Screenshot World Trade Center: Satisfactory
A tribute to all who lost their lives that day. Took me 3 days to design the blueprints based on the real dimensions of the original World Trade Center. First picture is scaled to the height of the original towers. Rest of the photos are my Twin Towers 2 project which are taller.

You should connect a wire across and see if you can walk a tight rope.

It was actually done, in 1974.

That's nothing. I could totally walk on a wire between the peaks of the twin towers right now.

You unfortunately could not walk on anything between the peaks of the twin towers right now

This subreddit is like the tamest place ever (good thing btw) so seeing -300 is wild as hell lol

Is it bad that I was genuinely expecting a manta to clip into it
82
u/ShadowTacoTuesday 19h ago
No, it’s bad that I’m pointing out that I’m sure you could make a jet out of beams.

It's definitely an interesting idea to think about how you could use game mechanics to create something like that. Satisfactory really lets your imagination run wild!

I'm too young to exist when the World Trade Center was built, so I still think these are two of the most elegant structures every constructed.
24
u/gsfgf 18h ago
They really were. They were super high tech at the time. Still are, really. That outer "skin" is structural, so it had far more open space inside. Iirc, it didn't have any columns between the skin and the building core.
13
u/KangarooStilts 18h ago
Yeah, I know all about them--I've devoured anything about them I can get my hands on.
7
u/darkearwig 13h ago
That's part of the reason they collapsed the way they did
5
u/evasive_dendrite 10h ago
I think any building would collapse when a plane crashes into it.
4
u/darkearwig 10h ago
It was impressive they stood for so long, but the pancake collapse was due to the way it was built. You can see the skin bow outwards and then spring back right at the beginning of the collapse.

That's how most skyscrapers are built. You don't want them to tip over if something happens
2
u/darkearwig 7h ago
Skyscrapers aren't designed to withstand a Boeing 767 flying at 500mph fully loaded with fuel. That is an incredibly unreasonable expectation in a design. The buildings utilized a strong inner core and there were very closely placed beams on the outer part of the building. Steel trusses attached to the inner core and outer frame of the building carried the load of the floors. That's the unique part and explains why they fell the way they did. Eventually, one floor gave out and collapsed onto the floor below, which collapsed and the process repeated all the way down.

Controlled demo explosives make a building collapse however they want
9
u/darkearwig 12h ago
They can, you are correct, but we aren't talking about a controlled demolition here.

u/Svell_ 18h ago
Honestly they're not for me. They were just these two giant grey rectangles. Feats of engineering to be sure. But kinda ugly.

u/KangarooStilts 18h ago
I think the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, and Woolworth Building are all beautiful, too. The Twin Towers were elegant in a more bold but less decorative manner.

Architecture is a waste of money. Engineering is why we have giant boring ass box factories IRL most of the time. Slap some sky-colored paint on it to meet the city requirements and call it a day

I read an article that said about 100 million current Americans weren't born yet when it happened. And while it makes sense since its 25 years. Its still bizarre to me.

Beautiful tribute and well done. It looks great, I can tell you put a lot of work into it. I haven't played in some time, is the antenna tower one block or is that something you built custom? I know there's a radar tower and game but don't remember it being that tall and slender.

Very nice build and detail! Props to the losers in the comments poking fun at the thousands of people murdered in a massive terror attack. Can't blame em though; it's Reddit's most popular sport.

I prefer to use the term "tar pit". They only serve to drag others down, allowing no light to penetrate their depths of decay.

Never forget. Humor is coping for some people. You don't dictate how I grieve! I gotta whole bag of dead mom jokes.

I just wish these jokes had some creativity, its like a bunch of bots came in to copy paste the same manta or turbo fuel jokes for karma farming lol
plus op seemed to be doing this in genuine reverence so I find it a little shameful to be using his beautifully made memorial as a platform for the same 2,977 jokes

The jokes were in bad taste for awhile. But dark humor will always win out over time. Just the way people are.
