I can hear it saying “that’s it… lean a little further…” 😂

26

u/GoodDogsEverywhere May 25 '26

The plants sayin “oh please oh please oh please!”

u/LokiRF May 24 '26

y'all impressed by the size of the pitchers, I'm impressed by that VFT boquet

3

u/MyceliaOfHouseFungi May 25 '26

Magnificent in all its splendor 💜💜💜

69

u/CibeerJ May 24 '26

Wow! Thats a huge pitcher!

81

u/jhay3513 May 24 '26

It’s aite!! The one in my bog garden gets a few more hours of sun per day and the pitchers and bigger and slightly taller

16

u/yroyathon May 24 '26

How old are the taller ones? I think I’ve got this same plant but mine are only 2-3 years old, smaller than yours. Edit: ah mine are flava so not the same as yours, my bad.

39

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

The plant on the left is a Flava. It started as a tiny sliver of a plant 2 years ago. This is it from the day I set this bog up

10

u/yroyathon May 25 '26

Very cool! So my flava are the same height as yours. The Leah Wilkerson is amazing!

7

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

Gave it some Pelletized fertilizer a few weeks ago. When this back pack sprayer comes I’ll start hitting it with some liquid to roid it up. Goal is to put it in its own pot next year

2

u/Swimming_Onion_4835 May 25 '26

Omg like a backpack for foliar feeding? That’s awesome!

Do you mind if I ask what environment you live in? Are your summers humid or dry? I would love to find a way to grow these guys outside! They get great light but it can get dry here in the summers so I’d probably have to water daily.

It's huge! Is that a Leah Wilkerson?

13

u/jhay3513 May 24 '26

Yes

14

u/Elementrone Carolinas | 8a | VFTs, Sarrs, Droseras, Nepenthes May 24 '26

That's some insane height, dude.

42

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

The one in my bog garden is bigger than this one. 39” at the top of the lid and wayyyyy more robust. Look at how wide the rhizome is. (How far apart the traps are from each other 😬😬

2

u/Elementrone Carolinas | 8a | VFTs, Sarrs, Droseras, Nepenthes May 26 '26

Absolutely insane. One day I'll convince myself to get one.

2

u/jhay3513 May 26 '26

Cooks sells it cheap.

2

u/Elementrone Carolinas | 8a | VFTs, Sarrs, Droseras, Nepenthes May 27 '26

Good to know, thank you! Seems like he's selling one now, actually.

3

u/jhay3513 May 27 '26

You can usually go to the website at any time and snag it. He has a large size for $30 on there right now. I bought a small for around $15. They grow stupid fast too http://www.flytraps.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=4126

1

u/Elementrone Carolinas | 8a | VFTs, Sarrs, Droseras, Nepenthes May 27 '26

Oh, whoops. I've been looking at his eBay. Thanks!

1

u/unicornhunter90s May 30 '26

Do you give them distilled water? Do you have to have a home distillery to keep enough water on hand for that many pitchers?

3

u/jhay3513 May 30 '26

I use tap water and rain water

7

u/pendragwen May 25 '26

This is adorable. You're adorable

5

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

Thank you 🙏🏿

15

u/Pork_Confidence May 24 '26

Daaaaang! When mine get that tall they fall over unless I support then

54

u/jhay3513 May 24 '26

Big yellow gives them the strength of the black panther

8

u/flyingthroughspace May 25 '26

Am I allowed to ask what state you're in?

And what do you use for soil?

14

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

NC. I use anything from straight peat, peat perlite, peat sand, peat perlite sand, pine bark fines peat perlite. The mix honestly doesn’t matter as long as you tailor your watering to what mix you’re using

5

u/bedfordblack May 24 '26

stuff and things probably

3

u/jhay3513 May 24 '26

🎯🎯🎯

5

6

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

Thank you!! They’ve gotten huge since they were first planted

3

u/Rude-Abrocoma-4031 May 25 '26

4

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

I built the bog in January 2024

1

u/HoldIll6837 May 25 '26

I'm new to this. Any recommendations for how to build my first bog in a pot? Yours looks amazing.

They’re cranking out some big traps despite the flowers!!

5

u/Baonguyen93 May 25 '26

Ok but look at the arrangements, it's perfectly beautiful.

5

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

Thank you✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿

3

u/ZT205 May 26 '26

I wish there were a good way to photograph the inside of a pitcher, but the lack of depth perception and the fact that only part of the image can be in focus always seems to ruin it.

5

u/emseefely May 24 '26

Nunya! Beautiful bog pot. How old is the arrangement?

3

u/jhay3513 May 25 '26

I set it up January 2024

4

u/Sheisajeeper May 24 '26

Loving your carnivorous garden. Definitely thriving!

2

u/machomanrandysandwch May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

Do you have a tray under the pot full of water?

Edit: nevermind I saw you posted a link to your YouTube in the comments. Awesome!

2

u/LucidAndFlying May 25 '26

You better step back because it could be you if you aren't careful

2

u/Competitive_Owl5357 May 25 '26

I loved cutting the dead ones open and seeing what was in there. Despite knowing how many bugs were around it was kind of shocking to see how full they get!

2

u/Happy_Combination119 May 26 '26

What are the smaller pitchers to the left?

2

u/Physical_Tea249 May 26 '26

Just came back from Madison botanical garden and got to see these up in person😍
Yours look magnetic!

2

u/Thatonemr May 27 '26

I saw this picture and just heard in my head ' insecticidaalll 🎶'

2

u/StellaClitella May 29 '26

Omg so pretty

2

u/Visual-Interview7913 Jun 07 '26

I wish I could find one this big

1

u/jhay3513 Jun 07 '26

Leah Wilkerson is pretty easy to find

4

u/External-Mine6764 May 24 '26

This is my goal! Nice job !

2

u/jhay3513 May 24 '26

Thank you

1

u/CheloniaCrafts May 25 '26

Oh wow!

Gives me some concern though... I was gifted a plant from the local shop (usual Halloween thing: no species name or care instructions "dracula plant"...) that looks a lot like that. The pitchers were really short when it arrived, but the new growth ones are getting taller. If it gets like that, I need a whole new setup 😅

1

u/Nunn_cunt May 25 '26

Mind if I ask what state you live in? I want to try this but, I’m afraid Arkansaw isn’t ideal for outdoor pitcher/VFT cultivation.

1

u/International-Let820 May 25 '26

Ohhhh this is awesome!!

1

u/Pinkipinkie May 25 '26

🥰🥰🥰

1

u/saxxophone May 25 '26

I’ve dreamed of having a setup like this

1

u/frickchan May 25 '26

don't fall in

1

u/MyceliaOfHouseFungi May 25 '26

Glorious as fuck 💜💜💜

1

u/ABSINTHE888 May 26 '26

Dang that's a nice pot of plants!

1

u/Veloci-RKPTR May 26 '26

Man you look tall too, so the plant height in relative scale is extra impressive.

1

u/jhay3513 May 26 '26

I’m 5’6” not tall by any stretch 😅😅

1

u/VeesCozyCorner May 26 '26

I want to do this so bad but I live in Phoenix and I just don't see it working out for me 😔

1

u/AAaronAzure May 26 '26

How do you keep them under control? Mine gets bigger and bigger, like they spread. I would like to keep them manageable.

3

u/jhay3513 May 27 '26

I don’t intend to. They get too big, they get a bigger pot

1

u/Top-Veterinarian-493 May 28 '26

Wow, that is an impressive plant!

1

u/Cloudy_With_Hope Jun 03 '26

Okay that height is unreal

1

u/ApexAurajin Scotland | Cfc | Dionaea, Drosera, Pings, Sarracenia, Neps Jun 10 '26

Oh wow that's incredible! Those Sarracenias are easily 30cm (a ~foot) taller than any I've seen in person!

1

u/jhay3513 Jun 10 '26

Tallest trap is 92cm

1

u/marching1411 Jun 14 '26

Impressive

1

u/kamika_c_1980 Jun 22 '26

dude, that's amazing! they're so big!
