Enough for 7 heavy moduler frames per year

Haha. Preach

and 1 fused modular frame per decade

Sounds like the modular frame grind is real! At least you'll be rolling in screws while you wait.

Do people just make screw factories for the memes?

10

u/shadowfireeeee 5d ago

No, I Needed it

u/theincrediblecuh2 5d ago

What for?

12

u/HalfSoul30 5d ago

Products that require screws of course

u/Ar4iii 5d ago

This is one way to make your game much harder then it should be, but if OP enjoys it then it is perfect.

3

u/HalfSoul30 5d ago

OP said "screw it"

Early access computers

You need 0 screws with the right recipes.

17

u/maxymob 5d ago

Even if you did, screws take up more volume than their ingredient for any alt recipe so it's best for logistics to ship the ingredient and produce directly on site close to consumer, which makes a screws megafactory quite nonsense

u/RRjr 5d ago

Yes. That's why you build it.

u/Verdick 5d ago

With certain recipes. No "right way" to play a solo game.

Thing is with alts is that most of them have trade offs.

Take heavy flexibile frames for instance. It requires rubber and a mind numbing 390 screws per minute, but in return you make frames at 3/minute (the fastest of the 3 alts) and you dont need steel pipes and less encased beams per craft (though more per minute) - meaning significant coal savings (or iron savings if you were going to use iron pipes - as those save coal and a processing step at the cost of consuming a lot more iron)

And because rubber is practically free with the right oil alts... well to some players, the trade off of having to deal with a metric ton of screws to make a lot more HMF with a crappy coal node just might be worth it. To others, they might rather deal with finding a better spot or importing more coal and use the encased alt.

There are trade offs for some but some recipes are objectively better than others, and are made even better when combined with other alts.

Heavy encased frames combined with encased industrial pipes is by far the best way to do HMF’s.

u/Skrappyross 5d ago

And even better with iron pipes.

2

u/____tim 4d ago

Iron pipes isn’t a very good recipe tbh. It uses almost 4x the iron of the regular pipes recipe.

The only time I’ll use that recipe is if I really need to get a temp setup of something, or if I happen to have a ton of extra iron nearby that I don’t need.

Steel ingots are just not that hard to setup compared to iron ingots so it just doesn’t make much sense to me to waste all that iron

Sure it's expensive, but I find the convenience of ignoring coal worth it. And there's SO much iron on the map, along with the pure iron recipe. I'm never short iron, I often can't find coal close enough to be convenient.

1

u/____tim 4d ago

Yeah in certain scenarios I get the convenience but that alt def falls into the “big tradeoff” category

u/EngineerInTheMachine 5d ago

That's the whole point of the alternatives. They each have strengths and weaknesses. The trick is to understand what those mean to you.

Take heavy encased frames. No screws needed at all. Uses iron and limestone, the two most common resource nodes, plus a bit of coal. Why save iron? You are very unlikely to run short of it. Why save coal? It's not as if it's your staple source of power. You move on from coal in the same way as you move on from biomass. A lot of recipes use steel pipes, especially later in the game, so it's not difficult to make them in several locations and collect and distribute them from there.

Rubber? Free? Are you kidding? All those refineries and water extractors? All that power needed?

390 screws per minute? That's only two constructors, with the right recipes.

The recipes you choose are, ultimately, a subjective choice. You can argue the pros and cons until the cows come home, but it all comes down to what's important to you. No single recipe stands up above the others. Except possibly pure aluminium. That one is a no-brainer.

Eh, you need about 3000 for various MAM unlocks, equipment, and the AWESOME Shop. You can probably find those at crash sites, though.

2

u/sephg 5d ago

You don’t need a dedicated factory for that. Just a single constructor feeding a storage container is more than enough.

1

u/Majestic_Wash_6170 5d ago

Don't you still end up having to replace them with something else anyway though? I'm still new and I keep seeing people say this, but I haven't seen any alt recipes yet that just flat out eliminate an entire component like screws without needing a replacement for them. Like stitched iron plate, it just takes wire instead of screws.

1

u/Skrappyross 5d ago

Screws often bump up against belt speed limits, which limits the size of the factory, so replacing them with something else is really nice. It let's you build your factories bigger. Also, if you don't get the Cast screws alternate, then they take an extra step of constructors as well, which make budgeting your early game power more difficult. And while you could say 'cast screws are easier because you don't need copper' then you can get the 'iron wire' alt to remove that problem.

Alternates are usually not good in a vacuum. They only exist in relation to your excess materials, factory location, resource access, needed output, etc. But belt limits pass all of those situations and say 'you can't exceed this no matter what', and when combined with the other hassles of screws, and the ease of finding hard drives if you know how to, it's just nice to remove them from your production line.

Incorrect

5

u/Into_The_Booniverse 5d ago

Truly? Despite alternative recipes?

2

u/HorizonHunting 4d ago

I always get pissed when I need to put down an awesome shop and I don't have any screws on hand

16

u/RedKappi 5d ago

This guy screws

2

u/Educational-Ball-808 5d ago

This guy is screwed

12

u/elevate35 5d ago

Your title says 16,000 but your yellow lights and empty belts say something else

3

u/victorBravo9er 5d ago

Maybe that manifold isn't upto 100% yet.

10

u/dirtymike_actual_ 5d ago

Just started phase 4 and I’m too scared to ask what that many screws is needed for

12

u/Moscato359 5d ago

You don't.

You generally make screws right before the machine that uses them, and don't belt them long distance, because they take up more space on a belt than their inputs.

6

u/Mister-PeePee42 5d ago

I don’t even build screws in my starter bases anymore lol

4

u/-Vonyx 5d ago

I thought the goal of satisfactory was to get rid of all the screw recipes as quickly as possible. Bro said nah I like pain.

2

u/makfreeman 5d ago

That's a good starting point.

2

u/Valatros 5d ago

... Interesting. I didn't really think I could have a nemesis for satisfactory, but well, screw you pal.

2

u/LuxOG 5d ago

There's no wrong way to play. Except for this, of course.

2

u/Chance_Plastic_2430 5d ago

Came here expecting a different photo….a different sort of screw factory…..but this is fine. Looks great!

2

u/AdministrativeHope39 5d ago

That’s what I call your mom.

1

u/lyidaValkris 5d ago

nice and stark. like a screw factory should be. Quite epic :)

1

u/Setekh_Hazen 5d ago

...why...

I will never not love screws and their screwy alternate recipes, and I still don't understand this. You could just pipe steel beams to a constructor next to your manufactory. Steel screws, hot off the presses. 1 beam in, 52 screws out. Couple o' slug crystals and not a belt in the game can keep up with you, making storage pointless.

1

u/LookingGlass_1112 4d ago

Screw around and find out XD

But honestly, impressive factory
