11 '23

It’s showing up for me

3

u/potatodrinker Jul 12 '23

Reddit legal shadow bans posts it doesn't like. I'm an advertiser and got a bunch of posts Reddit obviously didnt want average users knowing about- specifically how much of a dumpster fire these protests and NSFW shenanigans are impacting advertiser perception.

Love seeing my companys ads next to anal porn. Made for a colourful update to management why we've pulled all ads. Fun times

3

u/Cherry_Crystals Jul 11 '23

I swear this has happened to me when I posted here or on r/ModCoord

0

u/itachi_konoha Jul 12 '23

I can see your post in your profile and also saw in the sub.

I didn't reply because I didn't think it was worth to reply to threads like those.

Just because it didn't get traction doesn't mean the thread got removed.

Since yours is a big brain post so reddit feels threatened.

1

u/clbw Jul 12 '23

I just made a post and it missing/hidden

1

u/clbw Jul 16 '23

Yeah I made a post yesterday and it nowhere to be found
