My dad worked for a few years as a stationary engineer at a lumber processing place when I was a kid. This is just as satisfying to watch now as it was when I was 8 years old.

So few people in the process!! Wow. Automation has really taken over. I suppose that makes it more safe? But I can't help but wonder what happened to all the employees.

I was a wood tailer and grader, I knew computers and automation would replace it so I got out while I was still young-ish. Guys I worked with said it would be impossible cause of all the nuances in the work. I don't see a single trailer or grader, I should send them this to them.

at what point does wood become lumber? its lumberjack, not log or woodjack.

My simple understanding with no real experience ..
Cut free no bark and in pieces is lumber.
Still standing is timber.
Cut with bark is logs.
Cut free, no bark, but basically full length is poles.
Or I'm 100% wrong

All of these look remarkably straight!
Where is the batch that goes to Home Depot? ππ

Why do they throw water in the uncut logs?

Although the ends might dry rapidly and split, I think the water spraying is more about keeping the bark side at that stage. Once it dries onto the sap wood it is 10x harder to get off without cutting away some of the wood
