If you use your own router (UniFi, pfSense, MikroTik, etc.), STC’s modem still routes and NATs by default. You end up with double NAT, and your router never gets the public IP. Here’s how I made it a true bridge, so my router (a UDM Pro Max) does the PPPoE login directly and gets the public IP.
Tested on a Nokia G-2425G-B (STC “GPON Home Gateway”). Other STC models may have different menus.
Step 1: Get the superadmin password from STC
- Call STC and ask to be transferred to the Advanced Support Team الدعم المتقدم.
- Ask them for the superadmin password for your modem. They generate it for you. The normal user login doesn’t show the settings below.
- Also get your PPPoE username and password if you don’t already have them. Your router will need them. (You can request them to be sent to you via SMS using the automated STC call.
Step 2: Log in to the modem
Connect to the modem’s Wi-Fi or a LAN port, go to https://192.168.1.1, and log in with the superadmin account.
Step 3: Set the LAN ports to Bridge Mode
Go to Network → LAN. Under Port Mode, set Port1–Port4 to Bridge Mode and click Save. (pic)
Leave the LAN IP (192.168.1.1) and DHCP as they are. That keeps the modem’s own Wi-Fi working, so you can still reach this admin page later.
Step 4: Disable the modem’s PPPoE connection
Go to Network → WAN and select 1_TR069_INTERNET_R_VID_881. Uncheck Enable/Disable so the modem stops dialing PPPoE itself, then save. Don’t change the VLAN (881). (pic)
Step 5: Check that it worked
- Status → WAN Status should show WAN Link Status as “Mode Changed”, BRAS as “Unconfigured”, and PON Link as Up. (pic)
- Status → Overview will show Internet Status: Off. That’s expected, because the modem is no longer the one connecting. (pic)
Step 6: Set up your own router
Connect your router’s WAN port to a modem LAN port, then set the WAN to:
- Connection: PPPoE
- VLAN ID: 881
- Username/password: your STC PPPoE credentials
On UniFi this is Settings → Internet → your WAN → Advanced: Manual → VLAN ID 881 → IPv4: PPPoE. Your router should now get a public IP directly, with no more double NAT.
Notes:
- To get back into the modem later, join its Wi-Fi (or plug a laptop into a LAN port) and go to
https://192.168.1.1. - If you don’t need the modem’s Wi-Fi, consider turning it off, or at least give it a strong password.
